Uhm, yes?

He's 38% from 16-23ft... So yeah, that sounds about right.

Sample size is not taken into account with these ratings, it's ridiculous.

How the hell does Pooh Jeter have a 94 mid range rating? Was he 7/8 on the season or something?

With mid range ratings like these I could just run this scrub off screens all game and drop 30 with him on mid range jumpers exclusively.

I guess the one thing missing from these shooting ratings is common sense.

Josh Smith mid 80 3pt 78
Joe Johnson mid 75 3pt 75

Re: NBA 2K12 Player Ratings Revealed, Including All Free Agents

I see a lot things that just keep getting repeated over and over in this thread.

"'Our overall rating formulas are position specific, weighting attributes that are more relevant for that type of player. For example, passing and speed are weighted more for point guards, where rebounding and shot blocking are factored heavily for centers.
Nowitzki was judged as a power forward, which is both his position on the court and an insufficient explanation of his role for the Mavs. While power forwards like Griffin, Pau Gasol(notes) and Zach Randolph(notes) play an interior game, Dirk prefers to play outside the paint and is arguably more of a tall shooting guard on offense than a classic four. As such, his post scoring may rank rather low, which would explain a relatively poor overall ranking. That said, if you play as Dirk you'll probably find that his style and game are approximated pretty well. Formulas don't always produce accurate results, especially when players as unorthodox as Nowitzki are involved.
On the other hand, there is something rather bizarre about Dirk's low rating when Bryant ranks so highly. Again, Kobe is a great player, but all advanced metrics and most expert eyewitness accounts suggest that he's on the downslope of his career. General public perception is clearly a factor here, so no one could blame 2K Sports for boosting Dirk's ratings a bit -- or at least rejiggering their formula -- to help his placement among the NBA elite. 2011 has been Dirk's year and he deserves some attention for it."

Not only that but the league average from 16-23 ft is 39.5%, so he's actually below average.....

And again mid is a base stat. It is affected by several other ratings that boost or diminish your success rate.

Aslong as the players play like they would in real life, I do not care what 2K rates them. Kobe Bryant is rated 94 overall and you are worried about the 78 Mid Range shot? In earlier months of NBA 2K11, before Travis Outlaw degressed - I was able to hit mid range buckets with him consistently, and he sure as hell did not have a 90 mid range shot rating. Kobe Bryant who has 78 mid range and probably 99 consistently, I do not see him missing either.

Many use 2ks default ratings as a excuse to go against people who use stats for attributes calculations ... then again, who says they do ? ... hehe ... at least not going with the examples beeing thrown out here, none of them make sense at all from an statistic perspective ... Ibaka & Zbo one is blasphemy, with the exception being the Kobe example, that partially does.

Again, as soon as we let our biased eyes (or anyone eyes) lead attribute ratings assigments, the results will be as bad (if not worse) than those of the 2kinsider.

Sadly, we cannot account for things this game doesnt have the means to.

is it just me or does the whole shot consistancy arguement sounds very very illogical...sounds backwards 2 me. I know its there for hot streaks and slumps and what not, but something just seems off to me. i mean how can a player have a 90+ mid range shot and a 50% consistancy...how is it possible to get a rating that high w/o being consistant? shouldnt the 2 go hand n hand? why not just lower his mid range shot? 4tr, its not that i dont get it, im just saying it seems like someone tried to be clever and out-thought themselves.

really glad to see some of the post bringing to light that stats cannot reflect everything, esp as more and more time passes from the actual exp.

2k should find 1 of the community members that ppl trust their ratings work and add them to the pay roll, because aside from the actual player ratings, the player tendencies are usually really questionable as well. so the same way they bring in a community member like 'Czar to give imput on gameplay and whatever else other ways he contributes, they should bring in some1 from the community to do all the player and coaching ratings.

to me, its like why put so much effort into getting all the little details right, only to have questionable player and coaching ratings....this really is such an easy fix; just hire a community professional to do the ratings from now on. very few ppl co-sign the work of the 2k Insider anyway.

With that I agree ... not necessarily as a employee but maybe as an advisor.
