Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread

This is more of a general question rather than a specific what package should I put together. In the MLB does the ability to sign and trade exist? If the Red Sox and White Sox agreed upon a deal fro Chris Sale could the Red Sox then be given the ability to renegotiate a longer contract with him. I know the NBA does this quite often but I didn't know if the MLB had any rules against this

This wouldn't really be a "sign and trade." It'd be more like "trade and extend" and yes the Red Sox would be able to do that.

We just had a Soler for Doolittle deal, and the Jays don't really have a Soler, so its probably a package of prospects and some of the better ones. Not Alford or anything, but maybe Harold Ramirez and Rowdy Tellez.

I don't think it would take much at all to get Soria so thats probably about ballpark value. AC knows a lot more about the Jays than I do, but getting upper half closers is expensive so Doolittle or Viz will cost a just outside the top 100 prospect in my opinion.

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread

Hey guys looking to get your thoughts on something. Just want to know if you guys would consider this cheating or playing a player at a position he used to play. In my Jays franchise I was wondering if I switched Donaldson to play catcher when martin starts to inevitably age then play Donaldson there until he retires a Jays catcher. I would move Tulo to third as an aging shortstop the same season and get a young shortstop in to play or a stop gap player at short until my young short is ready to play. Let me know if you guys think this is to far or within the realm of possibilities. My thinking is Donaldson started out as a catcher whatever he has for a block rating is what I would stick with when I switch i wouldnt edit that. I also know often that older shortstops get moved to third and Tulo would provide plus defense at third at that point and still provide some decent average and pop. Thanks for taking the time to read this guys. Looking forward to hearing your opinions.

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread

Guys switch from catcher to other positions almost exclusively. I can't remember a scenario of a guy becoming established at another position then switching to catcher full time. I wouldn't do it personally especially not with a Gold Glove level infielder.

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread

Interested in making an offseason trade as the Yankees for INF/OF Chris Ownings and either LHP Robbie Ray or LHP Patrick Corbin. Their stats are as follows:

Owings = .205/.275/.325 with 2 HR, 10 RBI, 6 SB for a .029 WAR as the back-up middle infielder and center fielder.

Ray = 9-10, 3.99 ERA, 9.71 K/9, 3.12 BB/9 over 207.2 IP for a 4.2 WAR as the number two starter behind Grienke.

Corbin = 9-11, 3.99 ERA, 8.78 K/9m, 2.9 BB/9 over 191.2 IP for a 3.42 WAR as the number three starter behind Grienke and Ray.

The Diamondbacks finished twenty games under .500, and over twenty games out of their division and the wild card. I'm interested in what it would take to get a package of Owings + Ray/Corbin to bolster my team. I consider both Ray and Corbin to be projects of sorts, with Owings I would have be my back-up middle infielder with occasional starts in the outfield to protect Didi against lefties and be insurance against Refsnyder turning into a pumpkin (I let Castro go on waivers). Love to hear your thoughts!

What are you willing to give up? Owings isn't that valuable but I have to imagine the D-Backs hold both Corbin and Ray in high regard and would want something substantial and not fringey coming back.

Re: MLB 16 Trade Discussion Thread

I think that a trade for owings given his number especially cost you very little. where you will be giving up the better prospects would be for corbin or ray. I think Ray costs more hes a year younger has more potential and better stats and isnt an FA until 2021. If I was going to pick a parrallel to this deal IRL it would be the trade that SF made for matt moore which they gave up Duffy, Fox, and santos. That deal was a deadline deal and usually teams overpay at the deadline but given how many years Ray has under RNW or ARB and that your getting a young mlb ready controllable arm with upside you would have to send a package like that
