Has anyone made a football game recently other than EA besides Backbreaker? It seems like they're walking a thin line with this. It just comes across as a giant loophole. The licensing agreement is in fact to prevent competition, not to gain extra privileges.

And I don't want to hear the BS about how they're competing with other non-sports, non-football games.

That's like saying the NFL on Fox's main competitor is QVC Jewlery Bonanza rather than CBS, NBC or ESPN's coverage of the NFL.

I understand EA pays the NCAA for this agreement, I'm curious as to when it would become detrimental to the NCAA to have an inferior product. When the game doesn't sell, would the NCAA chose not to renew?

Does anyone know when the first exclusive licensing agreement for sports games occurred?

I honestly don't know, but you're 100% right, it's BS. Trust me, lawmakers and league execs don't play or give two dry tugs about videogames, so they probably don't even think about it from any of these standpoints. I'm curious to know if anybody has any more info about this too, because it is definitely hurting the finished* product to have this exclusivity agreement.

I think the exclusive licensing agreements are the root of the problem. I don't remember all of these issues prior to these deals.

Either way, you're right about the freezing thing, i'm not discounting that, but if other things in my life break, i just replace them. You obviously can't replace NCAA with another working NCAA (because it doesn't exist for you) so just replace it with something else entirely. Move on and don't stress about things you can't control.
Actually the analogy did work out fine . It's only purpose was to show that with other hobbies where you need some kind of product to perform the hobby then in many of those cases there is a way to resolve the problem. The actual money is a non issue for the purposes of that analogy. Just to argumentative though, buying a bike and later replacing some piece that is broken isn't necessarily more expensive either. Initial costs are greater at both points, but a decent road bike priced at around $600 will probably last at least 2 years before anything major goes wrong. So you would only need to buy 10 games over that 2 year period to make the hobbies equal which seems fairly realistic. :P

I do agree people don't really need to stress out about this, but I think that is reading too much into what people are saying. Also, any implication that people shouldn't complain about a product they spent a decent amount of money for is wrong imo.

I'll concede that. Look, i don't agree with some people's opinions. Doesn't make me right. It doesn't mean they aren't allowed to express it. To me there's no need to burn calories on this unless the patch doesn't come out at all or worse, comes out and doesn't fix enough. I'm getting laid into pretty hard for saying the complaints are being overblown, and i think i deserve it. That's what having different opinions during a discussion leads to, and until OS makes me king my opinion isn't worth more than anybody else's. Like i said, i'm a blowhard with time on my hands, it just so happens this is my outlet.
