As usual, the community creations section of the WWE game du jour is ripe with content from passionate creators, including characters, arenas, movesets and storylines. I'll try and highlight some of them from time to time, including this list of ten character creations that caught my eye.

Jey Uso & Jimmy Uso

2K has released the details on the DLC packages and season pass for WWE 2K14, and there's actually some good stuff to be had in the various downloadable offerings. The whole package can be had for $19.99, and if you're into some of the creation offerings in the franchise, there seem to be some good options in here for you.

I've got to say that it's a bit galling seeing moves being offered as a DLC pack, especially ... Read More

There's been lots of news about WWE 2K14 in the last week or so, especially since the game's October 29 release date is fast approaching. We now have a better sense of all of the improvements and additions to the gameplay, and we're getting a sense for what this means for the 30 Years of WrestleMania mode as well as Universe Mode.

Universe Mode Details

After 2K showed off "Universe Mode 4.0" ... Read More

There's been a lot of news from the world of fighting games, especially since WWE 2K14 is approaching release and EA UFC is allowed to pull back the curtain a bit more.

Let's get to it...

EA UFC Adds Women's Division

One of the recent developments for EA UFC is that it will feature a playable roster of women for the first time ever in a UFC game. The company only confirmed that champion ... Read More

When I wrote an earlier piece about 10 matches that will likely appear in WWE 2K14's "30 Years of Wrestlemania" mode, I was just speculating on the possible match combinations and competitors that 2K might include in the game. Now that 2K has revealed the full roster as well as a trailer associated with it, it's much easier to make some informed speculation on what matches will be included in the mode.

For those that ... Read More

I'll give 2K Sports some credit, as I didn't think they would do all that much with the retro stuff they had been touting. I'm pleasantly surprised that the "campaign" concept that the Attitude Era mode from last year created is being leveraged to highlight great moments in the (almost) 30-year history of the WWF/WWE's biggest pay-per-view event. The Attitude Era stuff from last year was really entertaining thanks to the slick presentation ... Read More

With 2K Sports releasing a slew of new "gameplay improvements" for the upcoming WWE 2K14, there's a lot to mull over. Let's get to it.

New Navigation System

Quote:
The entire navigation system has been overhauled and reanimated including all walking, running, and dragging motions to give the game a more fluid and life-like feel and look.
This seems like a great change, as the transition between ... Read More

It's a funny thing when marketing necessity meets financial need, and we got to see that with Jim "Ultimate Warrior" Hellwig shilling for the upcoming WWE 2K14 product. As "amazing" as the commercial is, it's also a pretty sad reminder of how marginalized half of these "legends" have become in the wrestling business. After I see an ad like this, I'm left wondering: who is this ... Read More

With 2K releasing a new trailer for the upcoming WWE 2K14, we now know a little bit more about the next game in the long line of Yukes-developed WWE products. If the trailer is any indication, the game seems to once again be playing up the nostalgia of the brand, with The Rock as the cover athlete and lots of lingering shots of Randy Savage and Shawn Michaels.

The likely scenario is that we'll get some kind of "Be-A-Legend" ... Read More

With E3 just around the corner, the big three fighting games are all in different places on the spectrum. Amusingly, we haven't really actually seen anything from the upcoming games, even though we're hearing a lot about them.

The Fate of Fight Night

In a recent statement, EA has directed some cynicism towards its generally well-liked Fight Night brand, and the company seems to have shifted its focus ... Read More

With 2K announcing that The Rock will be on the cover of WWE 14, it got me thinking about the role of covers in the sports game business. Obviously, there is some fan interaction and input by having cover votes and the like, but in this day and age of sports, can one person really embody all that is good and desirable about the sport?

With the WWE choosing The Rock as their cover athlete, it sends a ... Read More

After reading about Ring Kings, a project boxing management sim that is looking for funding on Kickstarter (interview with devs forthcoming), it got me thinking about indie games and how the fighting game space can leverage crowd-sourcing to fill the gaps left by the current crop of AAA products.

Ring Kings looks to fill the gap left by the Fight Night series by providing a deep simulation management ... Read More

Kind of interesting to see 2K get cracking on the WWE license right away, but not in the way you might think. Since they scooped up the license from THQ, they've clearly been anxious to cash in on the love that WWE '13 has received, especially since they announced WWE '14 almost immediately, which shows that a product probably didn't even exist other than on ... Definitely a shame to see William Moody -- known to wrestling fans as Paul Bearer -- passing away on Tuesday. It appears he was battling various illnesses, which isn't entirely surprising considering Moody's notable weight problems over the last 10-15 years. He was 58 years old.

Whenever I heard or read interviews with the guy, he always seemed like a pretty grounded individual. He constantly ... Read More
