NBA 2K24: Skilled based Passing

Hi Community,

I got a general question for this community to wonder what would you think about having 2K invest putting the skilled based passing into future 2K games that we can truly replicate passing you see in the NBA into the future version of 2K series. Examples I’m using is from Madden 23 skilled based passing? Not sure how to do the polling system here but just curious on what your thoughts?

Only if it is like shooting where the ratings affect the pass accuracy. I don’t want to see non passing bigs out there like Jokic. However, I agree that it would be a great addition with that caveat.

Do we already have it?

lots of different passing options (icon, touch, lob, bounce, oop, lead) and isn't the skill in using them?

Right now i think the only skill involved in passing is making the right pass in the right situation. But in terms of pass accuracy and placement, there's no mechanic currently that allows that. Would be cool to see.

yea passing is like 'throw the ball to the other team' or not basically. If you throw the exact right pass, it will get thru even if the other guy tips it. Been doing it for years. No passing, no problem.



Seems like they are making it matter more in terms of who is around and what your rating is, but yeah, there is no skill other than seeing what develops and pressing a button at the right time. I dunno why we don't have icon passing that also has choices of bounce, lob, etc. It's got that "throw it into his knees" option on lock tho.


That would be the first step: just making that possible would make the game so much crazier. Could get the ball anywhere. You already can, but it would be stupid. I don't trust non-icon passing online at all.



The second step I think would be making passing an interactive thing where the ball was somewhat live along with the players and the receiver would have to 'receive it' as well. That would stop being able to lead people into ridiculous cuts/curls that kind of break the game design. That's WAY more complex than you might think, to build a sort of passer, target system where you'd like control where the ball was thrown (as best you could) and the power and the receiver would have to receive it in a similar way.


Think we're years away, but I've been asking for it.

Something is needed for more errant passes so we can have more non steal turnovers.

You’re second statement is what I was thinking but I know 2K will need time to truly implement these steps as most developers are rush to complete a task within the short window for the next addition of the series. But it would be good to see if they improve the passing.

I want lower pass ratings to be what causes the bobbled catches that we see. I feel like they happen way too often off of normal passes.
