It's now May 21, and I'm still playing MLB 09: The Show strong. My pace is still about 1-2 games per day and it looks like I'm 100% for sure going to finish my first ever full season of a baseball game by playing every game in quite awhile.
I don't think I'm stopping anytime soon either. I may be playing The Show well into October. For a guy like myself, who reviews sports games, it's awful hard to stick to a game that long without getting fully distracted by other titles. So playing The Show strong for almost seven months is saying something.
But what about you? What is the longest you have ever played any sports game? I know the lifespan of sports games in my consoles is comparatively short to other folks'. How long has your longest 'relationship' with a game lasted?

I too have a relatively short attention span when it comes to game longevity. However, by far and wide the most I have ever played a sports game (or any game) consecutively is NCAA Football 09. I ran an SEC-exclusive online dynasty and it ran at full capacity for right at 6 months. Offline, I am still playing that game. It's not perfect but is definitely the best iteration to come out to this point. Next in line would have to be NHL '94 on the Sega Genesis. My buddies and used to get into some serious tournaments with that gem. Cheers!

The game I logged the most time on had to be MVP Baseball 2005 for the Xbox. I played every game through three complete 162-game seasons with the Cubs, and for the first season and a half I played every minor league game as well - AAA, AA, and single-A.
I agree with JohnDoh that NCAA Football 09 is definitely going to see some serious longevity as well. Though the Team Builder in NCAA 10 is giving me the itch to upgrade. Must... resist...

I played ESPN NFL 2k5 for about three years. I'm still playing NBA 2k8 and College Hoops 2k8.

College Hoops2K8 by a landslide. I have been playing this one since day one and will continue to do so until either EA makes a suitable hoops equivalent or 2K makes another one....

I agree with you on The Show. Still going strong, playing at least a game a night, which is a lot for me. I just can't get enough of that game, I can definitely see myself playing the entire 162 game season.
However the game that has seen the most playing time for me would have to be NFL 2k5, I wouldn't say completely consecutive but it's been on and off since it's release.

Agreeing with JohnDoh, I played the hell out of MVP 05, except mine was on PS2. I could go back to Genesis days for some long relationships, but I was 12-13 and didn't buy my own games that often. When I had one football, one baseball, and one basketball game I was good from there on out.

Without a doubt it's NHL 09. I still play about 3 games a day/night, and a lot more when I'm playing online or with friends. I'll be playing until 10 comes out too.
The Show has nothing on NHL when it comes to replayability. Baseball games bore me after half a season, and I'm in about my 5th season in NHL.

Great question Chris.
I'd have to say NCAA Football 2004 for PS2, and MVP 05.
I played NCAA 04 for 24 straight months (as 05 was an abomination to the series), right up to the night before 06 was released. I was able to complete 15 years of dynasty mode over that span. No other NCAA title has ever been so engaging to me.
MVP 05 was played for 3 straight years until I picked up a 360 and MLB 2K7. I still play it off and on and am now in my 9th year of owner mode.

Would Madden NFL 07 still classify? The Madden series has pissed me off so much on the 360 that I picked up where I left off on the PS2. I am curently on year 24, playing 10 minute quarters on all-madden difficulty, and still using the vision cone! Plus, I always wanted to see what happens after you complete all 30 years of franchise mode. I'm imaging nothing.

I still play NBA 2K7 and Pro Evo Soccer 5! Because it just got worse and worse for both series.

I'm still playing NFL Head Coach 09 after getting it in about October. I'm just about done with season 7.

APF 2K8. Bought it when I got my 360 Feb '08. Played on and off for a year. Joined OS. Re-realized the greatness of APF. Been playing every night since Feb now (basiclly). Legends are timeless.

APF 2k8. I've been playing it since it came out with a few breaks. Usually I only play games for a few months or less.
