If they did the trade and don't pick up the team option on Billups then that would make the trade even worse. Then they would end up giving up their starting PG for nothing and not be able to get anything close to him as a replacement. That would just be flat out stupid.

I didn't even look at available PG free agents, but who knows what will be available.

Plus you get all that cap space to either land a replacement PG or a real big man or to throw some money at whomever stays between Gallo and Chandler..

I can't disagree with you simply because of the fact that Melo will sign with NY anyway. So NY shouldn't do a damn thing right now.

Everyone is saying the Knicks should stand pat, yet if Melo goes elsewhere via Free Agency (Lebron to Miami anyone) then it will be another stupid move by this organization. "They blew their chance."

Hindsight is always 20/20.

If you can land him, do it. Don't just assume he's walking into the garden next year. But at the same time, don't take that deal.

I just don't see it, honestly.

But I do agree with you, in terms of the deal not being that bad for NY. It's really not that horrible IMO.

It'd be horrible because Melo will go there for free.

Didnt the Garnett trade come AFTER Ray Allen was moved to Boston?

Stuff like that in Off Season Free Agency can change things.

I don't trust it. And I'm pointing this out - I'm contradicting everything I've said until this point.

I don't want to end up like Cleveland did - making plans only to have the guy do something completely out of the blue.

Honestly... the only people who really believed LBJ was going to Miami were psycho Miami fans... and that was all just a wish. Just like NY fans, and just like Chicago fans.

Melo won't put on a decision special (LOL) but I'd rather lock him up now if you can do it, even if it meant giving up a Fields/Gallo/Chandler.

I don't get rid of Felton only because Billups is too injury prone and I'm sure Stat would be unhappy. He's gelled with Felton and their both team leaders.

Thing is, the Melo thing is a completely different animal than the Boston Big Three ordeal.

You take a look around at what other teams have to offer and what Melo "wants"... there is no other team but NY.

If there was another possible team, Melo would have been traded by now because Melo would have agreed to sign an extension. He wants NY and nobody else.

He wants NY now. I just cant think that his team are throwing ALL their cards at NYC. ANYTHING can happen after the season is over.
