Re: The 2012 New York Knicks: The Filler Year?

Allow me to rant;

I look at other front office's and how they build their teams, then I look at the Knicks and I get so frustrated and ticked off. We have three max players who don't fit and one of them is on the downside of his career with no trade value. And we have a meddling idiot for an owner. So how will the Knicks get the pieces necessary to become championship caliber(like in the 90s) and beat Miami? What do I have to look forward to?

Make me feel optimistic, guys.

Beating Miami is going to be tough for quite a few years, no doubt. They could very well be what the Bulls were to the 90's Knicks team. We can't worry about them for right now - the focus should be on beating out Boston. Winning the division, getting homecourt in the 1st round and winning one, maybe even two playoff series before you think about facing LeBron is the key, just like it was in the 90's with Jordan. Hell, let's win just one playoff series before we even think about championship.

The owner didn't interfere with Grunwald this season. And I liked the moves he made. So far Isiah Thomas is nowhere to be found, so thank god for that.

If we can stay healthy and add some outside shooting(nash?), with a full training camp under a legit coach(Woodson). Who knows what we can do.

We still haven't seen what this team is fully capable of. Amare and Melo both missed significant time this year. So did Lin. Because of the injuries and the lockout, I don't think Amare and Melo have even played a full season's worth of games together yet. And much less than that with Chandler.

I'm looking forward to training camp with everyone healthy except Shumpert, a coach who can coach defense, and hopefully one more significant piece still to come.

We are way behind Miami. But with Boston most likely breaking things up, and Rose hurt, the rest of the conference is wide open. Win the division, get homecourt, experience some playoff success should be the goal. And after that, you never know.

We have the DPOY. A promising young PG. The best 3 point shooter in the league.

Carmelo needs to see how well-rounded LeBron has expanded his game. Playing defense every possession. Sharing the ball. Rebounding.

And most importantly...being a leader. The leader.

The days of gunning for 30 points should be over. He has to lead the team.

Hopefully a no nonsense coach like Woodson can get him to see the big picture.

Something else that might make you feel better. Vegas has the early odds at 12-1 for a Knick championship next season....5th best. Cheer up...this arbitration victory is the best win in June the Knicks have had in a decade

As bigeastbumrush said, a full training camp should go a long way.The hearing going our way definitely is a good thing. Now the tricky part begins for grunwald.

Do we use the Full MLE (5 mil) & become restricted for this season due to hitting the Tax. Apron Threshold or use the Mini MLE (3 mil) & keep our flexibility for the season.

Also JR has until Tuesday to inform the Knicks if he's gonna opt In/Out.

Hopefully JR opt's-In keeping the good news going

As wild as JR is, I'd love him back. I still think the Knicks bench with Smith and Novak is better than the shooters Miami has. Knicks probably do need a reliable big man off the bench too.
