The cross-zone fastball. ie a RHP throwing an inside fastball to a LHB. I always judge it as a pitch that will end up off of the plate.

Yes! I do the same thing.

Re: What gives you the most trouble?

The more I play this game the more I realize how well it simulates real-life batting. I used to get so mad at the game because I would strike out but then I started to pay attention to how I was striking out. It was alway my fault. The game simulates batting so well. A pitcher will work you away, throw balls in the dirt, and then bust you in with a high fastball. They change your eye level, everything. I love facing a pitcher with a poor curve. There's nothing better than blasting a hanging curve about 450 feet. But man, when you face an ace, its a different story. I was batting I believe against Dan Haren and his curveball was sick. Very tight. Hard to hit.

Re: What gives you the most trouble?

It's not even specific pitches, it's just specific locations.

Like when I see a pitch coming and it looks like it's gonna hit a bad zone for my batter, I lay off it and then it suddenly ends up in my players hot zone, or the other way around.

Change up is the hardest for me to lay-off but the slider is probably the hardest for me to hit especially when it slices through the plate.

Re: What gives you the most trouble?

Its an enjoyable challenge on H.O.F. but it is much more frustrating than it was on All-Star. Pretty much all of my hitters have had their avgs drop a solid 20pts since the move (I'm now probably 35-40 gms into H.O.F. difficulty - I am just getting to the end of July now)

My biggest problems now are strike zone discipline (especially up), FB/CU recognition (effecting my timing), dealing with the movement and change of speed on the breaking ball, and being "just off".

It's funny because when I first switched to H.O.F. I was still in a groove, but the past dozen games or so I haven't been able to find a consistently comfortable place. Like an earlier post said, they change pitch speeds, eye levels, in and out, to paraphrase Kevin Butler "It's just like being there".

Re: What gives you the most trouble?

I learned (for the most part) to finally lay off:

The high 4 seamer that tails up and out of the zone

The change over the plate that drops out of the zone

I am a sucker for:

The 58 foot curve

Low slider that straight up makes me look the fool

I often find myself apologising to the hitter I made look silly with that low slider based punch out...

"It's not your fault, dude...that one's on me" kinda thing...

Re: What gives you the most trouble?

The hardest for me is the changeup because I usually recognize it up I let it come in for a strike out most of the time. I also hate batting against pitchers with low 90's fastball because I get so desperate when I see that fastball coming and I usually get early swings. Any type of curve is tough also especially the 12-6 curve.
