Re: Madden NFL 15 Gameplay Video - Seattle Seahawks vs. San Francisco 49ers (Smitty)

Wow factor... What is the wow factor in a sports game? To me, the WOW factor comes into play when I see something that resembles real life so closely that you can't believe that they included it in the game. I'll give a couple of examples of things that wowed me in the past. Years ago, I was playing a football game online against a friend. I called a screen play and I was trying to wait to throw it. I scrambled and managed to get the screen off. My HB caught the pass and I followed my brigade of lineman to the end zone for a 60 yard TD. Or so I thought... While I was running, I saw flags hit the field (yes, flags actually hit the field). Ineligible receiver downfield! Both of us had to pause and talk about how cool that was for at least 10 minutes.

Instance number 2. Playing the same friend online, I drop back to pass and complete a 20 yard seam pass to my TE. First down - but again, flags everywhere. I had kept my halfback in to block, but what I noticed was that while my left tackle was engaged with the RDE, my HB went and took out the legs of the DE. Chop Block! My reaction? "Are you kidding me?!!! That's in the game??? That's awesome!!".

Instance 3: Playing a friend online. Pass is thrown deep down the left sideline. My corner is trailing in good position but while the ball is in the air, he pulls up grabs his hamstring, stumbles, limps and goes to the ground. TD! My corner pulled his hamstring on the play!

Now - do any of these things sound like ground breaking occurrences when it comes to the game of football? Are any of these things something that were invented by the World of Warcraft development team? They create the WOW factor because they are elements that I see happen in REAL LIFE. When I see my corner drop back into a zone, never even touch the receiver as he goes through my zone, then stand flat footed covering an empty patch of grass, the game has already lost me and my interest. When my middle linebacker drops back into the back of the end zone when the ball is inside the 10 and he lets the TE run WIDE OPEN in front of me without even an attempt at coverage in the zone the game has already lost me. When my linebacker blitzes and instead of running through the gap he's supposed to, he takes a direct path into a blocker, the game has already lost me. All of these things are still happening in Madden in 2014, yet all 3 of the instances of the items I mentioned above are completely absent from the game. Couple that with the fact that Tiburon is telling me that this is the most authentic, smartest and best playing Madden ever, how can anyone take this game seriously?

Players are interacting in the huddle, putting arm around each other, talking to each other, hand guesstures, etc.. Little things but it's the little things that people have been wanting to see for years, the way they fixed wind direction, and the way wind affects kicking and passing this year is another example. QB inaccuracies will probably be the biggest game changer IMO. I think that will completely change the way people select their teams, especially in CFM.
About the pre/post play stuff it's better but it's nothing to cheer about, much like the halftime show. I guess some people set the bar for the new Madden based on the previous year's one but I set that bar based on the sports genre as a whole, mainly focusing on other football games. Going by that standard, those minimal real time presentation additions, while better late than never, are years behind and woefully lacking. C'mon man, look how long other sports games have been FULLY doing real time presentation instead of cut scenes, now Madden finally gets some incremental element of this in the 2nd edition of a new console generation but as usual, doesn't flesh it out beyond a handful of areas, yet it's supposed to be some big stride.

I'm all for giving proper credit where credit is due and the proper credit is the real time elements are good to see but need way more fleshing out, which shouldn't take years to complete.

I'm not going bother doing much of this in regard to Madden because, really, what's the point but this post, not JP, grinded my gears, lol.

I wonder how many people know that a football game from 2004 on the original Xbox, allowed you to set custom soundtracks and stadium sounds, meaning you could have whatever you want play over the PA, at certain times. I swear sometimes it seems that Tiburon is doing some kind of social experiment with Madden and gamers, collecting data on how people interact with a technologically inferior product, in a limited market.

True step for everyone on the field would of made madden a brad new experience as well as DB/WR interactions. You got a corner on the cover but yet he he won't be equipped with what makes him great in real life in this game. With that being said no game is gonna give you everything in one year it's sorta like when you see a new car model every year they only add one or two new things to the body style. It's like picking up the new galaxy phone or iPhone every year when they increase the speed and upgrade the camera, like I said before it's how they keep ppl coming back it's the way of the world.
I'm sure you didn't mean any harm by this but you certainly caused some to my blood pressure, lol. I don't think any of us have a problem with a company milking every dollar they can out of old tech before releasing their next advancement, like you stated, other companies do it all the time. The issue is that unlike a product like the IPhone or Galaxy, which are fundamentally complete products with room for expansion and though not offering the most advancement possible, are still the best to date the consumer has experienced, no year's Madden is ever fundamentally complete anymore nor is it the best to date in all facets.

Re: Madden NFL 15 Gameplay Video - Seattle Seahawks vs. San Francisco 49ers (Smitty)

I made this video when madden 13 1st came out before they messed with the infinity engine. For some reason the gang tackling or tackling interaction looks better to me.

They keep dumbing down the infinity engine every year, last year they added more animation base tackling within the infinity engine and this year they added suction back. I believe that's why victor lugo left because the we're killing his vision and his work.

The suction this year is killing the tackling you can see as soon as the CPU calculation deems the play to be over base on animation used every defender on the field stops engaging even tho the play is not over and you get the skip, hop out of the way animation like the old days. It just irritated me so much back when Rex Dickson in the press row podcast said that they needed suction tackling to make the tackling easier in the game.

I see they still haven't slowed down the amount of time it takes to get back to the line if you are running no huddle

That is a WOW factor I guess, lol. An NFL team getting back to the line and everyone lined up in under 5 seconds.

Wow, just reading this gave me goose bumps!!!.......I remember a football game years ago that me and my friends were playing also that we couldnt even finish a game because we kept stopping to instant replay or just being wowed by what has happen....Damn, I miss those days. Okay, now to stop daydreaming and back to reality....the problem is that as someone mentioned before is that next gen football will NEVER be different until that stop making for ps3 and xbox360... That is where the most profit is made....Why spend extra money to reinvent a whole game where profit margins is the most important thing...one thing that will tell it all is when the game comes out, look at the box and see how much HDD memory was used...For example, 2k14 was at 50gb which I think was the max, the show was at 47gb and madden 25 was at 16gb if i remember. That tells you that the game was not made for next gen

Re: Madden NFL 15 Gameplay Video - Seattle Seahawks vs. San Francisco 49ers (Smitty)

This game series is not focusing on what it needs to focus on. No questions asked. This is just a general thread, it has nothing to do with gameplay footage, it's just something I've noticed. Ever since i really started thinking about what EA was doing with Madden I realized it's wrong as hell. Penalties are a damn good example. They messed up penalties on purpose becaus ethey want the game to be "fun". How is it fun to march down the field with no penalties? It doesn't make any sense logically.

This is the main problem. The players don't mess up individually unless user controlled. They are just robots who never make mistakes. How the hell is this football?

Finally, there is no strategy in this game. Rock em Sock Em robots is more complicated than this series. Where are the formations, the schemes? They are all oversimplifed. Who needs schemes when Slants works all day? When QB sneaks march down the field with impunity like Mike Vick on Ritalin.
