As far as starts go, this one was bad, however the scoreboard read something completely different. The Coyotes carried the play throughout the first period but at the end of 20 the Hawks held a 2-0 lead thanks in part to the Bolland, Hossa, Stalberg line which seems to be the only think going right for the Hawks right now. Stalberg had a puck go off his leg and in, and Hossa was able to snipe the top corner and just like that the Hawks head to the 2nd period up 2-0 despite being outshot 11-5.

The second period started much like the first, the Hawks chasing all over the ice. The Coyotes were able to pull within a goal early in the second as Radim Vrbata was able to bang home a rebound just under 2 minutes into the period. From that point on the period was wide open, and the play was up and down the ice. The Hawks caught a break midway thru the period when they were sent to the PP, and off the draw the Coyotes cleared the puck over the glass to put the Hawks up two guys. But Mike Smith stood tall, making quality stop after quality stop. No less then 30 seconds after the Coyotes killed off both penalties the Hawks were able to strike as Toews finished a sick feed from Kane to give the Hawks a 2 goal lead, and that's where we stand headed to the 3rd period.

Now that is Blackhawks hockey. Bottle that one up and use it the rest of the season, after two wide open periods the Hawks clamped down in the third limiting a Coyote team that was chasing two goals to only 6 shots. While that might seem boring to some, it's music to coach Q's ears, "That's how we need to play for 60 minutes, having a ton of talent is great, but if you turn the puck over consistently you will be using that talent to retrieve the puck from your net." The Hawks are officially on a roll, that's four straight, taking care of teams they should beat early in the season so they aren't chasing points late in the year.

For the second time in less than a week the Hawks will face Phoenix at the United Center. No major lineup changes on tap for this one except Ray Emery will get the rare nod between the pipes.

Last meeting - Hawks def Phoenix 5-2

Typical St. Louis Blues hockey, not a lot of room out there tonight. Hawks won a key offensive zone draw and worked hard to open a shot for the point from Seabrook which Kane was able to get a stick on, the puck trickled thru Halak's pads to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead late in the period. Crawford has been solid but hasn't been tested too often, most of the opportunities were from the outside and the defense did a good job limiting the second and third chances. Bolland's line has been limited as the Blues have keyed on it, the 3rd and 4th line of the Hawks has been able to gain some zone time but the Hawks have not established any offensive flow yet.

Back to back nights are starting to show. The Hawks were sluggish to start the second stanza and paid for it. The Blue were able to tie it up early on the power play as Montador's stick broke thus leaving the Blues with a 5 on 3 which they capatalized on. The Hawks regained control or at least leveled the playing field mid way thru the 2nd period thanks to a few power plays but were unable to find the net on either, including a breakaway from Kane that rang of the post. The real back breaker was with less then 10 seconds left Crawford bobbled a dump in that went right to Arnott who tapped it into an empty net with 4 seconds left in the period giving the Blues a late 2-1 lead. The Blues hold the edge in shots 25-13 through two periods, Hawks need to dig deep to find a way to get a point tonight.

Through some dogged work the Hawks were able to find the equalizer as a horrible change by the Blues led to Michael Frolik streaking down the end boards all alone, he wound up and blew a slapper thru Halak. Halak wanted that one back as he got a big piece of it, but the game was once again all square at 2 with 14 minutes left. The Hawks continued to push, playing their best period of the game, and finally got a result they were looking for as Michael Frolik found Brunette cutting through the slot who was able to unload a wrister past Halak shot side to give the Hawks a leade with 6:30 left in the game. The Blues pushed back, cycling the Hawks zone two shifts in a row, then they got what they were looking for, a bad turnover to Patrik Berglund who's wrist shot bounced off of Hjalmarsson and past Crawford to tie the game at 3 with four minutes remaining, and that's how it stays as we head to overtime.

Hawks get a huge break in OT as Backes is called for checking from behind and the Hawks go to the PP for the remaining two minutes of OT. But, the # 1 unit in the league could not come thru as Halak stood tall, but the Hawks were sloppy, looking for the pretty play instead of getting pucks and traffic to the net, to the SO we go....

Corey Crawford stood tall in the SO, and Marian Hossa left no doubt that the Hawks were walking out of Scott Trade with two big points. Hawks Win! That's three straight wins for the Hawks as they get a day off before heading home to face the Coyotes to cap off three games in four nights. Expect Ray Emery to get the call in net.

Special Note: I am going to try and hook up my Hauppagge to get highlights for the games, stay tuned.

Critical stretch for the Hawks here. Starting with St. Louis tonight they face .500 or worse teams for the next two week, coming off two rather impressive outings the Hawks have a chance to put some separation between themselves and the rest of the tightly packed Western Conference...

GAME DAY:

Sharp - Toews - Kane
Seabrook - Hjalmarsson

Crawford

That's how the Hawks lineup tonight. Halak will be opposing the Hawks tonight.

PLAYER TO WATCH:

Dave Bolland, the Center is on a tear, and has been recently bumped up to the second line to spark some 5 on 5 offense from that group.

Another night and another familiar name on the score sheet for the Chicago Blackhawks, Dave Bolland. In a game that was tight checking throughout, Bolland found some space and made no mistake midway thru the 3rd period for the game winning tally.

The first period was rugged to say the least, not a lot of room for two highly skilled teams. The scoring, as rare as it was came within seconds of one another. Marian Hossa was able to put the Hawks in front early but Brian Rolston was able to answer no less then 20 seconds later. The Hawks battled, not giving an inch in the second period as the game was knotted up going to the third period. It stayed that was until Dave Bolland broke in on a 2 on 1 and buried a wrist shot high glove on Nabakov for the game winner. Crawford made some key saves down the stretch to the delight of yet another packed house at the United Center. The Hawks have now won two straight gut check wins on home ice, expect Ray Emery to get the nod in the second half of a back to back.

I will update standings after this game as well. I recently had back surgery so all I can do is watch TV, play NHL 12, and take pain killers... ok.

Big line changes mid game last night as I was not happy with the effort coming off a mediocre road trip and a horrid start against the Yotes, it paid off, let's see if we continue to get results. Here are the lines for tonight.
