Classic and Historic Team Hub (post your teams here, learn how to make teams, etc.)

This thread is a hub for classic and historic teams made with Teambuilder. Here you can:

•find teams
•post teams you've made
•find tips and resources for making teams
•post any tips or resources you may know about

If you post a team be sure to include your gametag/ID.

Tips

A simple way to edit ratings is to choose a team template (under the "Roster" tab, near the top) that closely matches the team you are trying to make before you do any editing. That way the team will have many of the ratings already done, and you will only need to edit a portion of the key categories, to shape and mold the team into the one you are trying to make.

If you happen to know what type of player a player was, pay attention to the "Player Type" as you edit a player's skills, located underneath the player name (for Power Back, Speed Back, etc.). A player's real life height and weight can give you an idea of what type of player they were.

If you know who the best players on the team were, but don't know what type of player they were specifically, just increase/decrease each key category bit by bit... Paying close attention to the overall rating.

The most important thing about making these classic teams is keeping the amount of 90+ guys at a minimum. This ensures stars stand out over the other players. (thanks to tommycoa for this tip)

A good way to come up with overall player ratings is to look at All-American Teams, All-Conference Teams, and the NFL draft, and then rate them using this rough guide:

5 star player
All-American, early NFL draft pick
94-99 overall rating

4 star player
All-Conference, drafted into NFL
86-93 overall rating

3 star player
Quality starter, undrafted NFL free agent
80-85 overall rating

2 star player
Starter
74-79 overall rating

1 star player
Back up
Less than 74 overall rating

After you create the players choose a playbook for your team. If you don't know what type of offense or defense the team ran then choose based on the era they played and/or the personnel on the team.

There are also three other team options:

Run/Pass - The higher the number the more pass plays will be called.
Playcall Aggressiveness - The higher the number the more aggressive the playcalling.
Substitutions - The higher the number the more frequent the substitutions.

Resources and Websites

http://www.google.com/
You can use google to go to each school's official site, and on the site there should be a section titled something like "History" or "Records" which will have some good information. You can also use google to find fan sites, a lot of which have good information.

http://www.fanbase.com/NCAA-D-I-FBS
A good site for full rosters, including player names, height, weight, and numbers. You can also determine the player's year, by clicking on each player's name to see when they played for that school.

http://cfreference.net/cfr/cfr.s
College Football Reference is a good site where you can find information on teams, things like: rosters, NFL draft positions, and award winners.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page
At wikipedia you can find some good information on specific teams, particularly National Championship teams.

http://www.youtube.com/
Sometimes you can find game footage on players and teams, which can help you with: uniforms, a team's style of play, and individual players.

http://www.google.com/imghp
You can use google image search to find pictures of uniforms from a specific year, by searching for a specific player on the team.

TheGamingTailgate.com's NCAA Football 11 Playbooks Spreadsheet (WIP)
A spreadsheet you can use to find a suitable playbook for the team you've made.

Re: Classic and Historic Team Hub (post your teams here, learn how to make teams, etc

RATING OFFENSIVE LINEMAN/DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
1.GENERAL KNOWLEGDE
I first take the All-American's and rate them fairly high (95-99). 95 for the guys who were good college players but not so much in the NFL. For guys like Dwight Freeney, Julius Peppers, Orlando Pace types I rate them 99. But not 99 across the board. Since extremely popular players are easy to get info on I jyst to a little research. The key thing is to not rate them 99 in every category. This takes away form the uniqueness of the player.
2. GAME FOOTAGE/EVALUATION
I have alot of old games on vhs. I go back watch the game and see how the offensive/defensive line plays as a group. This helps alot with the guys you can't really research. Plus, you kind of sort of get to be a scout. For instance, Alabama in the 90's under Gene Stallings were horrible pass blockers. So I just keep there pass blocking rating very low. The highest guy will have numbers in the mid 80's. The lowest, high 70's. As for defensive lineman. I look at the personality of the defense. Were they run stoppers. Pass rushers. Balanced. How many sacks and pressures did they get as a whole. If high with sacks I raise speed, block shedding, finesse move and pursuit and keep strength and power moves at a minimum. If they are run stoppers, I raise stength and power moves.

Just a foot note: The most important thing about making these classic teams is keeping the amount of 90+ guys at a minimum. This ensures stars like Bo Jackson, Tim Tebow, Shaun Alexander, Danny Weurful, and Peyton Manning stand out over the other players.

1983 AUBURN TIGERS
OFFENSE
1. Bo Jackson TB
2. Lionel Jackson TB
3. Tommy Agee FB
4. Brent Fullwood TB
5. Randy Cambell QB

DEFENSE
1. Greg Carr
2. Donnie Humphrey
3. Tommy Powell
Considered by many as the greatest team in the history of the school. Finishing the season 11-1 with a 9-7 Sugar Bowl win over Michigan. They were lead by the 3 headed wishbone backfield of Bo Jackson, Lionel James, and Tommy Agee. Brent Fullwood was also a runningback. All 4 of these guys played in the NFL. The defense was lead by Greg Carr, Donnie Humprhrey, and Tommy Powell. Al del Greco was the kicker. If you want to run the wishbone with the greatest running back (hard to say but true being an Alabama fan) to ever play the game and play in your face old school defense pick 1983 Auburn.

Re: Classic and Historic Team Hub (post your teams here, learn how to make teams, etc

1996 Tennesse Volunteers
Offense:
1. Peyton Manning QB
2. Jay Graham TB
3. Joey Kent WR
4. Marcus Nash WR
5. Peeless Price WR
6. Chad Clifton LT

DEFENSE
1. Al Wilson
2. Leonard Little
3. Jonathan Brown
4. Terry Fair

The 96 Vols didn't live up to the lofty expectation they were supposed to but are still a fun team to play with. They may have let Peyton throw the ball a little to much. Solid across the board on offense and defense. Spread the ball with Peyton Manning by throwing to 4 solid recievers in Joey Kent (school's all time leading reciever) Pearless Price (an absolute speed burner), Marcus Nash (great possession) and Jermaine Copelane (great athlete). When your not chunking the pigskin around the field, feel free to hand the ball over to Jay Graham. One of UT's most over looked running backs. His quick first step can create alot of space.

On defensive, pass rush the hell out of the quarterback with DE's Jonathan Brown and Leonard Little. And let Al Wilson patrol the outside perimeter at linebacker. Tori Noel is also a playmaking safety.

1996 Auburn Tigers 8-4

OFFENSE
1. Dameyune Craig QB
2. Fred Beasley-TB/FB
3.Victor Riley LT
4. Robert Baker WR
5. Jeno James RT

Defense
1. Leonardo Carson DE
2. Takeo Spikes LB
3. Jimmy Brumbaugh DT
4. Marcellus Mostella LB
5. Martavious Houston S

Slice through defenses with dual threat QB Dameyune Craig and a slew of talented recievers. But the challenge for this club is running the football. Lack of a consistent running game spoiled what could have been a special season for the Tigers.
Create great pressure and pursuit with a solid front 7 on defense but pray you get to the QB because the secondary for this team is very spotty with the exeption of Martavious Houston. Takeo Spikes is a ball hawking linebacker as well. Sit back and watch a takling machine.
