Peyton Manning is not the Greatest QB of all time
Posted on February 9, 2010 at 03:02 PM.
Men Lie, Women Lie, Sports Media lies.....NUMBERS don't

There are many people who keep on saying that Peyton Manning is the greatest QB of all time....WRONG. He may be the greatest Regular Season QB of all time, but we play the game to win Super Bowls.

Peyton Manning has 4 regular season MVPs....(not deserving of all of them) yet he only has 1 Super Bowl win to his name. On top of that he did not even deserve MVP of that game, that should have gone to Dominic Rhodes. But the Great Media Hype as always looked to crown Manning.

Although he is a great QB without a question, he is not even in the company of the Elite.

Peyton has a 9-9 record in the Postseason.

There are 11 QBs with multiple Super Bowl wins....he is not one of them. They are

Joe "cool" Montana 4
Terry Bradshaw 4
Troy Aikman 3
Tom Brady 3 (still active)
Jim Plunkett 2
Bart Starr 2
Ben Rothlesberger 2 (Still active)
Bob Griese 2
Roger Staubach2
John Elway 2

There are a number of QBs with 1 Super Bowl under their belts.

Peyton has had a HISTORY of choking in Big games dating back to his days at Tennessee...(there is a reason they never won a National Title with him.....Tennessee won with Tee Martin)

The numbers that he put up in the regular season never match up to the ones he puts up in the playoffs. Sure he is a guranteed hit in the Regular season, but in the playoffs against quality opponents He has struggled. Consistently.

He will go down as one of the greatest ever, but unless he pulls out at least a total of 3 Super Bowl wins...he is not even close. To be the best you must BEAT the best.....check his stats against the Patriots/Steelers dynastys in the Playoffs.....

Did you even watch the Superbowl before writing this? If you put the ball in the hands of your receivers and they don't catch it,... who's fault is that? He didn't play his best game, I'll give you that but let me ask you one CRUCIAL question. All those guys you claim are MAYBE better than Peyton,.. how many of them actually CALLED the plays, and how many just ran what the coach called? He's basically the QB AND the offensive coordinator 80% of the time he's on the field. That ALONE puts Peyton on another level. Think about it.

@Pabryant: Yes I watched the Super Bowl...very close to the game. And Manning had a good game....You must understand that why Peyton Calls most of his plays and is the QB ( GREAT!!!)....he also plays in the era when DBs cannot really play defense. So of course his receivers are open a lot more than Joe Montanas, Bradshaw etc etc. You all are not reading the blog correctly...I am not saying that Peyton sucks....he is the BEST QB in the league today. RELAX and practice reading comprehension!

honestly, let's have this argument when his career is over and see if your opinions are the same. but still, if people are saying he's greatest of all time now, that should be saying something. its more than super bowls, i live in Indy and have watched damn near every game he's ever played, i've never seen anyone play the position better, but i know that a lot of people are still going to agree that even if he doesnt win another super bowl, when it's all said and done, he'll be the best at his position ever. dont tell me the regular season doesnt count for anything either because last i remember, you need to win in the reg. season to get to the playoffs and the super bowl. when peyton hangs em up, i dont think you can argue that he will be remembered as THE greatest.

@NDIrish 98.....You can quite possibly be right.....We will have to revisit this debate when his career is done. Right now In my humble opinion....he is not even top 3.

I can read and comprehend. Reading between the lines, what you're really saying is, if the Colts won, that pretty much made Peyton the best ever or close to it. If he wasn't, there would be no need for this blog.

But anyway, you're saying the DB's of the past era are better than the DB's now. Ty Law, Troy Polamalu, Ed Reed, Charles Woodson, Champ Bailey, etc. Bigger, Faster, and arguably smarter as the science of football has become more precise. What you MEANT to say is, as these changes in players has occurred, the edge has gone to the offense, yet that does not discredit Peyton. If you want to talk about the effect of OTHER players on the field, then it is necessary to look at the DEFENSES of the other QB's on the list. Pretty much all of them had better defenses than the Colts. (sidenote: the fact that Ben Rothsliberger was even mentioned almost discredits the whole blog) When you talk about "the best QUARTERBACK", talk about the best quarterback. That in and of itself, lowers the gravity of things like "Superbowl wins." That is a team effort. The only reason Ben Rothsliberger could even be mentioned on the list. And don't get me wrong, I like Big Ben, but he is not even close to being mentioned in these terms,... yet.
