When it comes to the total package, MLB 14 The Show is one of the top games of the year. However, despite what is an overall solid package, the title is held back slightly by a host of small issues which add up to an actual loss of some of the fun factor within the game.

Add another asterisk to Major League Baseball's latest boast -- this time, its belief that, compared to other sports video games, "Baseball is better."*
*Statement applies only to offline game modes. Online experiences may vary.
Of the five major sports games presently available for PlayStation 4, only NBA Live 14 performs worse online than MLB 14: The Show.

The project is currently self-funded and is being developed with the Unity game engine. Character models, shaders and a play editor are already up and running, according to Mendheim's C2E2 interview with TechRaptor.
Digital Dreams Entertainment, the game's eight-person development team, is planning a return to Kickstarter this August to secure additional funding as Mutant Football League nears completion.
Subsequently, Mutant Football League will target a "summer 2015" digital release on STEAM, Xbox Live and PlayStation Network.
Mutant Football League's previous Kickstarter campaign raised $141,821 from 1,105 backers, but ultimately failed to meet its $750,000 goal.

From the YMCA to the NCAA, zone defenses have become a go-to strategy for many amateur basketball teams.
But at the sport's highest level, the National Basketball Association, true zone defense remains as rare and successful as a Zach Randolph 3-point shot.
No current NBA team uses zone as its primary defense, and excluding outliers like the Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks and Toronto Raptors, who utilize zones in no more than 10 percent of their defensive possessions, few NBA squads show much interest in the scheme.

“Welcome to the future!” sings Trials Fusion's soundtrack. That chorus, which cycles maddeningly throughout Fusion's menus, means to reference the game's 20XX sci-fi setting.
It could just as easily allude to the rising conflict between giant game publishers like Ubisoft and subsidiary studios like RedLynx -- a tug-of-war that the RedLynxes of this industry are presently losing.
The Finnish developer's fun, creative level designs and captivating, “one-more race” gameplay have been sabotaged by frustrating bugs, missing features, unnecessary DRM systems, online server issues and another release-day “Season Pass” that costs just as much as the new, incomplete game you've just purchased.

If dangerous speeds, challenging rivals, plausible physics and deadly collisions are necessary parts of a functioning motorsport simulation, then MXGP is a stranded machine, stuck at the starting line with a set of flat tires.

The addition of 50-plus personality badges and signature skills is where Visual Concepts' algorithms differ from traditional sports gameplay models.
Signature skills like lockdown defender, for instance, can be the difference between forcing a difficult, contested shot and getting shamefully posterized.
This guide compiles information from NBA 2K14's menus about how each signature skill impacts the on-court action.

Earlier this week, NBA 2K14 quietly installed a server-side update that has reduced the amount of virtual currency PlayStation 4 and Xbox One gamers receive for completing owner goals in the My GM game mode.
All season milestones which had previously awarded 200 VC and 250 VC, such as selling out 32 home games or winning the NBA championship, will now yield just 100 VC once they are completed.

In absence of individual player assignments, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of NBA 2K14 have given gamers three “Points of Emphasis” to help control their AI teammates' on-court behavior. During a game, players can apply one offensive emphasis, one defensive emphasis and one bonus “flex” emphasis.

Until FIFA 13's and FIFA 14's recent arrival on the PlayStation Vita, the Nintendo 64's Olympic Hockey 98 held the unofficial title of being the most critically decried, full-priced “roster update” in sports gaming's history. When you consider that $60 in 1998 inflates to roughly $87 in 2014, it's easy to see how the outrage occurred.
In the most succinct review ever published on a major gaming website, IGN's Matt Casamassina awarded Olympic Hockey 98 a 0/10, saying only, “We'll post a new review when Midway releases a new game." The "old game" in reference was Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey 98, which had appeared on the Nintendo 64 just two months prior in December of 1997.

There are many issues that prevent NBA 2K14's My Team mode from being fun: unreliable servers, online input lag, unreasonable card prices, a lack of compelling single player content, duplicate players that must be immediately discarded, no way to trade, sell or buy cards directly from other users.

For NBA Live 14, the numbers look way worse. Only 6 percent of Live owners on the PlayStation Network have the trophy for "calling a play that ends up in a bucket."
