Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2015 is Coming to the PS3 and Vita This Spring

Last week's issue of Famitsu magazine confirmed that Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2015 will appear on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita during the series' regularly scheduled spring release period. The suggested retail price for this year's game has not been revealed, thus pre-orders are not currently open at popular import shops like Play-Asia and NCSX.

Famitsu's article highlighted two of Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2015's new features:

  • 3D face scans will make players and coaches look more authentic. Facial expressions and mouth movements will also appear more lifelike.

  • "Live Seasons" mode will create short challenges based on the real-life results of Nippon Professional Baseball games. Users will be able to replay the key turning points from each day's NPB matchups. Winning challenges will reward stamps that can be redeemed for special items at the in-game shop.

Though it wasn't officially announced, one screenshot (shown above) hints that Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2015 might reinstate a roster limit on foreign-born players. In this image, the nameplate of South Korean cleanup hitter, Lee Dae-ho, has an orange bar going through it, likely indicating that he is a foreigner. This restriction was removed from Pro Yakyuu Spirits several years ago, but it returned in the 2014 edition of Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu, which is Konami's anime-inspired take on Nippon Professional Baseball (better known to Americans as Power Pros).

Another screenshot (pictured above) suggests that Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2015 will record the location of each pitch and display that information during at-bats. Pitch history charts could only be accessed after a game's conclusion in Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2014.

Konami have declined to comment on whether or not Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2015 might appear later this year on PlayStation 4. The company's first sports title for the system, Pro Evolution Soccer 2015, was released globally last November. Nippon Professional Baseball, however, is a much more niche product -- one that lacks the international appeal of soccer -- and as such, draws a predominantly Japanese audience each year. In its homeland, Sony's PlayStation 4 just recently topped one million units sold this past January, so the Japanese install base might not be large enough yet to justify a PlayStation 4 release of Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2015. Keep an eye on Operation Sports' baseball section, as we'll post a news story whenever Konami's PS4 publishing decision goes public.

Very poor sales of ps4 in japan likely the main reason.

But where would you guys rate PYS 2014 to say 2013/12/11 or 10?

Last one i had i believe was 10

I notice some of the uniform models in 2015 not be as good as before is this true?

Definitely 2014 was the best of that lot. 2010 was a good game as well but the graphics have gotten a lot better since that game, crisper and not that fuzzy look it used to have.

2015 at least to me is the best so far w/o a doubt. Plays a lot looser to me in that there are more errors, hit batters, foul balls, unis seem fine to me but I'm likely not the best to say as that isn't a big thing to me.

2015 added more strategy in the pitcher/batter duel with the Batter: Pitch bonus and changes to the guess pitch and hot /cold zones.

Have been a regular buyer of PYS but was in two minds about the 2015 version seeing as it was only on PS3 but with MLB The Show being a buggy mess on release for the second year in a row, I took the plunge.... so glad I did!!

Without doubt this is the best version of PYS so far!!

The new facial scans make the players/managers look amazing and easily match (if not beat) MLB The Show graphics. Gameplay is excellent as per usual and this year I am definitely seeing more foul balls, HBP's, fielding errors and best of all the CPU waiting for a pitch it likes. I'm assuming this is down to the new guess pitch feature for the CPU, along with the CPU managing the game better. Very noticable that the CPU batters seem to get aggressive when behind in a game etc. almost like they are working to set tactics!!

The beauty of PYS for me is the ability to make the game as easy or as hard as you want and the lack of scripting this causes, unlike The Show which still feels that you are constrained by the CPU deciding outcomes for you!!

Have had an excellent mix of tight games and the odd blow out for both me and the CPU. With the changes made to pitching last year, bringing in a reliever can still be scary but needs must and it doesn't half make for a nervous finish when your circle is shrinking at the speed of light!!

There are also a couple of new camera angles in this year but none are particularly amazing!!

Best baseball game on the market bar none and it's no surprise that The Show has 'borrowed' so many things from it!!

Btw hopefully the new facial scans were done as part of the process of getting the game on the PS4!! Just a pity that there is a lack of Japanese language based games on this console, hence the poor sales of it Japan!! Hurry up, so we can get PYS 2016 on the PS4!!

Looks like no PYS for PS4 ever!!

Hope that's not true. But Konami's focus is mobile games now.

Hopefully if Konami does indeed stop making consol games altogether someone will buy the rights to pys. Also seeing pes is still on for 2016 there is still some hope.

PES will be fine, its their top selling game other than MGS. PYS on ther hand it wouldn't surprise me if this year's version is the last in the series especially since its exclusive in Japan/Asia. If PYS does release in 2016 it'll be in a form of a mobile game.

I'm hoping that the NPB league will want one consol game made to promote their sport and possibly help fund a release but that's probably me being hopeful.

You'd think it being the #1 sport in japan it would sell lots of copies and it would be ok in future for console.
But no PS4 version this year might be because of the mobile game decision.
Then again they had the PS3 to fall back on.
Those PS3 sales might be the make or break for console version in 2016.
Guess will see in 9 months.

Update...

Pinched from the spirit website!!

The top 3 bits are the usual presets, choosing which bat sound you prefer (3 sounds and it lets you play a sample of each) and something to do with the band music.

1. announcer
2.stadium speaker/announcer.
3.Unknown. I can't seem to figure this one out?
4.Live band.
5.HDD (must be stuff you d/l)?
6.crowd.
7.umpire.
8.BGM
9.sound clicker makes when scrolling options.
10. Bat on ball sound.
11.Ball hitting glove sound.
12.Swoosh of the bat swinging and ball being thrown.
13. Batted ball hitting the ground.

They finally added these? PYS 2013 didn't have them, and I was annoyed with how loud catcher glove sounds were and such. For something that had so many options, it was strange it didn't have sound effects sliders.

Glad to see they're now in, but I don't own 2015.

They were listed in the Game Impression thread in the forum and there are a few other translations hidden in there as well.

Love how we can choose from three different bat on ball sounds now!!

Oh and if you have a smart phone or tablet, google translate does a pretty good job from a photo!!
