Luton Town spent the first half trying to breakthrough with a goal, and when they did. They didn't stop there.

CM Jake Hessenthaler opened up the scoring in the 45th minute with a brilliant chip shot from the edge of the box that gently sailed over the outstretched hands of Northampton GK Duke and just under the crossbar for the game's first goal.

In the 81st minute, CAM Luke Guttridge sent a pass to streaking RM Luke Rooney, who settled the ball and fired a shot under a diving goalkeeper into the back of the net.

Finally in the 2nd minute of extra time in the second half, CAM Jim Stevenson sent a through ball to sprinting Luke Guttridge. He first-timed the ball with authority from just outside the 6 yard box over goaltender Duke's shoulder and into the top right corner of the net.

A goalless draw between Northampton and Luton Town today, in what was a very even game. There were a few loose moments for both defenses at times, but neither team was able to capitalize. The draw was a well earned discision for both sides.

With the draw Luton Town moves to 5-5-1 and remain in 2nd place, now 3 points behind league leading Southend United. Northampton Town is in 3rd at 6-2-3. They are tied with Luton Town in both points and goal differential, but fall behind in goals scored 17-12. It's still early in the season (about 1/4 of the way through), but only 3 points separate 2nd from 10th place in the league table.

Next up is a rematch of today's game with Northampton in Round 2 of the J. Paint Trophy. This time the game will be in Luton Town on only 3 days rest. It will be interesting to see how many of today's starters play again.

ST Paul Benson scored twice in the first 26 minutes, and Luton cruised to a 2-1 victory over Bury.

In the 8th minute, Benson scored on a rebound off a shot from CAM Luke Guttridge. Benson has found himself often in a position to score on rebound chances.

In the 26th minute, Benson would score again. This time, it was a penalty awarded to Luton Town on a clumsy foul in the box that resulted in a yellow card for RB Soares, the offender. Benson easily chipped the ball into the left side of the net as the goaltender went right.

The score would remain 2-0 until Bury got on the scoreboard when it was far too late to save the game. In the 89th minute, Soares put a cross in from the right side on a free kick that was headed off the post by Nardiello. Hussey slide under Luton defender Steve McNulty to slide the ball by the keeper for Bury's only goal.

With the win, Luton Town (5-4-1) finds itself up to 2nd place in the league, 1 point behind Southend United. Bury (3-2-5) is in 18th place.

Luton Town scored 3 times in the first 21 minutes to put this game away early. Exeter City looked lost for most of the game, as they were quickly disheartened by the relentless Luton Town attack.

Luton Town's first goal came in the 2nd minute, when Luke Guttridge slipped between two defenders with the ball and striking with authority from 12 yards out.

Just 9 minutes later, Guttridge would strike again, this time from the edge of the penalty area into the bottom right corner.

In the 21st minute, ST Paul Benson sent a pretty pass to Guttridge who first-timed a shot that glanced off the far post, but Benson streaked toward the goal on the shot and easily put the ball in uncontested.

The score would remain at 3-0 until Guttridge struck again in the 87th minute. ST Mark Cullen send a pass from the left edge of the penalty area to a streaking Guttridge who struck a beautiful shot from 18 yards into the bottom left corner of the net.

With the win, Luton Town moves to 4-4-1 into 4th place, 1 point out of the lead. Exeter City (2-2-5) finds itself in 22nd place.

For the second time in 3 matches, Luton Town could only capture a draw despite leading in the waning moments.

ST Paul Benson scored two goals to give Luton Town one goal leads. The first came just 7 minutes into the match when CAM Jim Stevenson blast a shot from the left corner of the box. His shot was brilliantly saved by the keeper, but the rebound was easily put away into the bottom right corner by Stevenson.

The lead would remain 1-0 for only 4 minutes. In the 11th minute, Oxford CM Rose took a free kick from just outside the right side of the box. The ball was headed away from the net by Luton CM Andy Drury, but Luton CAM Jim Stevenson mistakenly headed the ball back in front of the box where Oxford's Collins headed the ball straight down to his teammate ST Morris. His shot hit the post, but he slid to get the rebound and put the ball into the open net.

Luton's Benson would strike again in the 34th minute. Off a nice pass from CM Solomon Taiwo, Paul Benson first timed the ball in from about 8 yards out just over the keepers reach into the top left corner.

The final Oxford goal came off a free kick. This time LM Brown sent a ball from about 40 yards away unto the box where ST Hylton headed the ball over an outstretched GK Mark Tyler to tie the game in the 5th minute of extra time in the second half.

With the draw, Luton Town now has 13 points (3-4-1) and finds itself in 8th place. Oxford United (2-3-3) is now in 15th place.

An unfortunate own goals off the shoulder of Dagenham defenseman David Batt in the 60th minute was all the scoring Luton Town would need in a 1-0 win.

Luton Town put constant pressure on Dagenham, but were unable to score on their own. Luton Town outshot Dagenham 12-3. Six of those 12 shots made their way to the keeper, but none went past him.

The Luton Town manager was not thrilled with the performance. "We beat the last place team in the league. Congratulations. If we're going to compete for a spot in League 1, we're going to have to finish better."

With the win, Luton Town has 12 points in 7 games, moving them to 8th in the League standings. Dagenham's 2 points leaves them in 24th and in bottom position.

Luton Town led for nearly 75 minutes during this game, but a late goal by Akpa Akpro in the 90th minute stole 2 points from Luton Town. League leading Shrewsbury Town tied the game 2-2.

The scoring began in the 7th minute when Luke Guttridge curled a shot just out of the reach of the Shrewsbury GK Leutweiler.

The score would remain 0-1 until the 71st minute, when Shrewsbury's Wildig sent a clever cross to Singer, who headed the ball beyond the hard-charge GK Tyler.

Luton Town would answer back 7 minutes later, when Rooney fired a shot from the right side of the box. Leutweiler made the save, but was unable to control the ball. Newly acquired and fresh off the bench M Jake Hessenthaler got his head to the ball first and guided it gently under the crossbar. Luton Town felt the win was inevitable.

But Shrewsbury, who had been scrappy all day, wouldn't have it. As th clock ticked into the 2nd minute of extra time, Wesolowski sent a ball ahead down the middle ad into the box. Luton midfielder Jonathan Smith got his head to it, but sent the ball directly to Shrewsbury's Akpa Akpro, who had time to settle the ball and send a strike just inside the left post to finalize a 2-2 draw.

With the draw, Luton Town has 9 points through 6 games and finds itself in 11th place. Shrewsbury Town remains on top of the League 2 table with 13 points.

Luton Town earned the second victory of the season with a 2-1 win over Carlisle United.

The first half was goalless until Benson & Drury combined on a well executed give and go in the 45th minute. Benson got the ball to Drury down low, where he sent a clever back heel back to Benson who beat his marker and put the ball in the short side corner of the goal.

The game remained 1-0 until the 75th minute, Luton Defenseman Griffiths had a bad giveaway in the box to Thirlwell, who sent a nice pass to Paynter to put the ball away.

Unhappy with a potential draw, Stevenson sent a pass into the right side of the box to Lafayette who blasted the ball into the opposite side of the net.

The 2-1 win moves Luton Town to 2-2-1, in 10th place in League 2. Carlisle United drop to 2-0-3 in 15th place.

Luton Town sent CDM Andy Parry on a season loan to Notts County.
With the transfer window closing in 24 hours, it will be interesting to see who Luton Town is able to acquire. They have $695,000 and $2,500 per wek available to them.

Twice down a goal, Luton Town managed to earn a draw.

The scoring opened in the 28th minute when Bruna sent a cross into the box from the right side of the defense to a well-marked Odejayi, but his head got to the ball before Wilkinson could reach it and sent it by GK Tyler into the top corner.

Just before the the half, the game was equalized by Luton Town. Benson sent a beautiful pass into the box to Wilkinson, who got a step on Holness and rifled a shot into the bottom right corner of the net past a sprawling Fon Williams.

Tranmere would go up again in the 65th minute. Odejayi sent a pretty pass off the side of his foot to Gill. Gill switched feet and sent a low ball under the keeper into the corner from just behind the penalty spot.

Luton Town would respond again. In the 82nd minute, with their backs to the wall, Rooney sent a pass up the middle to Cullen who put the ball away in the top corner of the goal from beyond the top of the 22 yard box.

With the tie, Luton Town (1-2-1) drops to 14th place. Tranmere Rovers (2-2-0) moves to 4th place.

Prior to the game, Luton Town announced that they had sent 18 years old LB Mark Onyemah to the Bray Wanderers on a season loan.

Luton Town's defense hasn't given up a goal in more than 300 minutes, but it still wasn't enough for a win today as the game ended in a nil-nil draw. A defensive struggle throughout, neither side created much in the way of chances. Even when they did, few saves were required as many shots were off target.

With the draw Luton Town (1-1-1) drop to 13th place. Morecambe (0-2-1) moves to 19th place.

Luton Town was clearly the dominant side as they controlled the ball for nearly 60% of the game and outshot Hartlepool United 17-3. 2 goals by ST Paul Benson (45', 52') were enough to hold Hartlepool at bay.

Star Luton Town CAM Luke Guttridge went down with a sprained ankle and is expected to miss a month.

Luton Town gave a valiant effort but fell to Rotherham United on penalty kicks after a goalless draw. After a scoreless 120 minutes, Rotherham United missed on the first kick, providing hope for the visiting side. But 2 consecutive saves by Rotherham left Luton Town wondering what went wrong.

A brilliant defensive showing on both sides.

The League 2 season begins with a disappointing loss to Mansfield Town at home 0-3. The sides were evenly matched for much of the first half, but Bell scored on a long lob shot from outside the area in the 29th minute. Mansfield Town wouldn't look back.

Despite being down a man after a red card to ST Simon Heslop in the 38th minute and some near misses by Mansfield Town, Luton Town CB Steve McNulty fouled CAM Fergus Bell in the box. McNulty was red carded in the incident and was capped off with an Adam Murray goal on the penalty.

Bell would get his chance 2 minutes into the 2nd half on a beautiful feed from Murray, after he had slipped 2 defenders. Bell easily put away the goal and the game as well.

Mansfield Town finds itself atop the League 2 standings while Luton Town opens its first week in the League in last.

In other news, Luton Town signed 18 year old free agent CM Alexander Moralejo to a 4 year-$1000/week contract. He is projected to be a rotation player for now, but likely to become a more frequent starter as the season progresses.

Luton Town rested 10 of its top 11 in its last Friendly before the League 2 season starts and it showed. Hobro IK open the first half with 3 goals in the first 24 minutes, and was ahead 5-nil before a extra time goal by LM Jake Howells.

Luton Town ends its exhibition season with 1 draw and 2 losses, leaving its manager skeptical of its league prospects. "There's clearly lots of work to do here," he said. "The defense gave up 9 goals in 3 games. That's not something we willing to tolerate during the season."

Luton Town's defense got caught several times losing their marks and Hobro IK was able to take advantage often. Hobro IK's Antipas scored a hat trick scoring the last 3 goals for the winning side.

A much tighter defense was shown today by Luton Town, although the still surrendered an early goal.

13 minutes into the first half, UCD AFC scored their only goal on a great cross that landed inside the 6 yard box. Luton Town LB Scott Griffiths attempted to clear the ball, but glanced off his foot and into the net for an own goal.

UCD AFC dominated possessions holding the ball for 60% of the game, but could not muster any other goals.

With Luton Town fearful of a second straight defeat, CM Solomon Taiwo was able to beat his marker to the left of the box and sent a blistering cross to the right side of the 6 yard box where ST Mark Cullen beat his defender and headed the ball into the upper right hand corner of the net, just out of the reach of the goaltender.

With the draw, Luton Town is now 0-1-1 in preseason friendlies.

It was announced after the game that starting CAM Jim Stevenson would miss the league opener with a quad injury. He is likely to miss 2-3 weeks.
