Veteran striker Francesco Tavano started 2016 where he left off 2015 - scoring goals. The 36-year-old had a brace in Avellino's first match of January, a 2-0 win at Vicenza. Tavano added another goal from the penalty spot late in the Wolves' stunning 3-0 triumph over Roma in the TIM Cup Round of 16, and finally he bagged a goal to earn Gheorghe Hagi's side a 1-1 draw with Novara. In total, Tavano has found the back of the net 14 times in Serie B action and 2 times in the TIM Cup.
Manager's Thoughts I cannot believe how well we did in the TIM Cup as we dismantled two Serie A sides with a 3-0 stunner over Roma at the Stadio Olimpico and a 4-0 drubbing of relegation battlers Hellas Verona. Now we move into the Semifinals where we have a very winnable opponent in Genoa. As for the league, we only conceded 1 goal in January, during a 1-1 draw versus Novara, but I was real disappointed in the 0-0 result against Latina. I think our players are just mentally drained at this point in the season, but we have to stay strong and fight through it.
February 2016 - Fixtures 2/3 - vs Genoa*
2/6 - at Pro Vercelli
2/13 - vs Livorno
2/20 - at Perugia
2/27 - vs Cesena
*TIM Cup Semifinals - Leg 1
February gets us started with the first of 2 Legs in the TIM Cup Semifinals against Genoa. We will definitely be looking to leave with an advantage from our home ground before making the return trip there in March. In the league, our biggest match is on the 20th at Perugia, who are the only side to hand us a loss this season, when they won 2-0 on our ground. Getting revenge in that game is something our players will be hungry to achieve. The other matches should be wins as well.
FA Cup - Round 1 Luton Town 1 - 0 Portsmouth LUT: Mpanzu 86'
An exciting and extremely close match between two of the top teams in League 2 was finally decided in the closing minutes of the match. It looked like the match would be going to a replay but Mpanzu came in from the bench and gave his teammates the ticket to the next round after cutting in from the left and taking a shot to the keeper's far post.
Overall the match was box to box and very exciting, with Portsmouth successfully neutralizing Luton's star man Pigott. The target striker was marked by the big centre back Burgess who refused to let the striker out of his sight. Burgess was well aware of Pigott's strength and aerial ability so remained close to him; any time you turned to look at Pigott on the field Burgess was always just a couple steps away. Portsmouth played a heck of a game, but in the end Mpanzu's late goal had them knocked out of the FA Cup's early stages.
J. Paint Trophy - Round 3 Bradford City 3 - 2 Luton Town (B-Team) LUT: McQuoid 14' 54' BRC: Evans 58' Clarke 81' 90' LUT: Hall RED CARD 19'
In the beginning it looked like the B-Team would finally be coming back from last month's 3-1 defeat against Notts County, but Bradford staged a bigger comeback themselves and turned a 2-0 scoreline into 3-2 in the final minutes. Northern Ireland international Josh McQuoid opened the scoreline in just the 13th minute with a header but was followed by a stupid slide tackle from Hall in the 19th minute that earned the wide man a red card. Hall has been in struggling form lately, and after he lost the ball near the box he made a stupid slide tackle from behind which was too aggressive in the referee's eyes. Luton Town readjusted, and continued to dominate Bradford City nonetheless. McQuoid completed a brace in the second half to better reflect Luton's dominance, but just four minutes later Bradford's Smith shortened the distance. Luton continued to play well until the Irishman Clarke entered the game late in the second half. Clarke equalized the match with a spectacular long shot into the bottom corner, and in the final minute of the match he scored with a shot to King's near post to give Bradford the now inevitable win. Luton Town's B-Team had played well but playing with a man less certainly affected them stamina-wise in the long run, but much of the blame is being put on the 18 year old King by supporters, who did very little to stop any of the 3 goals just like in the Notts match.
Luton Town 4 - 0 Mansfield Town LUT: Pigott 8' 85' Marriott 14' Benning OG 61'
After a devastating elimination from the J. Paint Trophy the Luton first team came in and showed that they mean business in the league by dominating Mansfield Town. Joe Pigott opened the scoreline in the 8th minute and just six minutes later Jack Marriott widened the lead. The Irish midfielder McGeehan placed a perfect through ball into the box for Marriott to face the keeper one on one and despite the keeper rushing him the young striker kept his head cool and and he slotted the ball into the bottom corner with an easy and calm shot. The keeper was expecting Marriott to power it to his far post but was outwitted by the young striker turned winger.
Benning scored an own goal in the 61st minute to really take his team's morale down, and in the 85th minute Pigott completed his brace and finished off a Mansfield Town that never seemed up to par with Luton tonight.
Luton Town 3 - 0 Plymouth Argyle LUT: Pigott 16' Lee 77' Marriott 90'
Initially we were expecting a difficult match for Luton as they were up against one of the top League 2 sides and it's a side that plays with a line of 5 in defense. Joe Pigott showed us that it doesn't matter if he is marked by two centre backs or three, he still found a way to beat all three off the ball and score the first goal of the night with a wonderfully placed volley into the bottom corner!
The rest of the match was rather close, until Olly Lee scored the second goal with a strong header in the 77th minute. Lee was making his return from injury tonight as substitute and what a way to make a comeback. Plymouth tried to go all out in attack looking for an equalizer, but they left themselves vulnerable to Marriott's counter attacking speed who netted the 3rd goal in the final minute of the match.
Luton Town (B-Team) 0 - 0 Accrington
No goals between Luton Town and Keano's Accrington Stanley who are currently fighting in the bottom half of the table. Despite the huge gap between these two sides on the league table, Accrington played an amazing match both defending well and creating danger up front with an inspired Terry Gornell who was actively involved in virtually every Accrington attack. Even though there were no goals it was still an exciting game, which will definitely motivate Accrington to make a push up the league table. The positive side of this match was seeing Mackail-Smith enter the field in the second half making a return from his injury. Unfortunately the Scotsman was unable to make an impact on the game, but his return will definitely bring the B-Team's morale up after a difficult month.
Luton Town 0 - 0 Portsmouth LUT: O'Donnell RED CARD 89'
A rematch of this month's FA Cup round 1 and this match was just as tight as the cup fixture. This time there was no late goal that was able to separate the two sides and both teams ended up sharing points. Mackail-Smith also made an appearance late in the match and played up front with Pigott in an attempt to search for a late winner, but again was unable to make an impact.

Luton Town Player of The Month GK - Elliott Justham (England) (55 OVR 24yrs) (+5)
Without a doubt, the best player of this month has been the English goalkeeper Justham. When the season started, we identified Luton's keepers as the weakest part of the squad but this month Justham has proven that even when his defensive line makes mistakes he is more than capable of guarding the net. Whether it's long shots, like Luton always force the opposition to take, or close range shots due to defensive errors, Justham was able to resolve every play and did not receive a single goal this month. We were anticipating Chavez to search for a replacement goalkeeper in the upcoming transfer window but Justham has effectively locked down the starting position through great performances and a strong work ethic in training.
Conclusion
Getting eliminated from the J. Paint Trophy so early on especially when I had a ****ing 2 goal lead really ticked me off. Took everything I had in me to not rage quit. That's one of the things I love the most about posting updates: It would be impossible for me to rage quit and not feel guilty about it when I come to post. The B-Team started off being really fun to play with and really easy to score with, but ever since Pigott and Marriott were promoted it's been really hard to create any danger up front. McQuoid is fast and he's scoring goals but he'll usually be having a terrible game before he scores. Baxton has actually been impressing me a lot despite his low overall and lack of individual skill. I was planning on placing him on the loan list but I think he'll be staying. Mackail-Smith's return was definitely received well; I just hope he can find his form quickly and be the savior the B-Team needs right now. The upcoming transfer window really has me excited. There's players on my shortlist that I want to make an effort to bring in, and once I finish the transfers I will also be using the money leftover to get youth scouting going. In the meantime we have a Capital One quarter final match against Norwich City coming up. Stay tuned and Thanks For Reading!
Chico, the Newport County manager is Giovanni Marccelino
every time someone beats up on Newport it re-assures me I made a good pick with them for my CM because they really stunk before me. For you I hated seeing Mackail-Smith's injury but it looks like Pigott has really stepped up for you proving you right for picking him over McQuoid. Sounds like you're gonna have a difficult decision to make when your injured striker gets back. 5th place isn't bad considering you're only 3 off the top. Oh, and Marccelino gave up coaching Finland because the international games were making him miss club games
I see what you're doing here. You are accusing me of posting inaccurate information in my update! And you are correct... Lol can't believe I missed his name :/ as for the Finland section, I will justify my error by adding that my career is about 2 years behind yours so you haven't left the job yet! Then again you probably didn't have the job yet to begin with either BUT, I felt it was good to add that on there to at least give the readers some hope since Newport have a good manager in charge because damn that team is struggling! What makes your career so much better is the fact that Newport are pretty much one of the worst teams in League 2 without you. Also, I know you've already made your decision but I agree with the general opinion here: Farfan = realistic and it'll give you room to improve other areas of the squad while Martial = unrealistic but will bring you success. Also unnecessary because you already have a quality goal scorer BUT if you dish out a lot of money you can sort of make it realistic by writing about how Martial was given too good of an offer to refuse and that's why he left United. I also can't believe you sold Thuram but I guess it has opened the door for your signings. Go get your Italian keeper!
Euro League - Group Match 2 SC Braga - Kayserispor (2-4)
Hassan 8' (pen) Türüç 13' (Stojiljković)
Türüç 28' (Stojiljković)
Vukcević 36' Peñaranda 50' (Stojiljković)
Peñaranda 69' (Diego)
Our key players showed up BIG in this road game, Türüç and Peñaranda with the 2 goals a piece and Stojiljković tormenting his former team with 3 assists. Making things better, Tottenham is in a really bad funk and lost to Patrick Thistle so we're off to a really good start in the group. Below is a look at Peñaranda's last goal:
Spoiler
League Match 7 Beşiktaş - Kayserispor (1-1) Peñaranda 14' (Türüç)
Quiñones 27'
This was one of the most exciting 1-1 draws you could ever witness as both teams approached the opposing box early and often for a total of 22 shots (14 on goal), but both goalkeepers were excellent as well.
Spoiler
Peñaranda opens up the scoring in the 14th minute.
League Match 8 Kayserispor - Rizespor (4-1) Ovacıklı 19' (OG)
Stojiljković 28' (pen)
Chevalier 45+' Stojiljković 81' (pen)
Biseswar 90+' (Stojiljković) Peñaranda 2' (Bruised elbow, out 8 days)
It was good news for us all around as we not only dominated Rizespor (their goal was the only shot they got to take all game long) but also avoided a big loss with Peñaranda's injury after he had to come out of the game inside of 10 minutes.
Euro League - Group Match 3 Kayserispor - Patrick Thistle (0-1)
Lindsay 21'
I got cute, decided to play my B-squad for the first time all season and paid for it as the Scottish club took advantage of an early lead to tie us up in the points total in the group standings. Tom Černŭ played out of his mind, finishing as the Man of the Match with a 9.1 rating.
League Match 9 Fenerbahçe - Kayserispor (0-1) Biseswar 40' (Stojiljković) Stojiljković 8' Çağlayan 81' (Sprained ankle, out 4 weeks)
Any time we can go to Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium and get a victory is a huge deal for us. This time around we did it with a clean sheet (which is always impressive against a club of Fenerbahçe's caliber) by frustrating them offensively as they were only able to put 3 of their 11 shots on target. Çağlayan's injury was the only bad news coming out of this game.

Review: Outside of missing a golden opportunity to take a commanding lead in our Euro League group after one round of games, I must say we're doing really well in both competitions so far. We've bounced back from a poor start to the season in the league and are now in the mix for the top spots on the table. Peñaranda continues to be in great form and even though Stojiljković isn't scoring at the same pace his contributions with assists have been big for us. Of last note, we had a competition at GK early on but newcomer Anthony Maisonnial quickly sealed his spot as the starter. After realizing Maisonnial's form isn't likely to drop any time soon, Abdelaziz Demircan has let me know he wants to be transferred. I'll probably list him during the upcoming transfer window while I look for a suitable replacement.
As far as the academy is concerned we have received the second reports from our scouts in Algeria, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia so let's check out how our youth squad has changed:
CB - Emre Karaer (64 OVR, 81-87 POT): 16-year old from Turkey who is Physically Strong and displays excellent aggression (84) to the ball. We're excited about his development and in no rush to promote him until we feel he's ready. RW - Shafiq Al Shahrani (50 OVR, 72-92)*: 16-year old from Algeria with an attacking mindset. We're hoping for development in his pace (71acc/69spd). LB - Mahmoud Al Farsi (49 OVR, 71-94)*: 16-year old from Saudi Arabia who's Physically Strong and shows good aggression. Depending on how he continues to grow he might be more of a CB prospect. CM - Serdar Emir (52 OVR, 70-94)*: 16-year old from Turkey described as a Playmaker and showing good agility (74). This is an early evaluation. LW - Dragen Rennich (61 OVR, 77-83): This prospect from Croatia just turned 17 years old, growing 7 inches to 5'8" and adding 13 pounds to his frame to top out at 152lbs. He has good acceleration (79) and balance (75). LW - Javier Fernandez (57 OVR, 77-83): 17-year old from Venezuela with good pace (79 acceleration, 70 speed) that will hopefully continue to grow. Good competition for Niarkhos and Rennich in the academy. RW - Pavel upan (57 OVR, 76-82): 17-year old from Serbia with good acceleration (73) and agility (73). He projects as more of a role player in the future. CAM - Hamzah Al Dalharni (45 OVR, 68-88): 17-year old from Algeria who's very raw but offers enticing potential. We'll have more details on him as we evaluate him further. LW - Dragutin Puhovski (51 OVR, 71-77): 16-year old from Serbia with good pace (74 speed, 71 acceleration) and balance (72). He's a bit behind in the picking order at this position in the academy at the moment but hopefully he can catch up quickly. RB - Fabian Lopez (58 OVR, 73-79): 17-year old from Venezuela who needs a lot of development. Doesn't possess the desired pace for the position at this point in time but hopefully he'll develop that. We don't expect him to grow taller than his current 5'11" frame so a move inside won't be an option for him.
* Recent addition
As I mentioned in the previous update I'm currently very interested in international friendlies with the Venezuelan NT to work out some kinks after a very poor showing in the WC. It'll be worth it for you to check this out ...
International Friendlies
Venezuela - Ecuador (2-1) Del Valle 34' (Martinez)
Cazares 41' Del Valle 43' (Juanpi)
I was happy about being able to avenge our loss to Ecuador last month putting together another really good performance offensive (16 shots, 7 on goal). I'd still like to have more to show for on a performance like this but I'll take it.
This one was a real DANDY, especially for a friendly. It's always a good tune-up when you get to play Brazil in one of these and we jumped to a lead just three minutes in courtesy of Otero but just a couple of minutes later Jonathan evened it up for the Brazil, who would go on to possess the ball a bit more than us (54%). Despite this, we didn't let them create clear scoring opportunities so it wasn't until the 80th minute that they broke through to take the lead and before everyone and their momma could think that would be all this game wrote, Otero did this
November's Schedule:

** At the club on loan
Georgiy Tigiev suffered a Torn Calf Muscle in training and the initial assessment from the medical department is that he will be out for about 8 weeks. Diego will step into the starting lineup in the meantime.
League Match 10 Kayserispor - Antalyaspor (2-1)
Etame 24' Peñaranda 52' (Sow)
Ponce 89' (Biseswar)
Ezequiel Ponce picked a great time to re-unite with the back of the net to help us get a hard-earned victory against an inspired opponent.
Euro League - Group Match 4 Kayserispor - SC Braga (2-0) Peñaranda 20' (Stojiljković)
Peñaranda 41' (Stojiljković) Diego 86'
Nikola Stojiljković served a pair of assists towards Adalberto Peñaranda twice in the first half to once again lead the push against his former team. The Portuguese club simply never created much of a threat.
League Match 11 Kasimpaşa - Kayserispor (1-2)
Ndiaye 34' Gümüş 45+' (Stojiljković)
Stojiljković 84' (Biseswar)
Late goals for the win never get old and we did it in back-to-back league games so we're feeling really good about ourselves. Stojiljković capped a really good two-game stretch having a hand in all four goals scored.
League Match 12 Sivasspor - Kayserispor (2-2) Çağlayan 23' (Peñaranda)
Kurtuluş 29' Peñaranda 69' (pen)
Kaş 80'
The first installment of this rivalry game this season ended in a draw after we once again were played very tough by a bottom-dwelling team. We lost possession (44%) and each team fired 7 shots (4 on target for us, 5 for Sivasspor).
Euro League - Group Match 4 Kayserispor - Tottenham (2-2)
Dembélé 18'
Alli 64' Peñaranda 67' (pen)
Peñaranda 83' (Türüç)
This was a big game for us. Losing meant going down to second place in the group and going into the last game of the group stage not having clinched a spot into the next round. Instead we keep a good grip on 1st place AND clinch a spot into the Round of 32. We stayed patient and took the Spurs' best shot and were able to respond led by Peñaranda who is having a hell of a first half of the season.

Review: We went undefeated, clinched a spot into the next round of the Euro League with a good grasp on 1st place in the group, and maintained our position in the league standings. It doesn't get much better than that. These seasons are a grind and especially with a roster such as ours (with limited depth) so it's good to see continue to do well during the grind. There's added value to it that we had such a good month despite Tigiev's loss because although Diego has the same rating he doesn't have the same impact that Tigiev has, although I have to give credit to the Brazilian fullback for performing a lot better this time around than earlier in the season. Upfront I continue to really enjoy how Peñaranda and Stojiljković compliment each other, I especially enjoy the Serbian's game who doesn't need to score to make his presence felt in every game (and I'm not just talking about the assists). He's arguably our most consistent player each time out and should Mabiala be moved he'd be next in line for the captain's armband.
In academy news, we received the final reports from our scouts in Algeria, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia and we made several additions to our youth squad.
CB - Emre Karaer (65 OVR, 81-87 POT): 16-year old from Turkey who is Physically Strong and displays excellent aggression (84) to the ball. We're excited about his development and in no rush to promote him until we feel he's ready. ST - Imtiyaz Ismail (51 OVR, 79-94)*: 15-year old from Algeria who our scouts project as one of the best striker prospects to ever be groomed by the club. What he lacks in technique (due to his age) he compliments with killer pace (79/74 acc/spd) for such a young player to go along with very good curve (74) on his shots. Cemal Al-Jurr (38 OVR, 76-94)*: 17-year old from Algeria whom we scouted for several months. While he's extremely raw at the moment our scout remained convinced he has very good potential so we signed him as a long-term project. LB - Mahmoud Al Farsi (50 OVR, 72-92): 16-year old from Saudi Arabia who's Physically Strong and shows good aggression. Depending on how he continues to grow he might be more of a CB prospect. CM - Serdar Emir (53 OVR, 72-92): 16-year old from Turkey described as a Playmaker and showing good agility (75). We continue to evaluate where he fits best in a dimaond midfield. CM - Uygar Mert Köse (51 OVR, 73-91)*: 15-year old from Turkey described as Technically Gifted and who is very agile (79). Shows a lot of promise at an early age. RW - Shafiq Al Shahrani (50 OVR, 72-90): 16-year old from Algeria with an attacking mindset. We're hoping for development in his pace (71acc/69spd). CAM - Hamzah Al Dalharni (47 OVR, 74-90): 17-year old from Algeria who's very raw but offers enticing potential. We'll have more details on him as we evaluate him further. LW - Dragen Rennich (62 OVR, 77-83): This prospect from Croatia just turned 17 years old, growing 7 inches to 5'8" and adding 13 pounds to his frame to top out at 152lbs. He has good acceleration (79) and balance (75). LW - Javier Fernandez (58 OVR, 77-83): 17-year old from Venezuela with good pace (79 acceleration, 70 speed) that will hopefully continue to grow. Good competition for Niarkhos and Rennich in the academy. RW - Pavel upan (57 OVR, 76-82): 17-year old from Serbia with good acceleration (73) and agility (73). He projects as more of a role player in the future. LW - Dragutin Puhovski (52 OVR, 71-77): 16-year old from Serbia with good pace (74 speed, 71 acceleration) and balance (72). He's a bit behind in the picking order at this position in the academy at the moment but hopefully he can catch up quickly. RB - Fabian Lopez (59 OVR, 73-79): 17-year old from Venezuela who needs a lot of development. Doesn't possess the desired pace for the position at this point in time but hopefully he'll develop that. We don't expect him to grow taller than his current 5'11" frame so a move inside won't be an option for him.

As I continue to work with the team looking forward to a Copa America in the upcoming summer, for these two games I filled the roster with players that are usually on the bubble or below it to get a better look at it. One player in particular made the most of this opportunity
International Friendlies
New Zealand - Venezuela (0-1) Falcon 63'
With a whole new set of players I expected a bit of a struggle but the squad actually performed fairly well, holding the Kiwis to just 5 shots (none on target) while we had 5 of our 8 shots on target. Luckily for us Juan Manuel Falcon was able to have a moment of brilliance in the 63rd minute to give us the victory, displaying his outstanding shot power to give us the victory.
We nearly repeated our performance from Oceania, again creating a good number of opportunities (10 shots, 6 on goal) while limiting the home offense to just 3 shots and breaking the deadlock in the 80th minute when a cross from Dorados academy-product Silvio Navarrete found Falcon for a header that should had given us the victory. But in stoppage time Bolivia's only shot on goal would get past our keeper to end the game in a draw.
Falcon was easily the best player for La Vinotinto for reasons far beyond his scoring and I will find a way to include him in on the roster for the next games with the main squad.
December/January Schedule 12/3: vs Akhisarspor
12/8: at Başakşehir
12/13: at Partick Thistle (Euro League)
12/16: vs Osmanlıspor
12/23: at Gaziantepspor
12/30th: vs Trabzonspor
1/6: at Rizespor
1/26: vs Beşiktaş JK
