Comments:
There are going to be up and downs with young players, but Coach Cotino has been impressed as I have with this team over the past few months. This team is growing as a unit, and the best part about this seems to be the defense and goalies are rounding into form. The scoring is up and down which is to be expected, but from what I've seen there is more good than bad. This was a busy month and it could have been rough, but the boys fought hard to salvage some points that might have been lost. It's just going to get harder the deeper we go into the season, but the Hogs look to be on track for their first playoff birth in two years.

BREAKING NEWS:
Acquire
2014 - 1st Round Pick
Acquire
D - Dennis Seidenberg
Quick Hit - We originally claimed Seidenberg for insurance when we dealt Hjalmarsson, because Hjalmarsson is up at the end of the season. The more we thought about it the more we want to take the chance that Hjalmarsson won't be looking for a lot of money in the off-season. It's a gamble, and he still might be dealt, but in a perfect world he doesn't look for too much of a raise and we get to keep out solid 26 year old D man, along with signing the necessary forwards as mentioned before. Thrilled to get another 1st round pick moving into this draft, should and could be a great one too. Don't for a second think that Bowman is done, there could be another deal right around the corner, but it might not come until the deadline.

Comments:
Solid bounce back month from the boys, not like last month was bad by any means, but the four game losing streak at the end of it could have been cause for concern. Winning six straight to start the month was a very nice thing to see, then losing three in a row was unfortunate but I don't think it's a reflection of the teams up and down issues that they had last year. Giroux, wow, 10 goals this month, and he is clearly in our plans moving past this year, which is why we need to move some money around, so you will see that happening here, we have made a few decisions. Crawford's numbers took a bit of a hit only because of three of the games he lost, in those games he gave up 5 or more three times, not good, but I don't think that's all on him in those games. Games were spaced out pretty good this month, but Salak did his job going 2-0 in his only two starts of the month. Good to see the Captain setting the pace offensively, this team looks dangerous, but might look different in a couple weeks.

Comments:
WOW, the Rockford IceHogs have bought into Gark Cotino's system and it's a beautiful team. Talk about a dominant month, the Hogs went 8-2, and showed flashes that they could be one of the teams to beat in the AHL this year. It also shows that the Hawks organ-i-zational depth is as strong on the ice as it is on paper. Niemi had a stellar month, and is starting to show the promise that his Coach thought was there when he decided not to put him on the block and stick with him. Offensively Brandon Saad is showing everyone that he could be a force to be reckoned with in the NHL sooner than later as he amassed 15 points (all assists in 10 games this month. Very exciting times on the Rock, hopefully they keep it going this month and continue to improve.

Claim
D - Dennis Seidenberg (1 year remaining; $3,250,000)
I like this move a lot. Right now we have Leddy (81), and Leonov (77) playing on the backend, this gives us O'Byrne (81), and Seidenberg (84) for insurance purposes and this could signal a bigger move in the works. It was first believe that the Hawks would have to get a D man back in a Hjalmarsson move, now that doesn't seem to be the case, stay tuned, things are going to get crazy.

Comments:
Boys are still playing well, but a trained eye can see weaknesses do exist with this team. Of course no one could expect this team to continue on the killer pace that they started the season on, but there are area's in this teams game that can improve. Since the first couple weeks of the season the special teams have been on a steady decline, a few moves were made here and there, and hopefully that corrects a few things. The other big news here is what to do with the off-season coming up, much has been talked about on here about this being a pivotal off-season for the Hawks. Bolland, Giroux, Morin, Hjalmarsson, Simmonds, all these guys are up, and Giroux is going to want some serious cash. That's why names like Sharp and Hjalmarsson are on the block, this organ-i-zation is going to have to make some tough decisions that some fans don't like, and there is that thin line of go for it all right now, or try and get the cup and move some important pieces, and interesting few months ahead, stay tuned. Lot's of updates tonight.

Comments:
A much better month, a little up and down at the beginning and end of the month, but the middle of the month was pretty solid. The goaltending seems to be coming around, enough that I don't think it makes sense at this point to continue to look for a legit #1 goalie prospect on the market, especially with a stacked draft coming up. Offensively we've gone in the tank, but the penalty kill continues to do it's job. "Bottom line is we need to score, there are some talented teams down here in the A and you can't expect to compete if you can't put the puck in the net, so we made some changes," said Coach Cotino. Changes he's referring too are Daivd Toews scratched in favor of Rob Flick, and Bryan Froese scratched for Tomas Fillipi who is considered a solid sniper.

Comments:
Never had a stretch like this, I'll be honest with you. It's not so much dominance over teams that is leading to wins, it's clutch saves, and clutch goals. This team is oozing clutch right now, one win was a 2-0 deficit turned around, another one was tying a game late then winning in OT. It's timely scoring, and a fierce power play that is putting W's in the bank. No movement on the trade front, but that might change soon enough, but one would be crazy to mess with this team right now..... right?---

Mediocre, by definition that is what this team is so far thru only 7 games. The issue now is goaltending, "We play a solid game, I would even say we dominate the game, then we let a weak one in and it changes the whole game, it can't stay this way, it won't, I can promise you that," said Coach Cotino after a recent loss. Rumors are out there that the Hawks organ-i-zation is looking to make a serious move for a goaltending prospect, for now they want to see how Niemi develops.

The boys continue to roll, what's more impressive is the numbers that I'm not posting, the young guys are holding their own. I can't tell you how exciting it is to go thru a dynasty and take a chance on a couple guys and see them battle, develop and then succeed, it's a great feeling. Stellar special teams right now as well, not much going wrong at this point, and I love the fact that I have a few guys at above a point a game pace, we haven't had that here in a few years, even in last year's cup run.---

I know I said that I couldn't complain with that 4-0 start, well I really can't complain about this 7-0 start, amazing start to the season. I guess to be critical I will say the penalty kill has to get better because it's not top 10 . Great start from the boys, seem very motivated to make up for last year's cup finals disappointment. Tons of good things out there on the ice, nice to see all the lines clicking so far, but I know this can't last forever, especially with young guys at important positions, there will be a falling back to Earth, important thing is to limit the damage when things start to turn because they will. But screw that for now, all positives, 7-0, wooooo!---

Comments:
Goaltending has had a rough go of it, and I don't think it's the defense in front of them as illustrated by the BEST PK IN THE LEAGUE! Hopefully they turn it around, as I think they should be better. Nice to see DiDomenico and Grenier off to hot starts, I really think that Grenier is going to be a legit prospect. Another two game week ahead, might do Down on the Rock! reports monthly, just because of how odd the AHL schedule is.

GM Stan Bowman had a small deal to announce this afternoon...
Acquire
2014 - 3rd Round Pick
2015 - 3rd Round Pick
Acquire
2014 - 2nd Round Pick
Analysis:
I don't like giving up 3rd round picks, but from the looks of the team right now, those third round picks will be late third round picks so it doesn't kill me as if I need to move up in the third round to grab someone I feel I can make a deal to do so. What this does do is give me the flexibility to now use my 2nd rounder or Winnipeg's 2nd rounder in a package deal to acquire a player down the road. At this point (as you will see in my next update) changes do not need to be made, but it's nice to have it just in case. If no deals are made then I have two 2nd rounders moving into the draft this year and can move up in the 1st round if I need to. Draft/Player movement flexibility is a wonderful thing.

Let me know if you guys like these updates, should I add things, take things away? I want to focus on more of the team and player updates throughout the year, rather than playing every single game and isolating it, at least until the playoffs. So I would love your feedback.

Tough to really evaluate anything after two games, but saw some good things, and some bad. The good being Grenier, he seems to be on a path to stardom and a huge season in the "A" would be a great start. The bad, the goaltending, but it's early Myrvold actually got in a little bit and did well, he will get a start next weekend. So-So start, but I like the direction that Cotino is leading this club in.---
