While we often praise The Show series for its small but meaningful changes, MLB 15: The Show does offer one giant change: Diamond Dynasty has been completed revamped.

The core system of the past, which featured fictional players who evolved over time, is gone. Instead, we are given a much more streamlined approach to collecting cards and building a team.

Professional wrestling games are a bit odd. They must capture the spirit of a scripted form of entertainment, while providing a competitive experience with an undetermined outcome. You often change between promoter and athlete, scheduling matches which you then play in. Yet, despite these contradictions, I usually enjoy these titles, even though I am not an ardent follower of the real shows.

Enter 5 Star Wrestling, a PS3 digital title that seeks to recreate the pro wrestling experience. Like the genre’s big budget titles, this smaller game is full of inconsistencies. This time, however, they serve to make a rather dreadful experience.

If there has been a theme to the recent MLB 15: The Show live streams, it's that the development team is focused on the details. From skin tones to lighting, the new additions reinforce the idea that The Show is a series which gets a lot of the "little things" right.

There's a dual danger to this approach though, albeit one mitigated by Sony San Diego's commitment to a deep and transparent marketing strategy: casual users may miss these minute improvements, while long time fans can find plenty of details that are still missing.

When February started, what we knew about MLB 15: The Show was slim. Since then, we’ve been treated to a deluge of information, including weekly live feeds and frank discussions about the development process. As I wrote previously, this marketing strategy is a unique one in the industry — but certainly helps us set our expectations accurately.

Now that March -- and release month -- is here, here are my most anticipated changes and additions, as featured in the streams thus far.

During Thursday's Twitch feed, the MLB 15: The Show team showed off a revamped Diamond Dynasty mode. While there are a lot of things to be excited about with any new version of The Show, improvements to Diamond Dynasty (DD) mode are certainly an intriguing and welcome change.

If you haven't experienced DD before, it's The Show's version of EA's innovative Ultimate Team mode. The gist of these modes is to collect some kind of currency, spend it on packs of virtual cards, and build a competitive team. EA has mastered the art of making Ultimate Team addictive -- and squeezing you for a little extra cash after you've bought the main game.

In our MLB 15: The Show preview podcast last week, I expressed my surprise at the lack of available information. At that time, we were nearly two months away from release, and most of what we knew came from online product pages.

Since then, we've been given a detailed fact sheet and a lengthy Twitch feed to digest. It was while watching the video feed that it occurred to me how unique the marketing of MLB 15 seems to be.

Out of the Park Developments continues to surprise us with their major additions to each version of its outstanding baseball sim. Last year, it was the advent of 3D animations; in 2015, OOTP 16 will add an official MLB license.

As it turns out, one of the top new multiplayer games available on Steam is a sports game...sort of. It's also a lot like a first-person shooter, and contains more colors than you'd think possible.

Robot Roller-Derby Disco Dodgeball is an unwieldy, but hyper-accurate title for this early-access independent game from developer Erik Asmussen. In it, you are a robot, fighting in a Tron-like arena with the simple task of throwing balls at the other team.

A lot of us at Operation Sports, myself included, are quick to point out that our favorite video game genre is sliding toward obscurity. Each year, it seems we lose at least one annual franchise. Some entire sports are only on one console, or worse, not represented at all.

It's easy to prophesize doom; it's much harder to be positive. That said, there are reasons to look forward to 2015 including some that indicate this will be a landmark year.

If you've just unwrapped Madden 15 for either the Xbox One or PS4, you are probably getting used to one of the major new features, the "War in the Trenches 2.0." This new system provides more user control of the defensive line, and can be quite fun--if you take the time to progress through the tutorials and master the controls.

To help you get started, here are some of the best pass rushers in Madden 15, by position, as of the latest roster update.

Thanksgiving is a holiday spent with family, food, and football. When the food runs out and the football ends, what does the sports gamer do with his family? Here are some suggested sports titles to check out this holiday season.

FIFA 15/ Pro Evolution Soccer 2015: Nearly any soccer game is great on the couch with friends, but this fall we’ve been given two stellar titles. Even the controls, at their most basic level, will work for the youngest sports fan.

Madden 15: Similarly, this year has produced an outstanding pro football title, at least on the PS4/Xbox One. Let the trash talking ensue as you replay all of the Thanksgiving matchups deep into Black Friday.

Home Run Derby (like that in MLB 14: The Show): Also perfect for both trash talk and casual play are home run derby contests. Make friendly wagers using pieces of pumpkin pie or leftover Halloween candy. If these seems too traditional, dig out The Bigs 2 for some home run pinball.

Disney Infinity: My daughter and I love designing crazy worlds in this family game, including some outlandish race tracks. There’s nothing quite like pulling off some crazy stunts as Iron Man astride the Muppet’s Electric Mayhem Bus. Also, the extra Disney Infinity figures make great stocking stuffers.

Nearly any arcade sports title from a previous generation: Thanksgiving is a natural time for reminiscing, so why not blow the dust off of your old consoles and relive the glory years. Games like Tecmo Bowl, Blades of Steel, WWE AllStars, and the Street series are easy to jump back into, assuming your copies still work!

Mario Kart 8: It seems like Mario Kart 8 might be one of the best reasons to own a Wii-U, while at the same time holding universal appeal to nearly every age group.

Happy Thanksgiving from Operation Sports!

What do you plan on playing with your family this holiday season?
