All tjose scripted animations that "play out" in which the user has no control over look pretty, but hamper actual gameplay. I still am learning all the controls on both sides of the ball, but so far this game is SMOOTH.

I cannot understand all the negativity for EA adding realistic physics and bringing back user control. I like the direction the team is heading.
You are ignoring the time where you were caught in a reach animation as the dribbler went by you. Or failed to shoot after a defender made you stumble. Or when you got your ankles broken. Real stuff that you DONT have control over. Don't try to overstate the control mantra. It's actually not helping the game frankly.

Re: NBA Elite 11 Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (PS3, 360)

I finally got to try the demo last night (PS3). It was frustrating at first and learning the controls for me took awhile. I found it very challenging and really want to learn the controls even more. It was funny looking at some of the movements like i had Gasol open near the basket, tried to dunk it but he did a floating leaner which looked awkward. This was due to user error and unfamiliarity with controls. I really liked that there were no players getting stucked and uncontrollable in situations like in Live 10. In Live 10 if you're running for fastbreak on turbo and a defender is in front, chances are you'd loose the ball 95% of the time, you'd get stucked on that canned animation and loose the ball. It was hard to score at first but once you do, you have that feeling of accomplishment because i missed a ton prior to that. I was able to hit shots with consistency (tip: do not push the right stick all the way, i just move it up slightly (feather) and release, i think i got a lot more made shots this way). However, i don't see the player spacing that was really great in Live 10. Hoping to spend more time with it and learn some of the plays. I think the game has potential and overall really excited to play it again later tonight.

I just wished they could've have kept Live 10's graphics which looked way better than Elite.

With being off today and giving the demo another go round I just can't stomach it. Probably did not help that I tried the comp's demo right after. Just so much is missing.

One thing that probably would have helped if the demo had an instant replay so I could go back and look over a couple of things. There were several plays that made me go WOW but there were more that made me say WTF???

If EA sticks to a plan and quit swapping ideas from one year to the next like I've done Next-Gen systems then they might be on to something but the reality is this game is "AT LEAST" 2 years away from being anything close to what the real game of ball is. For thoe that have played the game we know what Ballin is and sorry but this is not Ballin.

Thanks to some of the guys who braved the butchering that some of us have given and to have them come stand by there product "KUDOS" Steph, reAnimator, and some others.

I don't think I will pick this up but who knows. Chances are I will have a chance to get it early but I can guarantee that I won't pay a cent over retail to get it. Peace!!!

I don't know a single person who's played both demos and found Elite's control to be superior, just considering my group of serious basketball gaming friends, one scheme just works far better for basketball games than the other.

Spending an entire development cycle on this control scheme is a huge head scratcher to me. Especially while you have areas that have been broken for years still broken.

Based on the outcome, you play a success/fail/call a foul animation.

In Elite, the player hand is an actual object. If the hand touches the ball, another object being tracked, it pops loose and RTP take over. There is no animation based on the dice roll. If this same hand hits the other players body or hand, a foul should be called.

This was my understanding of it.
Mine as well.

And I think I remember seeing ratings effect how good a player can track the ball. The Ball tracking is actually pretty cool had this nice block with KG. So ratings are tied in with the control.

I actually had one of the "scrubs" of the Celtics bench, (cant remember the name, white dude, think he's a rookie) come in at the end of the game as I was getting beat down pretty bad. Once I tried to steal the ball with him (artest was dribbling the clock out) it seemed as if he didn't even know where the ball was.

If this was ratings based or a glitch. IDK, but I'm planning on experimenting more later today.

Of course everyone should be more focused of gameplay, but you have to expect more from EA, especially when they market themselves like this. I think graphics and player movement should be better than this.

Re: NBA Elite 11 Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (PS3, 360)

Has anyone tried the "alternate" or Live control settings instead of the Elite control settings?

I was really struggling with the new control mechanism because it just doesn't seem to translate/function as well in a 5v5 game as it does in the practice gym in single player mode.

I went back to the old Live 10 controls, changed the camers to Broadcast and I'm liking this demo much more.

However my main gripe now is that my controlled player goes into "post mode" for no reason and it's happening quite often. For example if I'm using Kobe and I dribble around my defender (Ray Allen in this case) and have an open path to the basket.....instead of attacking the rim, Kobe turns his back to the basket and does a post up move.

This also happens during a iso situation where the ball-handler is sucked into a post-up move automatically and not by user choice.

rEAnimator, am I doing something wrong here control-wise or is this a bug in the demo?

Also can others confirm if this is occuring with you as well (Alternate controls only, NOT default/Elite). Thanks.
