NFL 2k COMEBACK? License not exclusive?

I think what people need to realize is that it isn't just about the money paid for the license. It's about brand recognition and getting it into the homes of as many people as possible. EA did not make the highest bid for the exclusive rights for NFL gaming, Disney did. However, the NFL felt that EA would be better suited to get the shield into more homes and that it had a more recognizable brand in the video game market than Disney did.

EA knows exactly how their fans feel about their game. I've often said that EA would spend their last cent if need be on retaining exclusive rights to the NFL. Their executives know that their product is sub par in comparison to what was up and coming in 2004. They even admitted this in the official court documents of the lawsuit. However, they also realized that they could eliminate competition, and madden would still sell based on its legacy and brand recognition. They were right.

Madden is going to be the same game it has been for the last 10 years. The longer this exclusivity carries on, the less chance there will be for a competing game. EA is targeting the younger generation. If you think they are not smart enough to realize that the younger gamers don't know any better (i.e, having not had the opportunity to play any of the other better football games of the past), then you are just fooling yourself. The marketing team at EA knows EXACTLY what they are doing.

My prediction, unfortunately, is that we will NEVER see another game in our lifetime, and that Madden will just continue its snail's pace of "improvements" while the other major sports continue to zoom past it just like they do now.

What might be fun is to have a large group here on OS package up MLB the Show and send it to all of the Tiburon developers as a gift stating - "this is how a REAL career mode can work". LOL.

All kidding aside, it is what it is. No one should be heart broken. If you really expected this to happen, then you were only setting yourself up. It was interesting news, and it was certainly exciting to think about the possibility, but there isn't anything you can do about it. The show must go on.

Man I'm sorry you are going through this. This thread is open, and dag nabit there may or May not be an nfl2k game coming out, and because you know one isn't this thread is just tweaking your Mellon something fierce. Yup looks like EAs exclusive license has been extended like they said. The word exclusive must have been avoided because many see it as negative. Oh well.
