Probably one of my biggest gripes for all EA sports games.
The CPU always seems to play like a group of all-stars regardless of who they're controlling.
Not really BUT it could be due to a lot of factors: the short demo time skewing their mentality, team tactics not set up since it's a Gamescom build, etc...

This is still an issue sadly but some of the player instructions and tendencies are a little better than last year it seems, we'll see in the retail version if it is improved.

My demo impressions after playing on PC, 10min and 15min halves with modded database, World Class Difficulty, Slow Speed, Manual-Semi Controls:

+ Cpu AI is drastically improved. Changing sides, long passing, holding on the ball and looking for the best pass, backpassing and less dribbling.
+ Players have weight. The ball also.
+ Shooting is a joy because of what I wrote just above.
+ Cpu teammates are improved both in D and offense. Their runs are smarter. As a result triangles are a joy to perform and open new offensive possibilities and attack variety.
+ GK animations are top notch.
+ Animations are great.
+ Fouls. It's sad though to list a football rule as a positive for a football videogame.
+ Legacy defending controls. They work way better than Tactical because your cpu teammates can pressure to WIN the ball and not just standing and looking the ball handler. It's football not volleyball.
+ Women's gameplay is the best football recreation in videogaming after WE9 LE.
+ Player instructions seem to work. Needs more testing.

- Some GK wrong passes (Should be perfectly fine in full version)
- Still team individuality lacks even though there's more variety. I have posted about this in the PES thread a month ago with a solution that's right now in the sphere of utopia.
- Men's gameplay is not as good as women's. I'm quite sure EA doesn't want the game to be a hardcore simulation so it's more possible they'll ruin the women's gameplay too with patches...
- Professional difficulty is very easy (at least for me).
- Some "old" habits of cpu dribbling are still there.
- Too many shots hit the woodwork even on manual shooting.
- Tactical defending is a big joke. I don't want to take control of all my 10 players to steal the ball. Have you guys at EA ever heard of off ball D and area/zonal coverage? Also I don't really care about online excuses regarding this matter. Patch the game so we can use a button to call the cpu teammate to GO FOR THE BALL and not just contain like a waterpolo player.

That's all for now. The game has big potential. Still EA needs to focus a bit more on offline users. We're equal consumers/customers, many of us have families and we don't want to spend our precious free time playing ping pong online with randoms.
Also EA take the women's pace/gameplay and apply it to the men's. Do you know how it's done? Simple: Copy-Paste

Yeah I think we need to reserve judgement on this.

While I agree that changing tactics and instructions should see noticeable change, the players still have the mindset of it being 4 minute halves and "friendly" matches so--nothing to play for.

I would assume that this goes into the coding? I think we'll be able to get a much better representation on how "fixed" the custom tactics are when we can play league games and longer games.

Itīs not, there was never a FIFA where the team tactics were different from the demo to the retail version, so im pretty sure this one isnīt going to be any different.

While the gameplay is different, for better in my opinion, from last year, the problems with the CPU controlled teams remain untouched.

They play ping-pong football, they pass mindlessly around the opponent box without any sense of urgency to score, except when you are winning at the 85th minute, then, they switch the tactic to offensive and start trying to score (in most cases, you canīt stop them from doing it to...).

Sliders can alleviate a bit this problem, but if experience countīs for something they never solve this problem despite everyoneīs best efforts.

Increase FB positioning to 60, and that mindless passing doesn't happen because the FB is moving up in attack.

Regardless, it's better than PES 15 with their approach of even more mindless passing around the back. Compared to FIFA 15, we'll gladly take the extreme of build up versus 'dribble, dribble, pass'. It's a solid start, but like Royce said up there, we have to reserve judgement. Experience definitely counts for something in that regard.

Yeah you're probably right when it comes to changing tactics. Both games suffer big-time from a lack of attention to details in tactics.

Like Krebstar said earlier, a lot of the differentiation comes from individual player traits that are missing for the lesser leagues. IMO, it's the 2nd biggest reason why games can feel the same (tactics being the 1st). I played Inter the other day on WC and got beaten by 2 shots outside the box. One by Hernanes and this one by Shaqiri:

I wish I would have saved the Hernanes one too.

You can tell a lot love went into creating the women's national teams I wish that same attention was applied to specific club teams as well.
