I could probably throw 5 Vince Carter dunks ahead of this one to be honest

I concur. I was trying to think of a tactful way to say that. I'd actually likely prefer much more than five Carter dunks to this DeAndre slam.

Not too many people in the NBA would be willing to do something like that

That's not the same as "He did the only thing he could do in that situation to even have" which is what I was responding to... and pre-warned that my response was being technical. It ended up being the wrong play BECAUSE he made the dunk, but (like the post I quoted) I like that he tried anyway. I also agree with the other poster that most good defenders have been posterized. Gotta try even if you're wrong sometimes.

I agree with you guys 100%. Never give up a free dunk. I get what wwharton is saying about being 'extra-technical', although that's basically like saying if Brandon Knight could look into the future and know DJ was gonna make that dunk, he should've steered clear...

Anyway, it will be a sad day when guys are running out of the way of potential monster dunks because they don't wanna get posterized. Never give up that freebie.

Re: Where does Deandre Jordan's dunk rank all time?

The kids they showed in that TNT highlight could definetly say it was the best dunk of all time, because they were still in their dad's sack when Vince Carter was Man/Amazing. Whatever.

In the greater scheme, it's just blown up because it's LA. It's Lob City. It's Clippers. I'd think the dunk was significant if it was on Tyson Chandler or some great shot blocker who was about DeAndre's size, sure. But that? Please.

A solid 7 out of 10. Great, but not so amazing. Hell, most of the attention is directed at Brandon Knight than anyone else. Though that seems standard dunked on fare.

Guys run out of the way all the time, lol!

If I were to be more serious about my previous comment though, jumping was the problem with Knight's decision. I'm not one for undercutting people but considering where Jordan jumped from, I would've tried to plant outside of the "charge" area and held my ground. Psychologically it would've been harder for Jordan to be comfortable with trying to dunk from that range... realistically he probably woud've ended up undercut. Again, that's being very technical though. As someone said earlier, I think Knight jumped before really realizing Jordan was in position to try to dunk. At that point he was already in the air and didn't have much of a choice in how to respond.

Not even close to number 1.

Not even number 1 this season. I'll take Barnes over Pekovic to Jordan over a tiny Brandon Knight that happened to get in the way.

Nice dunk though, but small guys over big guys >>> the other way around.

Some off the top of my head:

Jordan baseline on Ewing
KJ over Akeem
Wade on Varejo
Wade on Perkins
Blake Griffin on Perkins
BG on Gasol
Starks baseline drive against Chicago
Vince Carter over Alonzo Mourning
Pippen's dunk on Ewing
The Kemp dunk when he starts pointing at the dude on the ground
Vince Carter jumping over dude in the Olympics
Vince Carter jumping over Tim Duncan
Wilkins dunking over Bird
Kobe on Yao

There are probably some other dunks out there but when you put Jordan's dunk up against some of the best... its up there. The power of the dunk makes it special.
Whoa I remember that Wade/Varejao dunk.. I gotta YouTube that. I remember Varejao had his feelings hurt hahah he tried retaliated the next play or time down haha

In that sense, it would've made more sense to get out of the way. I'm not mad at him for trying to do something to prevent it, but in this case he should've gotten out of the way bc he had no choice but to foul and couldn't prevent the shot from going in (two things he probably could've assessed before jumping).
Youre clearly saying Knight should have conceded the lob dunk and got out of the way.

Knight did the right thing by trying to break up the play and certainly should not have gotten out of the way.
