Last Friday EA posted a new blog that outlines some of the gameplay improvements for NHL 14. The changes appear to touch all aspects of the game, and they also address some lingering concerns that people have had over the last couple of years. Then again, some of these things should have been dealt with before now (players facing the wrong way, line change logic, etc.)

I will say that it is nice to see EA actually ... Read More

With 2K Sports releasing a slew of new "gameplay improvements" for the upcoming WWE 2K14, there's a lot to mull over. Let's get to it.

New Navigation System

Quote:
The entire navigation system has been overhauled and reanimated including all walking, running, and dragging motions to give the game a more fluid and life-like feel and look.
This seems like a great change, as the transition between ... Read More

With WWE 2K14 looking to use nostalgia to ingratiate itself with the public, I can't help but also feel cynical about the NHL '94 "Anniversary Mode" that is currently being trotted out by the folks at EA to get people excited for NHL 14. While the mode is clearly looking to pay tribute to one of the most beloved retro hockey games of all time, it seems to be doing so without actually acknowledging what made the older games so appealing. ... It's a funny thing when marketing necessity meets financial need, and we got to see that with Jim "Ultimate Warrior" Hellwig shilling for the upcoming WWE 2K14 product. As "amazing" as the commercial is, it's also a pretty sad reminder of how marginalized half of these "legends" have become in the wrestling business. After I see an ad like this, I'm left wondering: who is this ... Read More

There's been a good deal of news about NHL 14 over the last few days, with some new features announced as well some old ones being fleshed out.

Let's get to it, shall we?

NHL '94 Anniversary Mode

As they had hinted at for several months now, EA announced a special mode in NHL 14 that pays homage to the 20th anniversary of NHL '94. Widely considered to be the best "retro" entry ... Read More

On July 3rd, the gaming world lost one of its best orators and advocates, as Ryan Davis passed away at the age of 34. It's definitely not surprising to me how much love, sympathy, disbelief and sadness has been expressed about his passing, as the crew at Giant Bomb have fostered a unique cult of personality that galvanizes its fans by giving a window into the people who make the site what it is. The perils of doing this, ... Read More

EA has released another trailer for NHL 14, and this video covers one of the lingering areas that has bothered players for the last couple of years: the goalies. My time with the game at E3 gave me a good indication that the goalies were going to animate, move and behave a lot differently, but this trailer seems to emphasize these changes with some concrete examples. As with all of these types of sizzle reels, it will need to be tested ... Read More

That's a lot of people (two million, apparently).

Chicago gets to party with the cup once again, and you can't really deny that they deserve it. I've always felt that the recent era of the Chicago Blackhawks are the ultimate buzzsaw, as once they get going, they just cut through people. Having such an explosive offense as they do, it's hard to really vote against them in a playoff series. ... Read More

With 2K releasing a new trailer for the upcoming WWE 2K14, we now know a little bit more about the next game in the long line of Yukes-developed WWE products. If the trailer is any indication, the game seems to once again be playing up the nostalgia of the brand, with The Rock as the cover athlete and lots of lingering shots of Randy Savage and Shawn Michaels.

The likely scenario is that we'll get some kind of "Be-A-Legend" ... Read More

I've been to E3 three times now, and it's always such a zany place to go. To be sure, it's a treat to be able to go into what is essentially a giant video arcade and play around, but getting from place to place can always be a bit crazy with the sheer amount of people there. Either way, the industry needs the E3 spectacle in order to gain public mind share and to keep itself on its toes, so it's hard ... Read More

With EA showing yet another trailer for EA UFC today, we were able to glean a few more details about what this next-gen MMA product will be about. Disappointingly, they didn't show any true gameplay in that trailer, but there seemed to be a possibility of the game being playable on the show floor, so we'll certainly try and get our hands on it.

The new "MMAI" was setup as a game-changer for fighter intelligence, with ... Read More

With the release of the new trailer and dev diary for NHL 14's "enforcer engine," EA is providing a glimpse of how fights will look and play in this year's game. I think most people would agree that fighting isn't something that holds that much sway over how a game of hockey is played, but it's nice to see that aspect of the sport represented much more accurately.

If nothing else, EA seems to be addressing the logic ... Read More

With EA having completed its tease on twitter of "eight features in eight days" for EA UFC, we now have a better sense of what some of the innovations might be for this next-gen MMA product (scheduled to come out in the spring/summer of 2014). We'll know more at E3 next week, where some more gameplay pics -- and potentially hands-on time -- will be likely, but from what they're teasing, it looks they're focusing on core gameplay ... Heading into the third round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, the four favorites to win it all are the only remaining teams. Detroit put up more of a fight over Chicago than I thought they would, but PIttsburgh and LA seemed like locks to me. I was actually surprised that the Rangers didn't pull off the upset, but Boston established the early series lead and never looked back. Then again, the Rangers being ... Read More

With E3 just around the corner, the big three fighting games are all in different places on the spectrum. Amusingly, we haven't really actually seen anything from the upcoming games, even though we're hearing a lot about them.

The Fate of Fight Night

In a recent statement, EA has directed some cynicism towards its generally well-liked Fight Night brand, and the company seems to have shifted its focus ... Read More
