This is assuming the Bird rule is being altered this drastically. Which I'm not sure the players will go for.

You or I may not have a problem with it, but the players most likely will.
The players aren't objecting to the amnesty clause. Its seems to be one of the few things they can agree about. The only beef is about how long the payout will be.

The players don't seem to have much of an issue with the Bird rules changes either. All comments I've heard from them have been that they are ok with an incentive to keep players at home. There issue is with the number of guaranteed years that a bird exception player gets.

Adrian Woj's twitter

Talks on a 50-50 BRI split broke down, and labor talks have ended, source tells Y! No new meetings scheduled. Huge setback in this lockout.

Oh dear.......euroleague it is!!!

Joking aside, this news sucks.

Oh look, 50/50 is still not good enough for the players.

Blow up the season, come back next year at 10/90 in favor of the owners... let them play for their contracts and a little else. Let the increase in the owner's portion lead to ticket price cuts as well as memorabilia price cuts... let the struggling economy be able to go and afford to have a good time without breaking the bank.

let it happen.

Re: NBA Lockout and Collective Barganing Agreement Discussion

Watching the NBA press conference now:

- Silver says League offered 50 and players were only willing to go down to 52.5

- Silver says union wants a tit for tat negotiation. If they drop in BRI, they want system to stay the same. League sees BRI and system as completely separate. BRI is to prevent league financial losses. System is for competitive balance.

-No game cancellations today but will meet with Stern and labor committee to discuss canceling games.

So the 49-51 split just isn't enough for the players? For some reason, that extra 2.5-1 split is just SOOOOOOOOOOOO much to give up.
