Mothers Day Fireworks, Jays Slug Their Way To Victory
MINNESOTA -- With the pink bats honoring mothers all around the world, the Blue Jays hit five home runs to win their four game set against the Minnesota Twins. Rich Harden wasn’t feeling the motherly love, as he started the game on a very rough note. Harden allowed back to back home runs to Jose Reyes and Colby Rasmus to lead off the game. Jose Bautista would reach on a walk but Harden would be able to get Jays slugger Edwin Encarnacion to ground into the double play. Adam Lind would hit his third homerun of the season to cap off an explosive first inning.Southpaw Ricky Romero had a decent outing, his third since being recalled from Triple-A Buffalo. The former first round pick of the Blue Jays threw 91 pitches in his outing, recording nine strikeouts and two runs on three hits. The two runs both came in the bottom of the third inning, when he started the inning by walking former Blue Jays farmhand Darin Mastrioanni. Three pitches later, Jamey Carroll doubled to the wall, allowing the speedy Mastrioanni to score from first base. With Carroll advancing to third on the throw to the plate, all-star catcher Joe Mauer would groundout to second baseman Emilio Bonifacio, allowing Carroll to score from third.
That would be all the Twins hitters would get though, as Romero would bounce back and shutdown the Twins for the next three innings. Jose Bautista hit his 11th homerun of the season off of Harden in the top of the third inning before the Twins managed to score their only two runs of the ballgame. Things would stay the same for both teams, with Esmil Rogers, Sergio Santos, and veteran Darren Oliver all coming out of the bullpen for the Jays and pitching shutout outings.
Luis Perdomo would enter the ballgame for the Twins with two out in the fifth inning. He would do a stellar job until the top of the ninth inning, when he served up Adam Lind’s second homerun of the game and fourth of the season. He would be replaced by Rafael Perez following the solo blast. Lind had the following to say about his two homer game, “I just tried to put the ball in play, and voila! It goes over the wall for a homerun.” he said with a chuckle. Twins long time manager Ron Gardenhire didn’t find the home runs to funny, saying “someone must’ve forgotten to tell them the home run derby is later.”
The Blue Jays head back home to the Rogers Center to take on the Tampa Bay Rays, who are trailing the Jays and Yankees in third place in the American League East Standings.

Jays Top Twins In High Scoring Affair, Gose Injured
MINNESOTA -- The Toronto Blue Jays piled hit after hit in their 8-5 win over the Minnesota Twins in game three of their four game set at Target Field. Both teams finished with 14 hits in the ballgame, concluding to eight runs for the Jays and five runs for the Twins. The Blue Jays got off to a fast start as they managed to send seven batters up to the plate in the top of the first inning, leading to an Edwin Encarnacion home run that would score Colby Rasmus to give the Jays a quick two run lead against former Mets pitcher Mike Pelfrey (2-2). Josh Johnson (5-2) would quickly give the Twins one run back as back to back singles by Jamey Carroll and Eduardo Escobar would give the Twins runners on first and second. All-star catcher Joe Mauer would capitalize, lining the third pitch of the at-bat into right field for an RBI single that would score Carroll from second base.
The Blue Jays however, didn’t let that faze them, as they managed to score another two runs as Emilio Bonifacio would single to lead off the inning. Bonifacio would move up to second base on a base hit by freshly called up outfielder Anthony Gose, who was making his season debut with the team. Bonifacio would steal third base for his 21st stolen base of the season. Things didn’t go as smoothly for Gose, as he was picked off by Pelfrey for the first out of the inning at first base. Gose would steal second base in the fourth inning, but left the game with what appeared to be a shoulder injury. Jose Reyes would promptly double on the next pitch, scoring Bonifacio from third with ease.
The Blue Jays would go on the score four more runs in the next 1 ⅔ innings, giving them a comfy 7-1 lead. Josh Johnson was cruising along until the Twins scored in the fourth and sixth inning. “JJ [Johnson] had a pretty good game. He had great command of his fastball.” said Jays catcher Josh Thole, who picked up an RBI on his groundout in the top of the eighth inning.
The Twins managed to make it interesting for the Jays, as they slowly started to mount a comeback. Down 8-3 entering the bottom of the ninth inning, center fielder Joe Benson hit a sacrifice fly to center fielder Colby Rasmus that allowed the hero from yesterday night, Wilkin Ramirez, to score. Being a 8-4 game, Brian Dozier, who advanced to third base on Benson’s sacrifice fly, scored easily on Eduardo Escobar’s triple. That was as close as the Twins would get though, as Mickey Storey would work out of the jam, keeping Escobar at third to end the ballgame.
The Jays will try to go for the series win tomorrow with lefty Ricky Romero (1-1) going up against former Athletics pitcher Rich Harden (2-1).

Collison, Mavs Agree To Extension
The Dallas Mavericks and point guard Darren Collison have agreed to a four year contract extension that is reportedly worth $30.74 million dollars. The guard out of UCLA has had a decent season so far, which is likely why the Mavericks want to lock him up early.
Kenyon Martins Wants Out of NY?
It has been reported lately that Knicks power forward Kenyon Martin wants to be traded out of the New York Knicks organization. Martin refused to answer questions about the rumor saying that "It will sort it self out". Martin signed a new contract with the Knicks during the offseason.
Clippers Shopping Hill?
The Los Angeles Clippers are reportedly exploring the market for veteran Grant Hill. The former first round pick has yet to meet expectations in Los Angeles, which is likely why he is being shopped around. The same report also stated that there seems to be "No takers or suitors" for Hill.
Mavs Looking To Unload Morrow?
There have been multiple reports that have been issued that state that the Dallas Mavericks are "actively shopping" shooting guard Anthony Morrow. Morrow has under-achieved this season, making his a realistic trade target as well as someone that the Mavericks may want to get rid of.

James Van Riemsdyk and Carey Price watch a Jake Gardiner shot find the back of the net
Reimer Sharp As Leafs Top Habs In Rivalry
MONTREAL -- Whenever these two teams face off, it’s always as if someone has lit a fire under them. This time, the Toronto Maple Leafs’ fire was much bigger than their rival Montreal Canadiens was. James Reimer led the Leafs to their fifth straight win as the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Montreal Canadiens 4-1 at the Bell Center in front of a sold out crowd of Canadiens fans, all who went home upset.Joe Colborne opened the scoring for the Leafs with his first goal of the season three minutes past the halfway point of the first period as he tipped in a Carl Gunnarsson shot past a screened Carey Price. Toronto wouldn’t let up following that goal as young defenseman Jake Gardiner opened the second period with a bang for the Leafs as he netted a breakaway shorthanded goal just one minute into the period to give the Leafs a 2-0 lead. Ryan O’Byrne would soon expand the lead by yet another goal with his first goal of the season from the high slot after taking a pass from rookie forward Matt Frattin just five minutes following Gardiner’s goal.
The Canadiens would get one back with less than a minute remaining in the second period as Lars Eller would bury a beautiful cross-crease pass from captain Brian Gionta to cut the lead to 3-1 with one period left to play. The Canadiens upped the pressure in the third period putting fifteen of their 37 shots on net in the period but the Leafs would add another. Sniper Phil Kessel scored on a two on one after Nazem Kadri drew the defenseman towards him and made the pass to Kessel, who made no mistake burying it.
James Reimer made 36 saves for the win. Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf had the following to say about the spectacular performance in net. “I don’t think that we could have done it without him. He played his @$$ off today and made some key saves in the final few minutes to keep the win”, said Phaneuf, “We should all really thank him.” The Leafs head back home to the Air Canada Center to take on the struggling Buffalo Sabres on Monday.

Cabrera Heads To 60-day DL
MINNESOTA -- The Toronto Blue Jays' bad luck with the injury bug continues as they have announced that they have placed left fielder Melky Cabrera on the 60-day DL. Cabrera underwent an MRI at a local hospital in Minnesota and it revealed a torn hamstring that is expected to keep him sidelined for the next 1-2 months.
Cabrera was injured running down the first base line on his RBI groundout in the top of the sixth inning yesterday evening. After hit stepped on the bag, Cabrera immediately clutched his leg before eventually slowing down and falling to the ground in pain. He was carted off the field and was taken to the hospital immediately in an ambulance. "It's a tough break for Melk [Cabrera]. He's been one of the most consistent hitter for our team so far, so it's a lose-lose situation for us." said Blue Jays skipper John Gibbons.
The Blue Jays have announced that they have called up speedy outfielder Anthony Gose from Triple-A Buffalo in time and that he will be in Minnesota in time for the start of this afternoon's game against the Minnesota Twins. In a related roster move, the Blue Jays have moved John Tolisano from Double-A New Hampshire to Triple-A Buffalo to take Gose's spot on the roster. Gose is expected to start in left field in this afternoon's game.

Toronto Blue Jays (19-14) | Minnesota Twins (17-16) |
MINNESOTA -- The Blue Jays lost the second game of their four game series against the Minnesota Twins on the road at the spacious Target Field, but their concerns no longer lie on the outcome of their game. Left fielder Melky Cabrera was injured running down the first base line on his groundout to Twins shortstop Eduardo Escobar that scored Jose Reyes in the sixth inning. Cabrera grabbed his leg as he stepped on the first base bag and fell to the ground after slowing down. “It’s really unfortunate to see something like that happen. The game doesn’t matter anymore when that happens.” said Twins first baseman Justin Morneau. Cabrera was replaced by Rajai Davis in the bottom half of the sixth inning and was seen boarding an ambulance.
When asked about the injury after the game, Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said “We don’t know the severity of the injury at this moment but we do know that it is in the leg area. Hopefully it won’t keep him out too long but I’ll update you guys tomorrow.”
The injury overshadowed the walk-off victory that the Twins pulled out. Trevor Plouffe hit a 375 foot home run down the left field foul line that gave the Twins a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. However, the lead was short lived as a Jose Reyes tripled followed an RBI groundout by Melky Cabrera tied the game up at 1-1 in the top of the sixth inning. In the bottom half, the Twins re-claimed their lead when left fielder Josh Willingham hit his sixth home run of the season into the left field seats to give the Twins the 2-1 edge. Once again, the Twins lead would be short lived as Canadian Brett Lawrie stole third base with catcher Josh Thole up to bat before Thole would reach base on a throwing error by Twins first baseman Ryan Doumit, allowing Lawrie to score from third.
Things would stay the same until the bottom of the ninth when Brad Lincoln (1-1) came on out of the bullpen to pitch for the Blue Jays. After striking out Josh Willingham and Justin Morneau in order for the first two outs of the inning, Ryan Doumit made up for his error by hitting a double to the outfield gap. This set the table for pinch hitter Wilkin Ramirez, who was pinch hitting for Chris Parmelee. Ramirez promptly took a first pitch offering from Lincoln right back up the middle. Doumit would slide in safely and score from second base despite a strong throw by center fielder Colby Rasmus.
The series continues tomorrow afternoon as Josh Johnson (4-2) takes the mound for the Blue Jays against Mike Pelfrey (2-1) of the Twins.

Hutchison Strikes Out 13; Wins Season Debut On The Road
The Blue Jays usually powerful offense was lead by a different aspect tonight, as it was mainly speed that allowed the Jays to pull out the win, with no home runs being hit by either team. Brett Lawrie picked up his first triple of the season on a drive to the right-center field gap. Emilio Bonifacio, Rajai Davis and Jose Reyes both picked up steals during the game, but it was a different story for Melky Cabrera. Cabrera was picked off at first base by Brian Duensing in the third inning after he was caught off-guard and looking towards the dugout.
Lacking home run power at Target Field, the Blue Jays relied on a Melky Cabrera doubled to score a run before an RBI double by catcher Josh Thole scored Cabrera. Jose Reyes then followed up with a RBI single that allowed Thole to score from third after he advance on a base hit and a groundout.
Ryan Doumit hit his fourth doubled of the season off Hutchison, one of the Twins’ only five hits. But the biggest blow of the night for the Jays came off a Josh Willingham single up the middle off of a Casey Janssen fastball that scored Eduardo Escobar, who barely beat out the tag on a great throw by Blue Jays center fielder Colby Rasmus. Janssen would later work out of a jam to pick up his twelfth save of the season.
The Blue Jays continue their series at the pitcher friendly park at Target Field with Mark Buehrle going up against Twins starter Samuel Deduno.

Cespedes Drives In Three, A's Split Series With Jays
OAKLAND -- In front of 19, 340 fans at the O.co Coliseum in Oakland, the Athletics avenged their previous nights loss against the Toronto Blue Jays. Yoenis Cepsedes led the offense for the A’s driving in three runs with a triple and a double. The Athletics are in a tight battle for the American League West lead with rivals, the Texas Rangers and the Seattle Mariners, who are off to a surprisingly hot start through the first month and a half of the season.R.A. Dickey (1-3) continues to struggle on the young season as he lost yet another ballgame. The loss was mainly because of the lack of defense behind him, as five of the six runs that he allowed during his start against the Athletics were unearned runs, all coming off a throwing error by third baseman Brett Lawrie. “I’ve gotta be able to make that throw. If I make that throw, R.A. [Dickey] is out of the inning and we have a solid chance to win the ballgame.” said Lawrie.
Lawrie is young and is still learning the defensive aspects of playing at third base. The energetic young man made his third error in 27 games this afternoon. When Blue Jays manager John Gibbons was asked about the error all he would say was “mistakes were made”.
Tom Milone (4-0) is off to a scorching hot start to kick of the season as he improved to 4-0 after throwing eight solid innings allowing six hits and two runs while striking out five batters. Ryan Cook came on in the ninth inning and pitched a solid inning, giving up a hit to Lawrie, but getting slow Blue Jays catcher Henry Blanco to ground out into a double play to stifle the Blue Jays thoughts of a comeback and preserve the victory.
The Blue Jays continue their long road trip with a four game series against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field. Drew Hutchison is expected to make his first start of the season for the Blue Jays in place of the injured Brandon Morrow. He will be opposed by Twins starter Brian Duensing.
