The New York Mets (6-1) shut out the Washington Nationals (2-5), 7-0 to win their 6th straight game since dropping the opener.

Noah Syndergaard had sporadic control issues all night, but he was effectively wild, striking out 9, but issuing 6 walks. He pitched 6 innings, though he needed 110 pitches to get through. His ERA dropped to 1.28.

The Mets offense was powered by 3 Home runs, one apiece by Dilson Herrera, Will Metzger and Mike trout. Metzger commited two errors in the field, neither of which came back to hurt the Mets.

The Nationals left a small army on the basepaths. They managed 11 hits and 8 walks against Mets pitching, but could not manage to bring any runners home, as they were struck out 12 times, often looking clueless against Syndergaard and the bull pen.

The series at Nationals Park continues on Tuesday. Jon Lester (1-0, 0.00) toes the rubber against Felipe Rivero (0-1, 1.50) and the Nationals at 7:05

Game 7
April 10th, 2017
New York Mets at Washington Nationals
Probables: W. Miley (0-1, 16.20) v. N. Syndergaard (1-0, 2.25)

The New York Mets (5-1) hit the road to Washington D.C. to take on the Washington Nationals (2-4) in the first of a three game set from Nationals Park

Game Keys: (NYM) For the 5th straight game, the Mets outhit and outpitched their opponent to the tune of a 4-3 win, sweeping three games from the Baltimore Orioles. They hit the road today to face off against the Nationals, whom they played in the opening series, winning 2 of 3. Noah Syndergaard was instrumental in getting them back on the horse after an opening day loss, going 8 innings and allowing 2 runs, striking out a career high 15 batters. They will need a repeat performance from Syndergaard on the road, and for their offense to continue to rake.

(WAS) The Nationals come off their second straight series loss against the Atlanta Braves, winning the 1st game with great offensive prowess. They scored 11 times off of 17 hits against Braves pitching, losing the next two in tight contests. To best the Mets, the Nationals will need to recapture that offensive prowess shown in game one of that series, not an easy feat against Noah Syndergaard. They will need to hit him early and often to avoid sinking into a 3 game losing streak against their divisional foes.

After pitching in and saving the last 4 games for the Mets, Boone Logan is being given a day off by Mets manager Terry Francona.

In his 4 games, he has not allowed any runs, only giving up 3 hits, walking one and striking out 5.

The Mets will probably turn to George Kontos or Josh Edgin, should they find themselves in a save situation against Washington on Monday.

AAA: Las Vegas: 7, Fresno: 3
A bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 8th proved to be the difference in this game, but just for good measure, Gavin Cecchini tacked on a Grand Slam in the 5 run inning to lift the 51s to the victory. Darin Gorski was stellar in his season debut, going 6 and only allowing 1 run on 5 hits, striking out 6. They also got big games out of Tyson Gillies and Allan Dykstra, each collected 3 hits in the win.

AA: Binghamton: 5, New Hampshire: 4
The Mets survived a 4 run 2nd inning by New Hampshire, tying it up in the 3rd, and winning the game in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the 9th. Dustin Lawley provided the fireworks and sent the fans home happy, drilling the 2nd pitch of the inning over the center field wall. Mets reliever Jered Milano was credited with the win , striking out the only 2 batters he faced in the 9th.

The New York Mets (5-1) complete the sweep of the bumbling Baltimore Orioles (0-6), winning the final game 4-3.

Matt Harvey struggled a bit in the first inning, allowing a solo home run to Adam Jones. He would then settle down, allowing just 2 runs over 6 innings, striking out 9.

Orioles pitcher Carmen Covey made major improvements over his last start as well, allowing only 2 runs over his 5 innings of work. However, Robert Rohrbough could not get an out in the 8th, giving up 2 runs to seal the Orioles fate. The only Orioles runs came off the long ball, with Manny Machado hitting a solo homer, and Adam Jones hitting 2.

In that 8th inning, the Mets got doubles and RBIs from Dominic Smith and Mookie Betts, both pinch hitters and both left in for defense in the 9th. Boone Logan came in for his 4th straight game, and nailed down the 9th inning for his 4th straight save.

The Mets hit the road to DC to take on the Washington Nationals (2-4). Noah Syndergaard (1-0, 2.25) will toe the rubber for the Mets at Nationals Park. He will be opposed by Wade Miley (0-1, 16.20). Game Time is set for 7:05

Game 6
April 9th, 2017
Baltimore Orioles at New York Mets
Probables: M. Harvey (0-1, 7.20) v. C. Covey (0-1, 9.53)

The New York Mets (4-1) look for the sweep of their three game set against the Baltimore Orioles (0-5) at Citi Field.

Game Keys: (BAL) The Orioles bats broke out in a big way in the last game, scoring 9 runs. Their pitching, however, continued to stink, giving up 12 runs in the loss. Offense is going to be hard to come by against Mets Ace Matt Harvey, so they are going to have to buckle down with their pitching as well. The Orioles have allowed an AL 2nd worst 41 runs, only ahead of the Texas Rangers, who have given up 44.

(NYM) Matt Harvey struggled in his first start of the season, on Opening Day against the Nationals, giving up 4 runs in 5 innings. The Mets then proceeded to win the next 4 games by way of their offense. Despite their strong offense, they did not get a strong start from Jon Niese in the previous game. While the offense is expected to continue to stay hot, another expectation is for Matt Harvey to shake off his last start and make an adjustment to improve. If not, we may expect to see another blowout game on both sides.

Broadcast: Today's Game will be played with Quick Counts and will not be broadcast. PostGame highlights will be provided.

The Mets will hit the road on Monday, starting their road trip with 3 in Washington before heading to Atlanta for 4. While their pitching is certain to continue to be strong, the Mets will look to keep their offense strong as well, scoring double digit runs in 2 of the first 5, and scoring 33 runs in all 5 games, averaging close to 7 runs per game. Though a small sample size, if the Mets can make an early statement against their division foes, they may be looking at another easy road to October.

AAA: Las Vegas: 3, Fresno: 2
Las Vegas squeaks by the Fresno Grizzlies in a 3-2 victory, scoring their deciding run in the bottom of the 8th inning. Cory Mazzoni was sparkling for Vegas, allowing 2 runs in 6 innings with 8 strikeouts. Jordan Danks got the start in center for the 51's and went 1-4, the one hit a solo homer.

AA: New Hampshire: 6, Binghamton: 3
Binghamton drops its second straight game to the Fisher Cats. Greg Peavy pitched incredibly well for the Mets, going 7 strong innings of 7 run ball. Things, however, went south for the Mets in the 8th, as two relievers combined to give up 4 runs in 2/3 of an inning to deliver a gift wrapped win for New Hampshire.

It was a heavy offense kind of night, as neither pitching staff could really take command of the game. The Mets were able to pull out the 12-9 victory, sending the Orioles to their 5th straight loss to start the season.

Jon Niese was very highly ineffective for the Mets, only going 3.1 innings and giving up 6 Runs (5 Earned) on 9 hits and a walk, only striking out 3. His ERA balloons to 13.50 to start the season.

Though Wei-Yin Chen lasted longer, going 4.1 innings, he was much more ineffective, giving up 7 runs on 9 hits and 3 walks. All of his runs were earned.

Both pitchers shut down the opposing offenses for 2 innings until scoring opened in the top of the 3rd, when d'Arnaud and Inoue had RBI hits for the O's. The Mets proceeded to tie it up in the bottom half, and kept pouring on, scoring in each inning following through the 8th.

The Mets and Orioles will wrap up this series Sunday, with Baltimore looking to avoid being swept for the 2nd straight time to open the season. Matt Harvey (0-1, 7.20) will look to bounce back against Carmen Covey (0-1, 9.53) at 1:10PM

Game 5
April 8th, 2017
Baltimore Orioles at New York Mets
Probables: W. Chen (0-0 0.00) vs. J. Niese (0-0 0.00)

The New York Mets (3-1) play the middle game against the stumbling Baltimore Orioles (0-4) at Citi Field.

Game Keys: (BAL) Simply put, the key to an Orioles victory remains getting their pitching back under control. Early on in the first game, it looked like they might have struck gold, as Trevor May left the Mets off the board until the 5th inning. They proceeded to give up 6 runs (5 earned), and have slipped to last in MLB in team ERA with 7.20. They will look to Wei-Yin Chen to give them an awesome pitching performance to ease their pitching woes.

(NYM) Jon Niese is back, having been traded to the Angels prior to the 2015 season. The last 2 years in the American League have not been kind to Niese, as he has only won 6 games in each of his last two seasons, while losing 22 decisions combined (12-22 over 2 years.) The Mets brought him back with hopes that he will regain his form from 2014, when he went 10-5 with a 2.72 ERA.

Kirby St. John took the mound for the 51's and dominated through his 6.1 Innings, only allowing 1 earned run on 6 hits and 6 strikeouts. Hector Noesi picked up the save, pitching the final 2.2 innings of the game. Offensively, the 51's picked up 6 runs on just 7 hits, getting Home Runs from DH Jordan Danks and 3B Alderlin Rodriguez

AA: New Hampshire: 4, Binghamton: 2
On the mound for Binghamton, Matt Bowman gave up 4 runs in the 5th inning, and that is all the Rock Cats would ned to cruise to the victory. The Mets picked up 11 hits and 4 walks, but could only scratch out 2 runs, leaving a small army on the base paths. Leading the charge offensively is 2B T.J. Rivera, who wen 3-4 with a solo home run. He is now batting .500 over the first 2 games of the minor league season.

The New York Mets (3-1) take Game 1 of the weekend series vs. the Baltimore Orioles (0-4), 6-4.

Jacob deGrom gutted out 6 tough innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits with 3 walks on his way to the no-decision. David Wright tied things up in the 5th inning with a 3-run shot to left field.

Trevor May wasn't as stellar as deGrom, only lasting 5.1, also giving up 3 runs but allowing 11 hits.

The Mets would take the lead for good in the 7th, as a vital throwing error by Steve Lombardozzi on a Will Metzger ground ball would allow Metzger to get to 2nd base, and Dilson Herrera to score. Mike Trout would later drive Metzger in with the deciding run.

Boone Logan shut the Orioles down in the 9th for his 2nd save.

Next Up: The Mets continue their 3 game set with the Orioles. Jon Niese (0-0, 0.00) faces off against Wei-Yin Chen (0-0, 0.00) in a Saturday Matinee.

Game 4
April 7th, 2017
Baltimore Orioles at New York Mets
Probables: T. May (0-0 0.00) vs. J. deGrom (0-0 0.00)

The New York Mets (2-1) welcome the stumbling Baltimore Orioles (0-3) to Citi Field for the first of three games.

Game Keys: (BAL) The Orioles are coming off being swept in 3 games in Baltimore at the hands of the New York Yankees. During that series, the Orioles were outscored 23-7, leaving them with a team ERA of 7.67, good for 2nd worst in MLB and worst in the American League, only ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The key for the Orioles is simple, The pitching needs to step up and dominate, beginning with former Met Trevor May.

(NYM) On the other hand, the Mets come off a series win versus the Washington Nationals with a stellar pitching performance by Jon Lester. Their offense pounded out 10 hits, though only scoring 2 runs, it was enough for the victory. With Baltimore's pitching struggling so early in this young season, the Mets offense will need to take advantage of any and all of the O's pitching miscues, and keep their offense rolling.
