I always thought it was better to mow in opposite directions each time you mowed. One week I'll mow up and down and the next I'll mow side to side.

That is correct. I mow left/right one week, then up/down the second week, then diagonal left one week then diagonal right the next week. Then start the process again.

I do. Wish my small yard wasn't mostly weeds, but I don't want to spend the money or go through the hassle of fighting that battle. So I put in the earbuds and make the best of what I have. While golf course grass is cool and very satisfying to look over when you're done, weeding, trimming/edging, and keeping up with the landscaping is all part of it too.

But what I really love is shoveling snow. I can't really explain it, but I love it.

I am this way also. Small yard but with cost of treatment and water just too much for me to spend on grass when there is snow on the ground for 6-7 months.

also like shovelling snow for some reason, not the real wet heavy stuff though. Kind of reminds me when I was a kid and had to shovel off the rink after a snowfall.

I enjoy summer and warm weather but also like those cold winter nights outdoors when everything is quiet and still.

How's it better? I've been mowing mine the exact same way forever. Like OCD similar every time lol.

I watch a lot of lawn blogs (yes crazy I know) and they all say to vary your mowing pattern. I couldn't recall why though just now so I went to look and here is what I found...

From Scotts web site:

"Mow in a different direction every time you mow. By varying the mowing pattern, you help avoid compacting soil. Plus, grass will stand up nice and tall since it typically leans in the direction you mow."
