Because I am a blind Cowboy homer and the discussion is about tight ends:

Jason Witten - Hall of Famer?

He's certainly a Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor caliber player.

Wait a minute... Gronk only has about two full healthy seasons under his belt, and has only been in the league since 2010. But you're ready to call him the best TE of his generation, and you're implying that he is future HoF talent.

Yet, Marshawn Lynch has only missed 6-7 games total due to injury during a stint in the league that's over 7 years and counting, and has only missed one game to injury since coming to Seattle, while performing at an elite level with a a more punishing style than Gronk plays with... and he's not HoF material?

I would assume so. You can't put Gates in the Hof and not put Witten in.

Gronk has been a game changing TE that has almost freakishly changed the position along with Jimmy Graham.

Marshawn Lynch is a very good power back...that statistically hasn't done anything incredibly elite outside of his 1 year of 5.0 average.

You are wrong about Gronk changing position. He is a mix of new school and old school. Graham is going to be the one that is changing the position. Because he is a straight up WR that has the measurables of a TE. Whereas Gronk can catch the ball but he is also a great blocker. Which people need to understand. Graham is just a WR with TE listed as his position. Don't forget he tried to get himself changed from a TE to WR when he got franchised.

But yea Gronk is an elite TE and right now there are not any other TE's, IMO, that are better all-around TEs than Gronk. And he seems to be liked by the media. But I posed a question earlier about Gates and Gonzalez and neither have a ring and they are both locks. And IMO if Gronk stays healthy as has some good QB play, which it seems like he will, he probably will have at a minimum have stats that are comparable to Gates and Gonzalez. But the only that Lynch seems to have going in his favor is the 1 SB ring. As I stated earlier, he has stats that are comparable to Brian Westbrook, Eddie George, and Clinton Portis and none of them are being talked about as HoFers just because they don't have the ring, which isn't a knock on just them they all played on some good teams but they also played on bad teams.

Since he's about to retire, how about Patrick Willis? Did his career go long enough for him to get in?

...Too close to call, IMO. I would lean towards probably not in, because he didn't play long enough...but he was a force every year of his career.

I was just going to ask this. It's debatable, he was a 5 time all-pro and 7 time pro bowler.
