Josh Johnson Struck Out Ten Batter and Bautista and Lawrie Combined To Power The Offense
Johnson Strikes Out Ten, Lawrie and Bautista Homer In Jays Win
LOS ANGELES -- Josh Johnson had a big smile on his face while walking out of the Blue Jays clubhouse in Los Angeles after his team defeated the Los Angeles Angels by a narrow margin of 2-1. According to manager John Gibbons, it couldn’t have been done without him.“Josh threw the ball real well today. He had superb command of his fastball and his offspeed and breaking pitches. You can tell by the ten strikeouts he had.” said Gibbons. Johnson struck out ten batters in a solid eight innings of work before he handed the ball over to Blue Jays closer Casey Janssen, who pitched a quick bottom of the ninth for his eleventh save of the season.
It was a very quiet game on the offensive side of the ball as the two teams combined for just three runs on a total of twelve hits. However, seven of the twelve combined hits in the game were extra-base hits. Jose Bautista hit his ninth home run of the season and Brett Lawrie drove in the winning run with his fourth home run of the season to lead the offense for the Blue Jays. Howie Kendrick had an RBI double that drove in the only run of the game for the Angels, who have lost three of their last four ball games to the Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays continue their west coast road trip as they stop by O.co Coliseum for a quick two game series against the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday. Ricky Romero will make his second start of the season and will be opposed by big righty Bartolo Colon.

Clarke MacArthur Celebrates The Game's Only Goal
MacArthur, Leafs Sneak Past Jets On The Road
WINNIPEG -- The Maple Leafs are officially on a role. After beating the Philadelphia Flyers at home, the Leafs headed onto the road to take on the Winnipeg Jets. Both goalies played a spectacular game, putting on a show for the crowd at the MTS Center.
Clarke MacArthur scored the lone goal of the game when he can down the right side boards. MacArthur then crossed up Jets defenseman Zach Bogosian when he cut to the middle of the ice before burying the puck past Jets goaltender Al Montoya. The Maple Leafs lead looked like it was going to be short-lived after the Jets found themselves with what they thought was the tying goal after captain Andrew Ladd tipped a point shot past goaltender Ben Scrivens. The referee then immediately waved off the goal and after a quick look at the video review, deemed that it was tipped in by a high stick.
That would be the only legit scoring chance that the Jets would get as Scrivens and the Leafs defensive core, led by captain Dion Phaneuf shut down the Jets and limited them to only 19 shots the entire game. Scriven’s shutout was the second of his career as well as the second of this season.
Winnipeg Jets coach had the following to say about the game, “I feel like our team loss because I made the wrong decision as to who to put in net. I’m not discouraging Monty [Montoya] but if I had put Pavy [Ondrej Pavalec] in net, he may have been able to stop that shot. Definitely a tough loss though.”
The win pushes the Leafs to 13-7-1 this season and they will take on the rival Montreal Canadiens on the road at the Bell Center this Saturday. The game will be aired live on CBC’s Hockey Night In Canada.

Injuries Go Throughout The Blue Jays System
LOS ANGELES -- After watching Blue Jays starter Brandon Morrow walk off the field with an apparent arm injury, Toronto Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos got some more injury news, this time from the trainers in Double-A New Hampshire.
Rick Brenner, general manager of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats called to inform Anthopoulos that pitching prospect Matt Smoral has left his start last night with the Fisher Cats in the third inning and after undergoing an MRI in Dunedin, it has been determined that Smoral has a shoulder tear and is expected to miss two to three months. "Rick called just to let me know about the situation with Smoral and about who we would promote to New Hampshire to take Matt's [Smoral] spot on the roster." said Anthopoulos.
But first, Anthopoulos will have to deal with the big issue: Brandon Morrow. It was announced this morning that Morrow is expected to miss one to two weeks an arm injury and has been placed on the 15-day disabled list. Anthopoulos did not release the severity of the injury but did state that Morrow was experiencing some "forearm tightness" on his pitching arm.
In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays have called up righthander Drew Hutchison from Triple-A Buffalo. Hutchison started some games with the Blue Jays last season before starting the 2012 season in Triple-A after the Blue Jays' blockbuster trades that filled the rotation. Southpaw Ricky Romero and Drew Hutchison will likely be compared for the fifth starter's spot in the rotation when Morrow returns from his injury.
The Blue Jays continue their four game set against the Los Angeles Angels tonight with Mark Buehrle going up against Jason Vargas in Los Angeles, CA. Game start is at 10:05 PM ET.

Kyle Lowry Drive Past A 76ers Defender For The Layup
Raptors Need OT, Beat 76ers By Seven
TORONTO -- Nobody thought (well at least I didn't) that the Toronto Raptors would be able to pull out a win against the Philadelphia 76ers at home at the Air Canada Center last night. But guess what they did? Win.
Rudy Gay had a game high 37 points in the victory thanks mainly in part to the seventeen assists that the Raptors dished out for the small forward. Point guard Kyle Lowry had eighteen points of his own, but was overshadowed by the performance of Andrea Bargnani.
Bargnani, the former first overall pick by the Raptors, has turned in yet another dismal performance on the court, scoring only two points recording one turnover. There has been many rumors that are spreading quickly saying that either Bargnani wants out of Toronto, or the Toronto management has lost its patience with him.
Jrue Holiday led the offense for the struggling 76ers, recording 22 points to go along with his seven assists and five rebounds.
Raptors head coach Dwayne Casey weighed in on Rudy Gay's offensive outburst. "They [Philadelphia] just couldn't contain him [Gay]. He's been playing really well the past few games and the fact that he finally burst out is a great sign for us [the team]."
Philadelphia falls to .500 at 3-3 following the loss to the Raptors and the Raptors improve their record to 4-2 to start the season. The Raptors have a couple of days off before the Utah Jazz come into town.

Raptors Acquire Asik From Rockets
TORONTO -- The Toronto Raptors have announced that they have swung a deal with the Houston Rockets. The Raptors have acquired center Omer Asik in exchange for small forward Mickael Pietrus and center Aaron Gray.
Asik is seven foot tall and is expected to slide into the starting lineup at the center position. The deal really benefits the Raptors as they add some much needed front-court size while giving up virtually nothing. Pietrus had no role with the Raptors after have Rudy Gay and Landry Fields take up the small forward role and the duo of Demar Derozan and Terrence Ross taking up Pietrus' secondary position. Gray is replaced by Asik so the Raptors didn't lose anything.
The Raptors are at home to play against the Philadelphia 76ers tomorrow evening at the Air Canada Center. You can catch the game live on TSN and TSN2 at 7:00 PM ET.
