Is it time for “The Other Guy” yet? Stuck
Posted on October 9, 2012 at 01:33 PM.

Another week passes and, surprise, it’s another Jets’ loss.

On a national stage on Monday Night Football, the Jets lost again in a narrow defeat to the undefeated Houston Texans. The Jets were competitive throughout, but sealed the 23-17 loss with a Mark Sanchez interception in the fourth.

At 2-3, Rex Ryan might not be ready to pull the plug on his starting quarterback. As long as the Jets are within the AFC East, and currently they’re only a game back, Sanchez’s job will probably be safe against Tim Tebow.

However, is it time to just give Tim Tebow a chance?

Mark Sanchez might find his situation very similar to Kyle Orton. Six weeks into the season last year, Orton was benched after consistent and horrible play. When Tebow filled in for the Broncos, he went 7-4 as a starter to lead the Broncos to the playoffs.

Tebow, to be fair, had his fair share of ups and downs. Besides the media circus that was ESPN, Tebow played awful down the stretch to put the Broncos at an even 8-8. However, his performance against the Steelers showed flashes of brilliance.

Regardless whether you think Tebow will be a viable starting quarterback, Mark Sanchez hasn’t been any better.

This season Sanchez’s completion rate is at a league low 48.4 percent. He’s struggled in all areas of his game from getting the ball to receivers to red zone efficiency.

Perhaps what makes Sanchez the most Orton like is his predictability to fold. How many people saw the interception to Kareem Jackson coming?

If there is one thing Tim Tebow has going for him, it’s the aspect of unpredictability.

Tebow led the Broncos to game winning drives and miraculous comebacks, one that Mark Sanchez experienced firsthand. Teams now might have the solution for him, but that’s not entirely known yet.

The cloud of mystery over Tim Tebow on the Jets has got to go, and so does Mark Sanchez.

Do you think Tim Tebow should start? Let us know in the replies.

The Jets reached for Sanchez in the draft -- imposing franchise quarterback expectations on a quarterback who had only started one full season at the college level. It's TEBOW TIME!

I think everyone needs to realize that they didn't sign this guy to play. They got him to grab attention and make headlines. The Jets are just tired of having to play "little brother" to the Giants. Mark Sanchez, like it or not, is the better quarterback. By far. Remember, Sanchez has been to 2 AFC Championship games. Not too shabby.

Its not a dead season yet. Plus they just gave him a brand new deal. The Jets are financially committed to Sanchez and cannot turn their backs on him now.

Give him a shot. One thing Tebow is, he's a football player. He'll make plays and give the team excitement, just look at a 6-7 yard run, he's pumped and you can't tell me the Jets can't use some energy? Sanchez just drones out and fades, while Tebow will be there motivating and energizing the team.

Sanchez isnt a terrible QB, but hes playing bad and hes just fragile. Like anybody thought they would replicate the first game success. Sanchez has been doomed from the beginning. he might have even been better off if they would actually have used Tebow the way he could be from the beginning, and im not a fan of the two QB system, def not in the NFL. Give Tebow his shot, Sanchez feelings are already hurt anyway.

He may not be inherently better than Sanchez (though he's undoubtably a better deep thrower), but when he's on the field, the team plays better as a whole. Something changes when he walks on the field. The O-line plays harder, runningbacks fight for more yards, and the defense also plays better. The latter is probably moreso because Tebow's run game keeps the offense on the field longer and gives the D more rest, but yeah. The Jets have woes on the whole team, and thats why you start Tebow. In Denver, everybody played better once he walked onto the field.

Sanchez's QB rating from last night's game was, and I sh*t you not 66.6, so if that's not a Tebow now sign I m not sure what is unless a thunderbolt of lighting takes out Sanchez next week....

Anyone want to explain to me why the picture from the forum link to this article has Tebow wearing a #17 jersey with a captain patch on it?

The way I see it, Mark Sanchez was never allowed to develop like a true franchise QB should have been developed. The Jets had a very good defense, and Sanchez was forced to hand off and go to checkdowns if his first option wasn't open. It worked in that the Jets went to 2 consecutive AFC Championship Games, but that "success" ******** his growth as QB.

Now, in Year 4, people are shocked that Sanchez hasn't a clue how to lead his team to victory via his arm. Sanchez was never forced to throw the ball early and often enough like Roethlisberger, Eli or Peyton Manning, Matthew Stafford, or Andy Dalton. Sanchez didn't get to suffer through those 20+ INT seasons that some of the others did which helped them learn the NFL game. Not screwing up was more important, and when he reaches outside of that box, of course he's going to have more failure than success.

If he gets to go to another team that has a QB guru who will let him work through that, he could rebound to be a success. Otherwise, he's destined to be tossed to the scrap heap as a bust. Though one I think was mishandled by Rex Ryan and the Jets.

Now that the best players on both sides of the ball are hurt I think you give him the nod. But doing that will cause Sanchez to be let go

Yes, start him. The jest aren't going anywhere with or without him so what difference does it make.

The Jets took the Jets to 2 AFCC games. Not Sanchez. Sanchez played an important but small role in their play off success. Those two Jets teams were built on the running game and good defense. Last year and this year they have neither.

The Jets have lost Allen Fanica and Damian Woody from that offensive line and have yet to find a replacement. They lost Tony Richardson, and while John Conner isn't bad, he isn't even a shadow of Richardson. They also lost Thomas Jones. Tomlinson simply didn't work out. He wasn't bad, but he wasn't good either. Those are a lot of losses to deal with. Three years ago the jets lead the NFL in rushing with 172ypg. Last year they were ranked 22nd with 105 ypg. So far this year they are ranked 25th with 83ypg. The Jets were once able to hide Sanchize behind the running game to give him time to develop. Not only can they no longer do this, but Sanchez has also failed to develop.

Then there is that "great defense" that was ranked in the top 10 of run defenses in 2009, ranked 3rd in 2010, fell down to 13th in 2011, and is now ranked 31st.

There is no ground and pound. There is no "great defense" for them to play and rely on. This isn't Mark's fault. The Jets are a bad team again... and thanks to injury, they have gotten worse.

Tebow isn't going to fix this mess, nor is it Sanchez's fault.

Starting Tim Tebow is admitting that the NY Jets season is a wash. Which, to an outside observer, that might very well be the case. But let's not forget something. Tim Tebow might have led the Broncos to game-winning drives, but only after going 3-and-out repeatedly throughout a game and having a defense keep him in it.

If you put in Tim Tebow, you're admitting that Mark Sanchez is done in NY. You're committing yourself to a run-option offense.

Can't hurt to put him in. Tebow takes so much flack for his passing, but Sanchez is posting QBR numbers that I didn't think were possible. 5 games under a 5 rating in his career? Wow that's bad. Sure, both those picks were tipped balls the other day, but neither was a good throw by any means, and he's had tons and tons of picks that are so bad you would think he intentionally threw them. Seems like the guy has a pick-six every other week.
