Erick Aybar with the beautiful throw from his knees, to throw out Robbie Cano!

Swishalicious with the beautiful basket catch to rob Erick Aybar of a hit!

Erick Aybar showing no love for Jorge, as there was a big collision at the plate!

New York can't overcome Los Angeles and Joe Saunders in loss to talented left-hander.

It was an ugly effort for the Yankees last night, as the Angels whipped them 8-1 in front of 45,281 happy fans at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Mark Teixeira provided the offense, getting a pair of hits -- including a solo home run -- in 4 at-bats. Roy Oswalt started, but he only managed to work 3 innings, allowing 5 runs and 5 hits to take the loss, dropping him to 0-2 on the year.

The Yankees and Angels play game 2 today, with Andy Pettitte (2-0, 5.40) and Scott Kazmir (3-0, 3.54) the probable starters. Erick Aybar looks to build on his 16-game hitting streak.

The Yankees are taken down by tough right-hander Justin Duchscherer, who picks up win for the Athletics.

The Yankees gave the Athletics a tight game, but in the end Oakland pulled out the 5-4 win at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum last night. Brett Gardner sparked the offense, going 2-for-3 on the day. C.C. Sabathia got the call but he wasn't sharp in his 6 and two thirds innings of work, yielding 5 runs on 12 hits, as the loss dropped his record to 3-1. After the game the media caught up with Brett Gardner who had this to say, "We can't win every game, so it's no big deal this streak was snapped."

The Yankees go to Los Angeles to start a new series with the Angels, with Roy Oswalt (0-1, 2.84) set to take on Joe Saunders (1-1, 7.24) under the lights at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.

Jolly Old St. Nick with a little victory jump after hitting his first home run on the season!

Trailing late, Yankees rally to defeat Athletics.

Under the bright lights on the road in Oakland, the Yankees won easily over the Athletics, 7-1. Alex Rodriguez provided the offense, getting a pair of hits -- including a solo home run -- in 5 at-bats. Phil Hughes allowed 5 hits and 1 run over 6 and a third innings, and the bullpen was able to close the door to seal his 1st win of the season. A-Rod, discussing the game, said, "It's hard to be on the winning end of a game like this sometimes, but not as hard as it is to be on the losing end."

Today the series wraps up at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, and the Yankees -- behind their ace, C.C. Sabathia (3-0, 0.84), who squares off with the Athletics' Justin Duchscherer (0-2, 3.38) -- look to finish off the sweep.

Pounding Trevor Cahill, who allows 4 runs, the Yankees are able to pick up a win.

The Yankees were in Oakland today, busy edging the Athletics 5-4 in a one-run contest playing in front of 26,317 mostly sad fans at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. The offense was paced by Alex Rodriguez, who went 2-for-3 and knocked in 2 runs. Javier went the first 6 and a third innings, giving up 3 runs on 9 hits, to pick up his 1st win of the season. A-Rod took some questions from reporters after the game. "We got to Trevor Cahill quickly today. We were able to keep him out of a good rhythm, and came away with the win."

Game 2 is this evening, with Phil Hughes (0-0, 1.50) taking the mound for the visiting Yankees and Ben Sheets (0-2, 6.91) getting the nod for the Athletics.

Jorge juiced one here for his 1500 career-hit!

New York defeats visiting Texas to win series 2-1.

The Yankees had a somewhat easy time of it against the Rangers yesterday, winning 10-4 in front of a crowd of 47,300 at Yankee Stadium. Curtis Granderson collected 2 hits -- including a home run -- and 4 RBI in 4 at-bats to spur the offense. Andy Pettitte collected the win, working 6 and a third innings and giving up 4 runs and 7 hits. Jorge Posada achieved a personal milestone in the game, picking up career-hit number 1500. The ball was a home run so Jorge will not be able to this one in his trophy case.

The Yankees and Athletics will begin a series tomorrow in Oakland, as Javier Vazquez (0-1 8.18) and Trevor Cahill (0-1, 16.50) will face under the lights at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.

Swishalicious admires his only hit on the day. It went the distance but was not enough to beat the Rangers.

New York toppled by Texas in non-divisional game.

It was a tight game, but the Yankees couldn't pull out a win today, as the Rangers won by the count of 3-2. Nick Swisher gave the offense a jolt with a big home run -- the only hit he had on the day -- and 2 RBI. Roy Oswalt went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs and 11 hits, but he didn't factor into the decision. David Rovertson did plenty of damage in his 1 inning out of the bullpen, giving up 1 run taking the loss in relief of Roy Oswalt. Following the contest Roy Oswalt was interviewed and he had this to say about his team,"You don't have to look too far to figure out how we lost today. Our bullpen was awful."

The Yankees and Rangers wrap up their series this evening with Andy Pettitte (1-0, 5.25) and Scott Feldman (0-1, 6.75) projected to start at Yankee Stadium.

Nick Swisher came through with only one hit, but it went the distance to give the offense a much-needed jolt. After the game, the media caught up with C.C. and he had this to say. "Hats off to our guys for pulling it out late. I knew we had one good rally in us."

The series resumes this afternoon, with the much anticipated start of Roy Oswalt (0-1, 3.00) scaling the mound for the Yankees to face off with C.J. Wilson (1-0, 2.13) and the Rangers.

New York stumbles against Los Angeles, lose no-divisional tilt.

The Yankees were on the losing end of a narrow 2-1 decision last night, with the Angels getting the win at Yankee Stadium. Phil Hughes wasn't bad, allowing 1 run over 6 innings, but all he has to show for it is a no-decision. Alfredo Aceves did plenty of damage in his 1 and two thirds innings out of the bullpen, giving up 1 run taking the loss in relief of Phil Hughes. Curtis Granderson was 1-for-2. That's it. One hit in 2 at-bats. No home runs. No RBI. Hey, we had to mention someone!

Tonight at Yankee Stadium the Yankees will throw their best starter, C.C. Sabathia (2-0, 0.63), at the visiting Rangers, who arrive in town for a new series with Tommy Hunter (0-1, 5.06) set to take the mound.

Manager Joe Girardi shows a slight smile as his club gets the win today.

At home, Yankees pick up win, take 1-0 lead in their series.

The score of the game today was 7-3, as the Yankees took care of the Angels to send the 52,325 fans at Yankee Stadium away with a smile -- at least until they got to the jammed parking lot. Worst. Traffic. Ever. Going 3-for-4 and driving in 1 run, Nick Swisher was the catalyst offensively. Andy Pettitte allowed 2 runs on 8 hits in 7 innings of work, to earn his 1st win of the season. Alex Rodriguez reached a milestone by stealing his 300th base of his career.

The series continues tonight, with a pitching matchup of the Yankees' Javier Vazquez (0-0, 10.80) against the Angels' Scott Kazmir (1-0, 4.05).

Houston Astros GM Ed Wade had this to say,"We were very excited when we got the phone call from the Yankees organization. We are giving up our best pitcher for a great prospect and starter A.J. Burnett. I hope the fans understand that we are a rebuilding team right now and we could really use more talent in our farm systems."

New York Yankees GM Brian Cashman had this to say,"A.J. Burnett has not showed us any signs of consistency. I know it's been only two starts but this topic has been discussed during the off season as well. A.J. was great for us last season helping us bring home the WS title. And we thank him dearly for that, as for Jesus. He is indeed a great prospect, but as his title states that's all that he is to us right now. We believe that Roy Oswalt will fit our rotation perfectly and should do tremendous for us this season."

Roy Oswalt had this to say," I was told that the team was looking to put me in a trade to bring back some young talent. I have no problem with going to New York as they win a lot of championships there and I would love to be apart of the great history."

A.J. Burnett had this to say," I had not heard anything of me being put into any type of trade. After my last start I was told by Joe Girardi that I could be leaving soon. That was my first time of ever hearing anything about this situation. I guess I have fulfilled my job with the Yankees and it's time for me to go. I'm looking forward to going to Houston, they are a rebuilding team and are looking to be very strong in the future. Hopefully I can stay with them long enough to be apart of this process."

Key divisional game goes south for New York, who loses to Tampa Bay.

The Yankees couldn't do much against the Rays tonight, losing to the Rays by a 9-5 count in a contest of AL East foes. Carrying the load for the offense, Alex Rodriguez smashed 2 home runs and drove in 3 runs on the day. A.J. Burnett (0-2) drew the starting assignment and gave up only 4 hits, but he couldn't get past 3 innings, as he allowed 4 runs in defeat. The media caught up with A-Rod and asked him about the game, and had this to say, "A.J. Burnett didn't have his best stuff today and we didn't get the offense to bail him out."

The Yankees begin a series with the Angels tomorrow night at Yankee Stadium, with Andy Pettitte (0-0, 9.00) and Joe Saunders (0-0, 18.00) scheduled to start.

C.C. delivers a pitch in the first inning of his complete game 5 hit shutout.

Robbie Cano shows that working with Kevin Long in the off season has payed off. As he is able to connect for his first home run of the season.

In a rout, Yankees soundly victorious over the Rays.

Today at Tropicana Field the visiting Yankees destroyed the Rays 7-0, giving the 32,836 fans on hand at Tropicana Field little to be happy about. Getting the win was C.C. Sabathia, who gave up no runs on 5 hits en route to getting his 2nd win of the season. Robinson Cano gave the club a spark offensively, getting 2 hits -- including a solo home run --- in 4 at-bats. When asked about his team's performance, Robinson Cano said, "We had it all going today, and if we could play like this every game, we all would be very rich men. Well, richer than we already are, that is."

The series wraps up later this evening, with A.J. Burnett (0-1, 16.20) set to work against James Shields (1-0, 1.23) and the Rays.

The Yankees worked overtime last night, but it was the Rays who eventually won the AL East contest 11-10, in 12 innings. Sergio Mitre was saddled with the loss in relief, as he worked 1 and two thirds innings out of the bullpen in extra innings. Derek Jeter picked up 1 RBI and 3 hits to spark the club offensively.

The Yankees and Rays play again tonight at Tropicana Field, as New York sends Phil Hughes (0-0, 0.00) to the mound against Wade Davis (0-0, 0.00) in game 2 of the series.

Andy Pettitte roughed up as the Yankees fall to the Red Sox.

Playing long into the night on the road, the Yankees couldn't pull it out against the Red Sox, losing 7-6 in 12 innings. Mark Teixeira collected 2 hits -- including a home run -- and 3 RBI in 6 at-bats to spur the offense. Chan Ho Park was saddled with the loss in relief, as he worked 1 and two thirds innings out of the bullpen in extra innings. The media caught up with Chan Ho Park after the game and asked him about his team's efforts. He replied with: "The bullpen didn't get the job done today, but give the Red Sox credit where it's due."

The Yankees will be in Tampa Bay tomorrow night with the Rays, as Javier Vazquez (0-0, 0.00) is slated to face Jeff Niemann (0-0, 0.00) in the first game.
