BOWLING GREEN- The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers Football team has announced that they have hired a new coordinator for the 2011-12 season in an attempt to light a spark within the team. Western has been competeing in Division 1-A since they joined as an independent in 2008 after competing in Division 1-AA for most of their existence. In their first year at the I-A level they failed to win a single game against I-A opponents. In 2009, they joined the Sun Belt Conference and went 0-12. 2010 produced some wins for the program when they defeated UL-Lafayette and Arkansas State in overtime. Darrin Sersland has been hired as the new Offensive Coordinator for the team, says head coach Willie Taggart, who hopes to be able to compete in the Sun Belt Conference this season.
Sersland, 32, hails from Iowa and played football and coached at the community college level.
