It is opening day for both the Mets AAA and AA baseball teams. The focus, however, is on each mound, as AAA Vegas features a pitcher trying to make a comeback, and AA Binghamton features a young pitcher being held in high regard in the organization.
AAA: Fresno: 5, Las Vegas: 1
Old friend Johan Santana took the mound for Las Vegas, as he hopes to make a major league comeback with the team which he gave both his and their first no-hitter. Santana suffered the loss in his first game, going 6 innings, giving up 3 earned runs and striking out 2. Scouts who watched him pitch say that there were definite signs of rust making this start, and to keep an eye on him as the season goes along. If he can shake this rust off, don't be surprised to see him back in Queens in late August, or as a September call up.
AA: Binghamton: 7, New Hampshire: 5
Taking the mound for Binghamton, young pitcher Augustin Brown, whom the Mets signed through international free agency last season, made his season debut. He labored through 6 tough innings, giving up 7 hits and 5 runs (3 earned) though he did strike out 11. There is certainly work to do on his end control wise, as he gave up 5 walks as well.

The New York Mets have chosen to option rookie relief pitcher Hansel Robles to AAA Las Vegas. Robles made an appearance in the finale of the 3 game set vs. the Nationals, pitching a scoreless inning.
To shore up their bench, the Mets called up CF Kirk Nieuwenhuis from Vegas. Nieuwenhuis last saw Major League action in 2015, where he was 9-46 with 6 RBI. Having Nieuwenhuis on the bench will give Terry Francona another left-handed option to pinch hit in late game situations.

The New York Mets take the season opening series from the Washington Nationals with a 2-0 win in the finale.
Jon Lester was electric in his six innings, only allowing 3 hits and striking out 3. Despite the low strikeout count, Lester was dominant, mixing speeds and location extremely well. He kept the Nats offense off-balance all afternoon, as they could only come up with 5 hits all afternoon.
In the bottom of the 2nd, Dominic Smith hit his first home run of the young season, a solo shot, to give the Mets the only run they would need to pull off the win. Cesar Puello would tack on an insurance run later in the 8th inning, to make it 2-0.
Felipe Rivero was fairly dominant on the hill for Washington as well, the only blemish being the home run by Dom Smith. His offense could not score him any runs despite his performance, however, and he walks away with the tough luck loss.
Next up, the Mets welcome the Baltimore Orioles for a 3 game interleague set at Citi Field. Former Met Trevor May (0-0, 0.00) makes his O's debut against the guy he was traded for, Jacob deGrom (0-0, 0.00), who is making his return to the Mets.

Washington Nationals at New York Mets
The New York Mets (1-1) look to take the rubber match as they take on the Washington Nationals (1-1) in the final game of their 3 game set from Citi Field
Game Keys: (WAS) As opposed to the 1st game of the season, the Nationals offense was stymied by Noah Syndergaard, only managing to score two runs, both coming in the 8th inning. The Nats will look to get their offense back on track, and will be looking for Bryce Harper to put up good power numbers in this game off of Lester.
(NYM) After Matt Harvey took a Game 1 loss, Noah Syndergaard turned things around for Mets pitchers in the second game, as their bats were finally able to get to work. A lot of positives have been said about both the Mets pitchers and hitters, as they sport a young lineup. With the bats awakening in Game 2, they will need more of the same in Game 3, and will be looking for BIG games from Dilson Herrera, Dom Smith, and Will Metzger, in order to take the series.
Broadcast: Today's Game will be played with Quick Counts and not be broadcast in full. PostGame Highlight reel will be provided.

The New York Mets pulled a complete 180, scoring 11 runs to defeat the Nationals, 11-2 and even the series.
After a bad showing by ace pitcher Matt Harvey, the Mets needed a good game from their number 2 guy, Noah Syndergaard, and he certainly delivered. Thor delivered 8 strong innings of 2-run ball. Most impressively, he struck out 15 batters, a career high for the young pitcher.
The Mets bats awoke a night after they could only muster 4 hits, breaking out for 10 hits and 11 runs. However, no bat broke out bigger than that of Mike Trout. In an amazin' performance, Trout went 3-5 with 2 HRs and a Triple, with 6 RBI's, leading the charge. Dilson Herrera walked 4 times, while Dom Smith and Will Metzger combined to go 3-9 and 3 RBIs
The Mets look to take the rubber match from the Nationals tomorrow at 1:10PM. Jon Lester (0-0, 0.00) makes his season debut against Felipe Rivero (0-0, 0.00) and the Nationals.

Washington Nationals at New York Mets
The New York Mets (0-1) look to bounce back from the Opening Day loss as they take on the Washington Nationals (1-0) in the middle game of their 3 game set from Citi Field
Game Keys: (WAS) The continued offensive attack will be key for the Nationals if they want to take the first series of the season against Noah Syndergaard. They banged out 8 hits and scored 5 times in the opening game against Matt Harvey, who was surprisingly not at his best. Syndergaard, on the other hand, is a tough nut to crack. With his sub-1 ERA in the 2016 postseason, the Nationals will have their work cut out for them.
(NYM) Terry Francona mentioned in his PostGame press conference that he was absolutely surprised that Matt Harvey did not have his best stuff in the opener. With Postseason wonder Noah Syndergaard taking the mound for Game 2 of the opening series, the big key for the Mets is having him go out there and pitch a gem in the wake of Harvey's clunker. Another key here will be getting the middle of this lineup going in the middle game. The 4-5-6-7 batters combined to go 1-13 with 3 Ks in the losing effort.

The New York Mets drop their Opening Game to the Nationals 5-2.
Matt Harvey took the mound for the Mets, and was rocked early and often. In 5 innings of work, he gave up 4 Earned Runs on 6 Hits and a Walk, while striking out 7.
The Mets failed to take advantage of a wild Steven Strasburg, leaving a small army on the bases. In 6 innings, Strasburg walked 5 Mets hitters and gave up 3 hits, but only allowed 1 run as he and his Nationals open the season with a 1-0 record.
Overall, the Mets could only muster 4 hits. The 5-6-7 tandem of Metzger, Smith and Trout was 0-10 at the plate with 2 walks and 1 strikeout.
These same two teams will meet up again. Wade Miley (0-0, 0.00) opposes Noah "Thor" Syndergaard (0-0, 0.00) at 7:10pm in the middle game of this opening series.
Stay tuned, as this entire game was aired on my Twitch channel, the YouTube archive will be coming shortly.

Washington Nationals at New York Mets
The New York Mets begin their defense of their World Series championship with the first of three games vs. the Washington Nationals at Citi Field
Game Keys: (WAS) The Nationals finished the 2016 season in 3rd place in the NL East with an 80-82 record. The key to success for this season is to attempt to reduce their team ERA. In 2016, the Nationals finished with a 4.05 team ERA, 5th worst in the entire National League. Their hope is that today's starter. Steven Strasburg, can lead the improvement, and improve from his 9-13, 4.17 season in 2016.
(NYM) The Mets finished the 2016 season in 1st place in the NL East with a 109-53 record, sweeping each series in the 2016 postseason to win the World Series. Rookies such as Dominic Smith, Will Metzger and Kevin Plawecki led the charge throughout last season into the Postseason. To find success, the Mets will need these youngsters to prove the "Sophomore Slump" theory to be just a fluke, and have huge offensive and defensive seasons in their second year.

Here it is, the Mets 2016 World Series clincher in its entirety:
2017 New York Mets Franchise
Game: MLB 15: The Show
Game: MLB 15: The Show
I've decided to start a New York Mets dynasty from a save which was started in MLB 14 and has since been carried over to MLB 15. The 2017 New York Mets are fresh off of a championship run in 2016, which saw them win 109 Regular Season games en route to a Playoff sweep and a world championship.
The 2017 New York Mets come in looking to repeat as champions, with largely the same roster, with a few minor tweaks. There will be challenges along the way, as some amazing rookies led the 2016 Mets into battle, the Mets are hoping for amazin' sophomore seasons from some of their youngsters. Most notably, from 2016 NL ROY Dominic Smith and hot SS Will Metzger. There are also hopes that Matt Harvey will hold onto his CY Young Award winning form, and Noah Syndergaard continues to impress.
Keep tabs on this blog as I will provide start of season info, rosters, schedules, etc. During this 2017 season, I will provide highlight reels for all non-simmed games, as well as Twitch broadcasts for select games, including Opening Day, the All-Star Game, and all potential playoff games!
