HAPPEL, CP3 NAMED PLAYERS OF THE WEEKOrlando, FL (AP) - Another week in the NBA, another award for Magic forward Brian Happel. Happel was named the Eastern Conference's Player of the Week for the week of November 11-17.
Happel jammed the ball down the throat of every single opponent this week
To say he was a force this week would be an understatement. Happel averaged a shade over 46 points per game. He also grabbed 12 rebounds a game and collected 2.3 steals per game. Happel led his Magic to 3 wins, all blowouts, and had Orlando just a shot away from beating Atlanta.
VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: Happel was "en fuego," pouring in shots from just about everywhere on the floor
Happel also set several Orlando team records when he scored 67 points at home against the Magic's hated rivals, the Boston Celtics. Oh and by the way, the Magic forward only managed to hit on 71% of his shots from the field, including 8-14 (57%) from long range.
Chris Paul led New Orleans to 3 double-digit wins
Hornets Point Guard Chris Paul was named the Western Conference Player of the Week. He nearly averaged a triple-double for the week, averaging 22.3 points per game, 8.7 rebounds per game and 9.7 assists per game. He also was a force on defense, averaging 4.0 steals a game for the week.

ORLANDO STAYS HOT ON THE ROAD, CUTTING DOWN NETS
Rutherford, NJ (AP) - Once again, the Magic looked like they were playing in the perfect trap game. One night after dismantling their rivals, the Boston Celtics, Orlando was on the road in New Jersey for what looked to be an easy second half of a back-to-back. Then, came that sluggish start in the first quarter. But, a 16-6 run in the second quarter, on top of a 19-5run in the third quarter, propelled the Magic to an easy 107-79 victory. The Nets started off well, getting out to a 26-23 lead after one. But, New Jersey trailed off quickly, shooting under 30% in the second quarter, which helped spark the big run by Orlando.
Arenas looks on as Happel takes his pass to complete the nice alley-oop dunk
Magic Forward Brian Happel played well, though considering the way he's been playing, it was a bit of a down night. Happel finished with 29 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. This - after going for 52 and 67 points the last 2 games. He also addded two steals and two blocks, contributing significantly to the defensive effort. One play in particular was the epitome of turning good defense into better offense: Happel poked the ball away from New Jersey's Murrow, then bolted down the middle of the court. Washington picked up the steal - then chucked it deep for the "showtime" dunk on the other end.
VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: Happel gets rewarded for his good defense with an easy, highlight slam on the other end
It's plays like that which have Happel and his team running on all cylinders, "My teammates have been great, getting me the ball when I get hot, and even still looking for me when my shot's not falling. I think I've shown that I can score some points, so it's nice to feel like my teammates respect that enough to keep me really involved in things on offense." Gilbert Arenas found Happel and his other teammates as well, dishing out 8 assists and scoring 17 points. Andray Blatche and Stephen Jackson added 19 and 15 points, respectively, while Dwight Howard gobbled up 14 boards.
Happel turning yet another player into a poster shot with this powerful dunk
For the Nets, they had 5 players score in double-figures. The problem is, Theodore Wise was the team's high scorer with just 12 points. Wise added 6 assists, but turned the ball over 4 times. Second year guard Andrea Oliverio came out firing, scoring 10 points in just 8 minutes. It was a disappointing night for Brook Lopez, who could only manage 10 points and 4 rebounds in 38 minutes. Overall, turnovers and shooting were the two big storylines in this contest. Orlando shot 53% from the field, while New Jersey could only connect on 44% of its shots. And, the Nets doubled up the Magic in turnovers - giving the ball away 17 times compared to just 8 turnovers for Orlando. The Magic, now 8-2 on the season, get a day off before welcoming New Orleans to the Amway Center.

BOSTON FEELING GREEN AFTER ORLANDO BEAT DOWN
Orlando, FL (AP) - If you want to look up the definition of domination, just head to the dictionary and look under "Orlando Magic." See also, "Brian Happel." Orlando destroyed the Celtics, and their will, in a 105-71 laugher. This one wasn't even close early on. The Magic jumped out to a 13-0 lead and started the game on a 33-6 run. Orlando ended up shooting an amazing 73% from the field, connecting on 17-23 shots, including 4-5 from behind the arc, all en route to a 41-13 lead at the end of just one quarter. From there, Orlando just kept on cruising.
VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: Happel was on fire from behind the three-point line, hitting all 5 shots.
Magic Forward Brian Happel was equally dominant. He set a number of team records on this mid-November night: most points in a regular season game (67), most field goals made in a regular season game (28), most points in a quarter in a regular season game (29), most points in a half in a regular season game (43), most field goals made in a quarter (12), and most field goals made in a half (17). It was a tough night for Tracy McGrady and Shaquille O'Neal - as Happel erased both of their names from the record books, "It's something to be proud of for sure. To be up there at the top of the list of some pretty impressive players that have been here before me is a great honor. I never really thought of myself as being in that class. Now I just hope I can stay hot and turn that into some wins for this team."
Happel would not be denied, here getting the hoop and the harm against Garnett and Pierce
Overall, Happel finished with 67 points, 15 rebounds and 5 three-pointers. The rest of his teammates didn't contribute much in the points column, as nobody else scored in double-figures. However, Dwight Howard did pull down 13 rebounds and handed out 6 assists. Gilbert Arenas also distributed the ball well, dishing out 7 dimes.
Happel and his teammates showed plenty of heart in this one, tearing up Boston all night long
Second year shooting guard Murray Christie led Boston in scoring with 18 points on 8-15 shooting. Paul Pierce added 17 points, including 3-7 from long distance. Glen "Big Baby" Davis also played relatively well, scoring 11 points and collecting 7 boards. However, he only shot 4-14 from the field.
VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: Happel was taking it strong to the basket all night, connecting on a number of "And 1's"
Shooting was clearly a big key in this game. Orlando shot 51 percent from the floor overall, while the C's could only hit on 35% of their shots. The Magic were also deadly from long range, making 7-12 bombs. Again, Boston came up short, only connecting on 5-18 from behind the arc. And, Orlando won the rebounding battle, outrebounding the Celtics 53-37. The Magic improved to 7-2 with the win. The blowout will be a big help for Orlando, as its starters were able to get some rest. They now go on the road for their second back-to-back of the week, traveling to New Jersey later tonight.

THE BUCKS STOP HERE - ORLANDO WINS LAUGHER
Milwaukee, WI (AP) - This game had all the makings of a trap game for the Magic. Then they got on the court and played the game. So much for that. Orlando picks up an easy road win, destroying Milwaukee 111-74. The Magic were looking to bounce back after a tough loss at home against Atlanta tonight, and bounce back they did. Orlando dominated shooting the ball, hitting on 55% of its shots, while holding the Bucks to just 35% from the field, including a miserable 3-24 from three-point range. Orlando star Brian Happel said after the game this was the kind of effort he was looking for, "It was really a team effort out there, and those are the best kind of wins. I'm hoping we can use this as a momentum builder to keep up this kind of play moving forward."
VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: Happel goes "dunk-wild" on Milwaukee with 7 dunks
Happel dominated offensively for the Magic. He scored a whopping 52 points on 23-30 shooting from the field. Happel also added 12 rebounds and 4 assists just for good measure. Andray Blatche added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, and DeJuan Blair grabbed 10 boards off the bench. In all, four Magic players scored in double-figures. The bench also managed to put up 23 points in the win.
Bogut and the Bucks were showing Happel a way to the basket all night, as he scored 52 points
As for the Bucks, Brett Atkins scored a season-high 20 points to lead the way. Brandon Jennings added 14 points, but was only 5-25 shooting from the field, including 0-7 from behind the arc. However, he did dish out 6 assists.
Happel put on a dunk contest of sorts, throwing down 9 of them on the Bucks
One of the side stories in this was rebounding. Orlando dramatically outrebounded Milwaukee, nearly doubling them up, grabbing 61 rebounds compared to the Bucks getting just 33. The Magic also did a better job sharing the basketball, collecting 24 assists, while Milwaukee had just 13 dimes. Orlando will get a couple days off now before welcoming their rivals, the Boston Celtics, to the Amway Center on Friday night.

ORLANDO BLOWS LEAD LATE, LOSES TO HAWKS
VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: Happel finding ways to get to the basket strong all game against the Hawks
Orlando, FL (AP) - It's not like it's exactly time to panic in Orlando. But, last night's 92-90 loss to Atlanta was as frustrating as it was disturbing. It's truly the first close game the Magic have blown when heading into the fourth quarter with the lead. Typically, Orlando blows its opponents out of the water, turning a close game into a laugher by the time the final buzzer sounds. This one, not so much. Orlando held the lead until the 3:00 mark, when a jumper put Atlanta ahead for good. Magic sharp shooter Brian Happel missed on a couple of back-to-back three-point attempts, and the Hawks did not miss foul shots with the game on the line. "We just didn't finish, plain and simple," said Happel, "We didn't make the plays down the stretch that we usually make, and that's disappointing. We had a lead, and we let it slip away. This one will bother us for a while."
Happel was trying to establish his game above the rim early, getting some big air on Atlanta
Happel played a great all-around game. He scored 37 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Happel was also a force on defense, stealing the ball 4 times and blocking three shots. However, he also turned the ball over four times, which was a season high. Happel did not get a lot of help. Andray Blatch played well, contributing a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds. But Stephen Jackson was the only other Magic player to score in double figures, he finished with 12 points.
Happel has shown he is not afraid to go strong to the basket, here dunking on 3 Hawks in the lane
Joe Johnson led the way for the Hawks. He poured in 27 points. Johnson was one of 5 Atlanta players who scored in double-figures. Jamal Crawford was solid off the bench, netting 11 points in just 19 minutes. Phil Ryan also played well, scoring 15 points, grabbing 6 rebounds and dishing out 6 assists.
Happel collecting one of his three blocks against the Hawks
Neither team shot the ball particularly well, hovering around 40% from the field on both sides. Atlanta managed to outscore Orlando in the second half by a count of 59-44. Up next for the Magic: a quick road trip tonight to Milwaukee.

MAGIC USE 4TH QUARTER SPURT TO BEAT MAVS
VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: Happel takes to the sky for an alley-oop-a-thon
Orlando, FL - Other than the first loss of the season at Washington, this may be the toughest Orlando's been pushed, so far. Dallas managed to hang with the Magic for much of the game, in fact taking a slim lead into the fourth quarter. However, Orlando stepped on the gas once again, outscoring the Mavericks 29-16 in the final frame to win the game relatively comfortably, 98-87. And, it had as much to do with the Magic winning it as it did Dallas losing it. Orlando shot 52% in that last quarter, while the Mavs could only hit on a measely 27%. "One of the things I'm learing very quickly here is this team's ability to perform in the cluch," said guard Stephen Jackson, "We don't care what the score is. When it's the fourth quarter, we kick it up another notch."
Happel was able to reach back and pull out something special all game long
Orlando was led by swingman Brian Happel, who scored 32 points, including 23 in the first half. He was just lights out from the field, connecting on 12-14 overall. He also got to the foul line, hitting all 7 shots he took. It was another day at the office for Dwight Howard, who scored 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Stephen Jackson contributed 17 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals. And point guard Gilbert Arenas handed out 8 assists. Happel is impressed with how his team is going right now, "Everything just seems to be clicking right now and we need to figure out why so we can keep things going the way they are."
It didn't matter if he was open or not, Happel was on fire, hitting on 12-14 FG
Vince Carter continues to do well against his former team, pouring in 19 points and getting 8 boards. He did not have a whole lot of support otherwise, with Dirk Nowitzki not getting much in the way of offensive opportunities. Nowitzki scored just 10 points on 5-10 shooting, though he did grab 13 rebounds. The bench did its job, outscoring Orlando 28-8. But, it was not nearly enough.
Happel let the home crowd know what he thought about them
The Magic continue their trend of getting to the line more often than they did last year, taking 21 shots from the charity stripe against the Mavs, making 18. Orlando's defense was also solid, forcing 11 Dallas turnovers. Next week, the Magic have to work through two back-to-back's, both starting at home and ending on the road.

MAGIC CRUSH CAVS, WIN 4TH STRAIGHT
VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: Happel getting HUGE air on dunk after dunk!
Orlando, FL (AP) - Beware the second half. That's just a warning for all of you teams out there in the NBA that are preparing for the Magic. Many teams have not heeded that warning, and they have paid with severe beatings. That again was the case last night at the Amway Center, as Orlando utterly destroyed Cleveland 114-78. Once again, it was somewhat of a close game at halftime. The Cavs trailed by just 6 points, and the Magic didn't seem to be playing particularly well. But then Orlando decided to really start playing. The Magic outscored their opponents 66-36 in the second half. They shot an amazing 60 percent. Cleveland suddenly couldn't put the ball in the ocean, connecting on just 28 percent of its shots after the break.
Happel was really playing above the rim, here getting high enough to hit his head on the backboard
The Magic were led by their star forward, Brian Happel, who put up some huge numbers, including a triple-double. Happel scored 32 points, grabbed 10 boards and handed out 11 dimes. He also got to the charity stripe a lot, hitting on 7-8 shots. Afterwards, Happel was beaming with confidence, saying there's plenty more where that came from, "Get ready for more. I've got plenty more tricks up my sleeve that you ain't even seen yet, so just you wait. We're only now just starting to get interesting."
Happel showing off his defensive skills, blocking a Cavs shot here. Happel finished with 2 blocks and 2 steals.
Happel wasn't alone in having a big game. Dwight Howard dominated down low, scoring 19 points and collecting a game-high 14 rebounds. DeJuan was also a rebounding force, picking up 10 boards in 24 minutes. Gilbert Arenas and Stephen Jackson added 25 points from the guard positions and John Salmons came off the bench to get 10 points in just 13 minutes. Six Magic players scored in double-figures. For Cleveland, Jason Thompson filled up the stat sheet with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Mo Williams added 15 points, but only shot 4-15 from the field.
VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: A slo-mo look at Happel getting big air against Cleveland
Shooting - in terms of percentage and quality shots, was the difference maker in this game. Orlando shot 50% from the field overall, while holding the Cavs to just 32%. The Magic were getting quality looks close to the basket all game long, while Cleveland settled for jumper after jumper. Orlando was also more physical, getting to the foul line for 27 shots, nearly double the amount the Cavaliers got. And, the Magic outrebounded the Cavs 55-43. Orlando gets a few days off before continuing its homestand against Dallas.

HAPPEL, WESTBROOK NAMED PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Orlando, FL (AP) - The hardware keeps piling up for Orlando Forward Brian Happel. He was named the Eastern Conference's player of the week for the first full week of the regular season.
Happel's high-flying act was enough to earn him a Player of the Week award
Happel led the Magic to a 2-1 record in the first week of the season. He averaged 37 points per game, 10.7 rebounds per game and 5 assists per game, including a career-high 12 assists against Charlotte. He also shot 65% from the floor and 56% from long range.
Oklahoma City has something to be proud of: Westbrook named Player of the Week
Oklahoma City guard Russell Westbrook was named the Western Conference's Player of the Week. He led the Thunder to a 3-1 record. Westbrook averaged 23.8 points per game, 6.3 assists per game and 2.8 steals per game. He also shot 90% from the free throw line, hitting on 37-41 shots.

ORLANDO COASTS TO EASY WIN ON THE ROAD
Toronto, Ontario (AP) - Orlando's offense is starting to feel the "magic touch," with another blowout win on the road, this time smacking down the Raptors 114-81. This one was never close. The Magic opened up a 29-16 first quarter lead in Toronto, and that's the closest it would get the rest of the game. Orlando shot the ball incredibly well, hitting on 59% of their shots from the field. And, the defense stepped up as well, holding the Raptors to just 36% shooting for the game. All five starters for the Magic scored in double-figures.
Happel showing off his leaping skills while all alone on the fast break
The offense was, once again, led by forward Brian Happel. He was just on fire, there really is no other way to put it. Happel scored 43 points on 18-21 shooting from the floor, meaning he's connected on a mind-boggling 36-43 shots over the last two games. That's good for 84%, "It's really quite easy when you have teammates like mine and a coaching staff like the one we have here. When all the pieces fall into place like that, scoring the points just becomes a formality." Happel also grabbed 14 rebounds and dished out 5 assists. Dwight Howard and Andray Blatche were solid down low. Howard nearly had a triple-double, scoring 18 points, collecting 8 boards and dishing out 7 assists. Blatche poured in 19 points on 8-12 shooting from the field.
For Toronto, Leandro Barbosa led the offense with 21 points. Andrea Bargnani also chipped in 19 points, and point guard Jesse Delk collected a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists. In addition to the shooting, the Magic outdid the Raptors in a few other key stats. Orlando did a better job finding the open man, gathering 27 assists, compared to Toronto's 15. And the Magic also outrebounded the Raptors to the tune of 49-37. The blowout will likely prove helpful to Orlando, as the team was able to rest some of its starters ahead of tomorrow night's second half of the back-to-back. The Magic welcome the Cavaliers to the Amway Center.

MAGIC WIN HOME OPENER WITH STRONG SECOND HALF
Orlando, FL (AP) - On a night where the team and its fans celebrated a championship, Orlando made sure to send everyone home happy, beating Philadelphia 105-93 in the home opener for the Magic. It was a frustrating first half for Orlando, which also struggled against another lowly team, the Wizards, in the team's season opener. But, the Magic really turnred it on in the second half. Orlando used a 15-4 run to close out the third quarter, giving the team an eight point lead going into the final quarter. The Magic then used a 12-4 run midway through the fourth to grab a 15 point lead, never looking back.
VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: Happel turns defense into easy instant offense
Orlando Forward Brian Happel put on quite a performance, scoring 41 points on 18-22 shooting. He also grabbed 12 rebounds and stole the ball three times. Dwight Howard also came up big for Orlando, pouring in 25 points. And, Gilbert Arenas is doing a great job so far finding the open man. The Magic point guard collected 14 assists in this contest.
Happel was really lighting up Philly, especially thanks to a nice assists on this alley-oop from Arenas
The Sixers played well, just not well enough, especially in the second half. Andre Iguodala led Philly in scoring with 20 points. Bobby Lindsey turned in a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Evan Turner also played well for the 76ers, scoring 18 points on 7-15 shooting. Philadelphia is off to a really rough start, losing its first four games.
Evan Turner getting swatted away like a fly by Happel
As for the Magic, they've won their last two games and have a couple days off before a back-to-back early next week against Toronto and Cleveland. Happel knows just how important it is for the team to get its rest, even early in the season, "I think Coach has a pretty good handle on this team, and if he sees that we're worn down during a long road trip or after a back-to-back, he'll give us a day off."
Turner finds out why you can't leave Happel this wide open behind the arc

ORLANDO TAMES BOBCATS WITH PRECISION SHOOTING
Charlotte, NC (AP) - This is more like the team Magic fans grew to love last season. After getting dismantled in their season opener at Washington, Orlando flipped the script very nicely in Charlotte, blowing out the Bobcats 116-86. The Magic used a very precise attack on offense, shooting the lights out, especially in the second half. Orlando shot 57% from the floor for the game, while Charlotte could only manage to connect on 37% of its shots. Magic forward Brian Happel said afterwards the team really needed to play a game like this, after laying such a big egg against the Wizards, "It was a great game, for sure. Everybody's always in a good mood in the locker room when you come out and make a statement like that."
Happel was playing above the rim for most of the game against Charlotte
Happel put together his typically strong performance. "The Captain" just missed out on a triple-double, scoring 34 points, grabbing 9 rebounds and dishing out a career-high 12 assists. Happel got plenty of support from his teammates. All five starters scored in double-figures. DeJuan Blair was also strong off the bench, scoring 9 points and collecting 9 boards. Andray Blatch was a perfect 7-7 from the field on his way to 14 points and 8 boards.
Happel with the hoop and the harm, taking it strong to the bucket all night
Tyrus Thomas and Gerald Wallace were very effective on the offensive end for Charlotte, scoring 24 and 21 points, respectively. But, they didn't get much help. Nobody else scored in double figures. D.J. Augustin struggled mightily, going just 2-15 from the field. Jameer Nelson played his first game against his former team and struggled as well, scoring just 8 points on 2-10 shooting, including 0-5 from long range. Nelson and Chris Duhon were traded to the Bobcats in the offseason for Stephen Jackson.
Happel and the Magic challenged Charlotte shots all game, holding the team to 37% shooting
Orlando really stepped on the gas in the second half. The Magic outscored the Bobcats 32-16 in the third quarter, turning a four-point halftime advantage to a 20 point lead going into the fourth quarter. Orlando just kept pouring it on from there, said Happel, "We came to play tonight and never let down. It's really nice to see our hard work rewarded with a win like this." The Magic shared the basketball well, dishing out 30 assists, comapred to Charlotte's 11. Orlando managed to blow the Bobcats out, despite Charlotte having a huge advantage from the line, connecting on 26-28 shots from the charity stripe. The Magic only went 9-13 from the free throw line. Up next for Orlando: a trip home to face Philadelphia, and watch the franchise's first NBA Championship banner get lifted into the rafters.

ORLANDO LACKS MAGIC TOUCH, LOSES SEASON OPENER
Washington, D.C. (AP) - The champs had a tough start to the season, losing in a big way on the road against Washington. Orlando struggled throughout, and the Wizards were simply too hot offensively, blowing out the Magic 111-91 in the season opener for both teams. Orlando was only down by three points at halftime. But, Washington outscored the Magic 29-15 in the third quarter to put this one out of reach.
Happel got things started right for Orlando with this early dunk
Magic forward Brian Happel came to play, scoring 36 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. However, he did struggle a bit more from the field than he is accustomed to, shooting 16-28 from the field and just 1-4 from long distance. Andray Blatche contributed a double-double in his first game with Orlando, scoring 14 points and collecting 11 rebounds. Dwight Howard also had a double-double with 13 points and 14 boards. Gilbert Arenas did not shoot the ball well, going 2-10 from the field (1-7 from behind the arc), but he did find his teammates all night, dishing out 12 assists.
Happel was pumped to start the season, but he certainly wasn't feeling that way after his team lost by 20
Washington had a very balanced attack. Six Wizards scored in double figures. One of the biggest stats of the game: the bench play. Washington outscored Orlando 46-6. Archie Bremer led the attack for the Wizards, scoring 21 points on 8-16 shooting. John Wall also nearly had a triple double, with 11 points, 9 rebounds and 13 assists.
VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: HAPPEL'S HIGH-FLYING ATTACK
The regular season may just be getting underway, but Orlando is not messing around. Brian Happel was among those who wanted to fix the team's problems right away, "Me and a couple of the other guys decided to call a players only meeting, and we basically laid out what went wrong and what we need to do to fix it. None of us want to be losing games like that." Up next for Orlando - another road contest, this time in Charlotte. Then, the Magic come back to Orlando for their home opener, where they'll raise their NBA Championship banner and get their rings.
