In economics, there should/will be disparity (for a variety of reasons, but that's way off topic). But in College Football, it isn't good for the long term future of the league.

With the disparity, Texas, Oklahoma, and A&M have no reason to bolt. But who's not to say in a couple years Kansas, K-State, Missouri, Tech, or Ok St won't get better offers. It's not hard to beat what those teams are getting as is. Maybe in a few years, the Pac 10 decides it does want to go to 14 and 16. They go for Tech and Kansas, offering them an equal share, which equates to much more than they make in the Big XII (10). Now down to 8 teams, the Big XII probably folds. Or Missouri and/or Kansas gets an invite to the Big XII. The big XII folds.

Also, I don't think it's good for Texas and Oklahoma. With this disparity, they'll continue to dominate the conference, and A&M will be better for the change, but the other 5 teams will fall even farther behind. The conference is already weaker than it was, and a lot of the schools will continue to fall back, and the conference will be weaker. It'll also be one of only 2 BCS conferences without a Conference Title Game. Texas and Oklahoma will have to go undefeated to have any chance at a National Title since they will be in a perceived weaker conference than the Big 10, Pac 10, SEC, and maybe even the ACC long term.

I'd compare it to this.

If a chick is in a crappy relationship with a boyfriend who beats her and cheats on her with other women....

How long until she decides to start looking for another relationship?

The current situation in the Big 12, although their only option right now...I guarantee you every team not named Texas, OU, or A&M will be looking for any and all opportunities to bolt and get a better situation.

Just because they had no other choice now doesn't mean they won't be actively looking for better situations in the future.

This conference is doomed in the long term unless a change is made IMO.

Exactly. Anyone who thinks this arrangement is solid and will last for any significant length of time is crazy. This whole thing started because Mizzou, Nebraska, Colorado, etc. were pissed at the inequity of the revenue sharing... why would the "lower rung" teams in the Big 12 be happy now when the situation has only gotten worse?

Tuberville was just stating the obvious. It's probably fair that he got fined, but that doesn't make his statement any less true.

Because they have no other options

Re: Saving The Big XII...

The only reason Tech was in the running for the PAC was because of Texas and Oklahoma. In this case, Tech should mandate that Tubberville have his mouth stapled shut.

The Big XII will survive because Oklahoma and Texas allow it survive. If these two along with Oklahoma State and Texas A&M follow along with the program, the Big XII will continue on. All they have to do is find two more teams wanting a chance at the BCS, and bingo, a live living conference.

It's not about finiding two teams to fill. It's about finding the right teams. Adding any combination of Boise, BYU, TCU, Houston, etc. is just going to lower they payout to all the teams, including the prized free agents Texas, A&M, and Oklahoma. Then those teams bolt.

I don't see this conference lasting long term. Tech, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and K-State don't have options now, but the moment they do, they'll be gone.

This. Everyone knows this situation is going to repeat in 3-5 seasons.

These teams aren't going to look any better in the future, and these conferences aren't going to be any different. There is also no way that Texas, A&M, or Oklahoma lose out on their large share of the money. They make the big bucks while they control the conference. As much as the small teams may not like it, the Big XII is better than the MAC, WAC, or even the MWC.
