Peyton Manning is not the Greatest QB of all time
Posted on February 9, 2010 at 03:02 PM.
Men Lie, Women Lie, Sports Media lies.....NUMBERS don't

There are many people who keep on saying that Peyton Manning is the greatest QB of all time....WRONG. He may be the greatest Regular Season QB of all time, but we play the game to win Super Bowls.

Peyton Manning has 4 regular season MVPs....(not deserving of all of them) yet he only has 1 Super Bowl win to his name. On top of that he did not even deserve MVP of that game, that should have gone to Dominic Rhodes. But the Great Media Hype as always looked to crown Manning.

Although he is a great QB without a question, he is not even in the company of the Elite.

Peyton has a 9-9 record in the Postseason.

There are 11 QBs with multiple Super Bowl wins....he is not one of them. They are

Joe "cool" Montana 4
Terry Bradshaw 4
Troy Aikman 3
Tom Brady 3 (still active)
Jim Plunkett 2
Bart Starr 2
Ben Rothlesberger 2 (Still active)
Bob Griese 2
Roger Staubach2
John Elway 2

There are a number of QBs with 1 Super Bowl under their belts.

Peyton has had a HISTORY of choking in Big games dating back to his days at Tennessee...(there is a reason they never won a National Title with him.....Tennessee won with Tee Martin)

The numbers that he put up in the regular season never match up to the ones he puts up in the playoffs. Sure he is a guranteed hit in the Regular season, but in the playoffs against quality opponents He has struggled. Consistently.

He will go down as one of the greatest ever, but unless he pulls out at least a total of 3 Super Bowl wins...he is not even close. To be the best you must BEAT the best.....check his stats against the Patriots/Steelers dynastys in the Playoffs.....

While I don't think Manning is the greatest, to me is is up there, from looking at the list I would take Manning over Big Ben and Jim Plunkett

Manning is GREAT, but its hard to bet against Rothlesberger after that last Super Bowl.

We all have opinions, you are entitled to yours.

@rainesdaddy: This is true.

Peyton will go down as the greatest Qb of all time...he just won't have all the rings he wants...and Tom or Big Ben certainly don't belong on that list...they won SB's b/c they had the better team...Peyton Mannings stat line kills both of them...they aren't on the same planet as P.M. but everyone's entitled to there opinion

And your going off strickly SB wins...WOW...like i said Sb wins = better team

@seriousluboy83: Joe Montana is the Greatest of All time. If you are talking about stats then there are plenty of QBs that cold be in the running...I do feel that Peyton Manning is one of the greatest QBs, but he is not the greatest ever.

Although I like Brady better than Manning, I can say that IN THE REGULAR SEASON, P.M. maybe the most consistent to ever do it over his career BUT he is HORRIBLE in the playoffs. This is where it matters most and he comes up short more times than not especially compared to Brady. Team or not, he's not getting it done and throwing a costly INT at a crucial moment of the SB in only his SECOND time to the Big Dance just goes to show he's not all that, overall. The goal line in the NFL, as a QB, is to get your team to the SB. The QB has ALWAYS been looked at as the lead position on a football team, hands down. IF all a QB can do is pad stats all REGULAR SEASON LONG but fail time and time again in the playoffs, I don't think he can be considered the G.O.A.T.

Brady, on the other hand, has done more than the avg QB during the regular season AND in the playoffs INCLUDING 3 SB wins. Even in the loss, it took a MIRACULOUS drive by little Eli Manning to get the W, not to mention, Brady STILL put the ball in Moss' hands on a LAST SECOND HEAVE TO THE ENDZONE. If Moss would have caught it, WHOA! U see the diff. between P.M. and T.B.?

And after all of that, from what I've witness during my time, I could still give it to either Montana or Aikman over P.M. The got ish DONE not only with stats but rings!

@TreyIM2: I could not have said it better. Padding stats in the regular season is one thing...it is another thing entirely to deliver during the playoffs and especially in the Super Bowl. The QB is the leader of the team, he takes the blame when they lose and they glory when they win. And I am simply saying that yes: PM is a heck of a regular season guy....but in the Postseason his struggles have cost his team titles. Sure they consistently win 12+ games a year in the regular season....but come play off time...its a different story.

Petyon Manning will win another SB before he is finished playing this game. No matter what he is on that list of greats.

I 100% agree with this blog...the first few sentences sum it up...

Manning = BEST regular-season quarterback of all-time

It is remained to be seen who the best OVERALL QB is...possibly Montana!?!

So since you are counting super bowl wins as the benchmark for a great QB, does that mean that Dan Marino and Jim Kelly were horrible QB's because they made it to the big game but could never win one?

# 13 biggity13 @ Feb 10
forgot to add Fran Tarkenton and Warren Moon to that list also

Are you kidding me?!?! Rothlesburger over manning? You say he isnt clutch, yet he is first all time in 4 qtr come backs. He did you look and see how he even got to the super bowl this year? These were his recievers: a rookie, 4th round draft pick in Austin collie:a 2nd year reciever out of a division 3 school in pierre garcon, then he had wayne who was pretty much double covered every time they lined up, and dallas clark. And he made them look like hall of famers. And you tell me he isnt among the best quarterbacks of all time.

O and if you say you can only be one the greatest qb's of all time by winning SB's, have you ever heard of a guy named Dan Marino?...
