This does not work and is not a definitive fix or any kind of fix. The grass is always going to look washed out. You can pump your color if you want to but it isn't suddenly going to make poorly shaded and colored grass look like reality. That is an inherent engine characteristic of the game and your TV is not going to change it. Coding is what will change it. Many of us know exactly what we are doing with our sets, have calibrated sets, and have done the same thing you are doing to make the picture look better. And it doesn't work much at all.

If you exacerbate contrast and color settings for one part of the game other parts start to look off. And the whole color scheme and lighting in this game is not realistic for grass and dirt. With advancements in other Sony studios people are expecting more when it comes to grass, dirt, lighting, and overall realism.

And this is not because we do not have HDR, or we have poorly tuned sets. The game seems like it is just entering into the HD world. In a year or two it should look much better and more cohesive. They just ditched the PS3 this year so it may take some time. But we hope it improves drastically in the next few years.

Last year I played the season with the Sox and was disappointed that there was no difference in the sound regarding what part of the Green Monster the ball hit. Perhaps I played with the Sox one year too soon?
The sound of a baseball whapping sheet metal sound..It's a beautiful sound and loud..

Just like Matt can now tell when a ball landed on Sheffield Avenue in Wrigley, the game has knowledge of exactly what surface the ball is striking on the Green Monster, and yes - theoretically could make a more metallic sound when striking the lower half of the board. Matt might even be able to say it hit off the scoreboard.
I'm definitely certain the tagging is there to note that Matt will say one versus the other.

As far as the sound difference, I'm hopeful they even at least put in the same sound that you when it's hit off of the foul pole (assuming they don't have another sound for it in place yet, that would be the closest substitute I suppose).

If that's the case, I really wish they would get some more ball-off-bat sounds. I think they have like four: one for a normal hit, bunt, foul tip, and broken bat hit. I'm not certain because I haven't played in a while, but at least from the videos I can't also seem to differentiate hits that are long home runs, jam jobs, cued off the end of the bat, or even contact from a check swing.

Our GameStop Mondays trailer on presentation had a swing at the very end of the video with a different hit sound effect, and I don't know if I liked it more or not, but I did note how different it sounded. Unfortunately, I think it was only used for the trailer, and wasn't necessarily a sound recapture. Listen to the Turner home run at 1:52 to hear what I'm talking about (not the one at 1:49, which also sounds different but then again we thankfully don't have slow-mo contact sounds in replay anymore).

Do I want that exact sound? Not necessarily. Am I looking for a different sound for hits soon enough? Probably. If not, at least differentiating those different hit types that I mentioned above.

I absolutely love the MLB Network presentation, although I was hoping it would be a fourth option and not a replacement for one of the three from last year.

They're doing what they can with what they have and the people that are there.

That's all I ask, and thank you very much. This game has actively gotten massively better (literally night and day) between MLB 15 and MLB 17. I don't get why they are so honor-bound by the style guide being wrong, but it's been explained multiple times that the style guide is the law. Whatever the jerseys look like in the 'real world' means absolutely nothing to the work of SSDS. The style guide is what matters. You've got to get your head in that space. It took me awhile too.

But they are trying, and that's what I ask.

It's literally -- a whole new ballgame.
Such a good post

Re: MLB The Show 17 Twitch Stream - Presentation & Commentary

My top 3 announcers: Tom Hamelton, John Sterling, Jon Miller. Thorne right behind them. I base it on excitement, entertainment, and voice. Notice how I put my teams voice second, I love John Sterling, but Tom is a bit better in terms of excitement on every play. Love the new commentary!! I think tagging will make a world of difference in terms of emersion.

Last year they introduced stories into the commentary. Now that the other 2 dudes are gone, I'm wondering if that advancement is a one and done project. Or will they do like most companies re-introduce it as a feature down the line.
