Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2015 is Coming to the PS3 and Vita This Spring

Last week's issue of Famitsu magazine confirmed that Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2015 will appear on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita during the series' regularly scheduled spring release period. The suggested retail price for this year's game has not been revealed, thus pre-orders are not currently open at popular import shops like Play-Asia and NCSX.

Famitsu's article highlighted two of Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2015's new features:

  • 3D face scans will make players and coaches look more authentic. Facial expressions and mouth movements will also appear more lifelike.

  • "Live Seasons" mode will create short challenges based on the real-life results of Nippon Professional Baseball games. Users will be able to replay the key turning points from each day's NPB matchups. Winning challenges will reward stamps that can be redeemed for special items at the in-game shop.

Though it wasn't officially announced, one screenshot (shown above) hints that Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2015 might reinstate a roster limit on foreign-born players. In this image, the nameplate of South Korean cleanup hitter, Lee Dae-ho, has an orange bar going through it, likely indicating that he is a foreigner. This restriction was removed from Pro Yakyuu Spirits several years ago, but it returned in the 2014 edition of Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu, which is Konami's anime-inspired take on Nippon Professional Baseball (better known to Americans as Power Pros).

Another screenshot (pictured above) suggests that Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2015 will record the location of each pitch and display that information during at-bats. Pitch history charts could only be accessed after a game's conclusion in Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2014.

Konami have declined to comment on whether or not Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2015 might appear later this year on PlayStation 4. The company's first sports title for the system, Pro Evolution Soccer 2015, was released globally last November. Nippon Professional Baseball, however, is a much more niche product -- one that lacks the international appeal of soccer -- and as such, draws a predominantly Japanese audience each year. In its homeland, Sony's PlayStation 4 just recently topped one million units sold this past January, so the Japanese install base might not be large enough yet to justify a PlayStation 4 release of Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2015. Keep an eye on Operation Sports' baseball section, as we'll post a news story whenever Konami's PS4 publishing decision goes public.

It's a fantasy, but I still like to think that 2016 was on hiatus and that 2017 will bring us a PS4 version after a year off for development.
very true, i have PYS 2012 still, and would enjoy a game today more, than a game of The Show 2016

PYS 2012 is underrated I think it is a great game but my favorite is still 2010. The only time I play The Show is when I pop in 2012. The last edition they made before they screwed up the game.

The Japanese market is a die hard gaming market, and NPB fans, they are screaming PYS on PS4.....I seen a lot of Japanese playing PP on PS4 sharing and they want PYS too.

Wish i new a Japanese forum on PYS. To get the low down on PYS 2017.

Why do you say that the last edition before they screwed up the game is 2012? What's wrong with the later games?

I have 2011 and 2015 and for some reason I can hit **** on 2015. I played one full season in 2011 , middle ball speed, real batting point, hard minus cpu pitching and not only I had realistic batting stats, the hitting felt great and fair.

In 2015 I'm hitting like 15% with the same settings. I feel like I make good contact but no matter what it's always an infield weak hit or a fly out. I even tried lowering the pitch speed to basic to try, it feels like crap , but it's same thing. Can't hit ****. Hitting doesn't feel fair at all to me.

Should I get 2012 then? I'm can't really enjoy 2015 as it is. Or should I keep 2011? Graphics look like crap compared to 2015 though. Is there any improvement between 2011 and 2012 graphics or gameplay wise?

I think he was saying The Show went to crap after 2012. As for PYS I wouldn't recommend 2012 unless you like low scoring. The real-life NPB switched to a heavier ball (I think the same weight as an MLB ball) so the game nerfed offensive attributes and CPU pitching was tougher. Things came back around as 2013 was regarded as a better version - with 2014 & 2105 being fine versions as well.

PYS 13 had the cutoff bug. Killed the game for me.

what's the cutoff bug?

think i'll buy 2010 and 11 to see the differences from 2012. Heck, i might just buy'em all, 2010-15 and keep as collectors items "if" the series is over..

Great video from Spirits Translation and why this games so amazing...... I love this video.

Same/similar batted ball engine to Power Pros. It's a better way to do it than in The Show IMO. The Show leans heavily on ratings to produce predictable results based on plate coverage. Konami wants you to actually strike the ball and handicaps the player with lesser hitters. It's a fantastic batting system that stresses player input/influence. You make a good swing, you get a good result... take a bad swing and don't expect much.

Cutoff bug? The infielders don't come out to take throws from outfielders. They never patched it either.

PYS is a great series but I would have to say PES 2017 is the best sports game I have played on the PS3.

Pes 2017 isn't even the best pes for me, pes 2013/winning eleven 9 are

Anyways , I'd take PYS over pes any day of the week , and I was born and raised in Spain where soccer is and always will be number 1 sport and we never had baseball

yeah, PES 3 5 are best and PYS 2013, 15 are best IMO.

I think PYS is the best sports game Konami has ever made. PES 3,5 being close second.
