During an earnings call today, Ubisoft revealed that Assassin's Creed III will be released in October.

According to CEO Yves Guillemot, the game will hit stores on October 30th. Guillemot revealed that the game has been in development for three years and that "what we have seen is just fabulous."

Previously, Ubisoft teased that a major Assassin's Creed title would come this year, but this is the first outright confirmation that it's AC III. The game is said to complete the story of Desmond.

While no platforms have been announced, recent Assassin's Creed games have hit Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The game is likely headed to Wii U as well, since an Assassin's Creed game was announced for Nintendo's new system during E3.

The next Assassin's Creed is set to feature a new protagonist and switch setting to the American Revolution, a source close to the project has told CVG.

The exciting switch to the 18th century conflict will mark the series' 'biggest instalment yet', according to Ubisoft, and our insider indicates the game will be publicly showcased before the end of the company's fiscal year on March 31. The American setting was first hinted in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood's 'Da Vinci Disappearance' DLC, which drip-fed players a set of coordinates leading to New York state, USA.

Another hint featured in the ending of latest series entry, Revelations, when a futuristic globe hovered over the US (pictured).

Perhaps the biggest indication though came late last year, when a Ubisoft survey asked fans where they'd like to see Assassin's Creed go next. The options included, "The confrontation between British colonists and native Americans during The American Revolution."

The setting of course opens up all kinds of historical crossover possibilities for the series, including encounters with George Washington, who according to Assassin's Creed lore is in possession of an Apple of Eden.

HAIL CTHULHU YES! Looking forward to it. Especially with that long of a dev cycle. That means they were working on it when 2 actually first dropped.

Exactly why I bolded that so people didn't skip over it and be all "It's gonna be crap cause they're pumping it out too fast."

It's a very little explored setting as far as gaming goes and I'm excited to see what Ubi does with it. One reservation I have about it is the rise of gunpowder and guns. I don't want my AC experience to turn into some kind of third person shooter.

I have the same worries. Gun shots still didn't kill you unless it was close range though in those times. Maybe they will focus on forcing you to use more stealth.

Re: Assassin's Creed III

I'm still troubled more with who is heading up the game, Revelations was just a mess compared to all the other entries that were headed up by Patrice Desilets. Those issues were completely unrelated to dev cycle.

I don't know how to take this, but I am actually excited about it. That wasn't meant to be facetious or anything. It's an interesting and, as you said, unexplored time period for gaming.

I'm am also worried about that as well. I want AC to always be about to fluent dagger/sword/etc. game play, not cannons and long rifles.

Re: Assassin's Creed III

Oh hell yes. This time period was exactly what I was hoping for. So, is this the "end" of the series?
