That said, I play on PC, and I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed any issues with performance or CPU heat in this year's version? I don't know if it's on CFR's end or the software's end, but the opening video immediately cranks my CPU's temp to 85-88c (R5 3600), and even just sitting in the menus, my Ryzen's temp stays in that 85-88c range.

Haven't noticed any major performance issues—at least none that aren't easily attributed to the temps, since Ryzens throttle themselves rapidly in response to high temps—but even so, last year's version of CFR never did this on my hardware. I tried fiddling with a few settings, favoring performance over quality, but nothing seems to alleviate the temps.

I run a somewhat aggressive cooling setup (2 intakes, 2 exhausts, slight positive pressure because the intakes are both ~60 CFM Noctuas while the exhausts are ~40 CFM stock Corsairs that came with the case; all intakes and vents filtered) and the Wraith cooler + case fans are all set up to run at 100% at anything above 75c. Case interior is uncluttered with good airflow; don't even have any disc drives in the drive bay. Doom Eternal on high settings rarely cracks 80c (apples and oranges vs. PS3 emulation, granted, but nothing's ever run my CPU this hot).

Anyone else noticed higher temps on this year's version?
I can't speak to the version you're playing on, but I am having a major problem with my PS3. My unit is frequently shutting down with the blinking red light. Never did I have a problem before. I have even completed a major cleaning of the inside, but no relief.

So this is the conclusion I have drawn, revamped causes some major demand on the system.

Edit: As of today, I think my PS3 is dead. I can't find anybody else on the web that has had their PS3 act this way after running HEM and Multiman. Maybe my old guy was already on his last legs, who knows. I am tempted to nab another PS3 off of marketplace but then I think that's just an impulse move. I guess my days of revamped are over.

Sorry to hear that man, pouring one out for your old boy.

I do think you're onto something that this year's version of CFR is more demanding. The temps I'm getting are totally unprecedented for me, but the fact that it's happening even just sitting in the main menu is really what makes me think there's lots of code running even idling in the UI. Only theory I can come up with is that the code tells the SPUs to interface with the PPU at some point, e.g. to play the intro video, but never tells them to stop, so the SPUs are lighting up like crazy and flooding the hardware (your actual PPU, my Ryzen cores) with pointless instructions.

Of course, in your situation, it could always be a failing hard drive. Do you have a portable USB drive you can format as a PS3 hard drive somehow? If you can bypass the built-in HDD, and it still gives you the same issue, you'd be certain it's not the hard drive causing the problem.

Would be very much appreciative to hear from anyone else still, playing on any platform; our two problems might not be at all related, but if they are, that points to CFR rather than RPCS3 and I could formulate a gameplan.

I have other another hard drive I could install. I'll give it a try and check that box. Great suggestion.

Sorry to hear it, man. I’ve never bought anything newer than a PS3. CFBR is the only game I play anymore, and with little to no faith in how the new game will be, I wouldn’t know what to do if I lost my console.

My original PS3 died on me 10 years ago, possibly prematurely due to my own lack of ventilation efforts. I then bought a Super Slim and it’s never given me problems other than the occasional freeze up maybe once every month or so. I’ll probably buy another PS3 if mine goes out, or maybe enter the world of PC gaming if I’m ready to make that financial commitment.

Re: '14 Revamp Roll Call

Changed out the harddrive with tremendous hope...but still got the crash, so it's official, my original Fatboy, bought on April 8, 2008, is gone. He served me so well.

I almost bought a replacement unit last week, but my responsible brain kept kiboshing. There are zero current games I want to play, so why not buy a replacement for close to the same price of a new game. Plus, I was having so much fun playing revamped.

Enough about my plight, I am happy everyone else is rolling with the game. I will rejoin the ranks soon.

Re: '14 Revamp Roll Call

I'm back in business now, snagging a PS3 slim on marketplace. My next project is getting the gator22 sliders and profile working. Going through all the youtube videos that claim it's easy, but seems like a lot of moving parts. I could forget about it, but I like these little projects.

Anybody else dabble with these?

Way late with this reply, but just wanted to say thanks for following up with your results, I'm still struggling with performance issues on CFR and the info really is helpful!

Sucks that it wasn't just the HDD, but it's good to hear you've got a replacement.

I'm guessing the gator22 sliders include changes to the various values in the editor that aren't accessible in-game? Playing with stuff like that is always tricky for me even just as a PC player, I'm highly skeptical of anyone who says it's easy on a console

I'm sure by now you've already got it working, but even just using Bruteforce to unlock saves for RPCS3 is always a headache for me, seems like I have to do it a different way every time! But some folks just have a knack for stuff like that.
