Re: NBA 2K Rating Stock Watch!

The numbers guy typically ain't the "hot take" guy. I think most know where I fall on that spectrum.

Evaluating OVRs (Player Value) isn't just about flashy numbers, it's also evaluating player roles. There is plenty to gleaned off one game. If anything the first game of the year is the most telling.

(Thanks for watching)

I agree. You can tell a lot and very telling in 1 game especially with young guys in rotation, how they fit or play in system, or improvement in the off season. Look at Nwora or Duarte as examples. I said this in another thread it will be interesting to see the Pacers rotations When healthy. Duarte is ready now. Hard to keep him off the court. Sacramento and maybe going away from Bagley, etc. Haven’t watched the video yet but will give it a go…

My disagreements:
I think Jordan Nwora is way too low at 73. He's not really a 3pt specialist as much as he is an offensive threat, shot creator, or 3-level scorer. I think his mid-range is too low here. He's a threat from mid-range.

You have to look into the nuance of what James Harden was doing. He focused on building that chemistry with Nic Claxton as his pick n roll big partner. He knows that building up that kid will make his life much easier in game 40 and 50 of this year. He definitely made conscious decisions to give him chances to receive the ball in moments when James could have scored.

I'm WAY down on Joe Harris. He needs to be moved. Especially with Patty Mills slinging hot fire. He folded in game 7 when it mattered and we need someone like Miles Turner on our team (big who can shoot, rebound, and defend). I want that trade to happen like yesterday.

While this is funny, NBA teams draft & sign players based off of smaller sample sizes than 1 NBA game every year.

Also there was an entire pre-season and summer league to help inform these game 1 opinions.

ALSO (lol) if we couldn't have hot takes rookies wouldn't get ratings until halfway through the season.

Gonna have to agree with Jeebs here.

Let's look at some of last year's opening day standouts:

- Terry Rozier went 10-16 from 3pt for 42 points.

- Domantas Sabonis went 32 points 13 reb and 5 ast.. he's not the Joker, but his stats would say he is. He's good, but not THAT good last season.

- Larry Nance Jr. was 13, 8, and 8!

- RJ Barret 26, 8, and 5 and went perfect from three. That was a mirage last year.

- Even Bam Adebayo was crushing it in the first few weeks of the season before coming down to earth.

Let's see if Nwora and Chris Duarte ACTUALLY do this stuff all year long. I would err on the side of caution and say no. Solid players maybe, but it was just one game.

All that said, I like the stock watch as long as it's not drastically changing ratings and is used more dramatically on the tendencies.
