Madden 13 only a 50/50 by buy for me
Posted on June 23, 2012 at 06:38 PM.
3 months ago....i was set firm in my belief i was no way going to buy madden 13 this year...i was just sick of the yearly let downs...

but with the new physics engine and new commentary team....i am now willing to say i am 50/50 on the game. but here are some things that still concern me

1. in the e3 videos i saw, the commentary was a lot better than 12. but there were quite a few dead spots. and the commentary didnt seem very organic. they didnt say players names very often. and the intro's seem to be very similar. i would like to see commentary from a franchise that is say 4 or 5 years in to see how it adjusts. hopefully they work on the dead spots also.

2. penalties...we have heard them address several major complaints from past years games as being "fixed" in this years game...but we havent heard them talk about penalties...it will be a huge let down if there still arent any realistic penalties in this game such as pass interference, chop block, intentional grounding, etc.

3. this is by far the most important aspect to the game for me. ratings. can we please spread them out. waaaay to many ppl are rated way to high! i proved players dont have to be rated high to perform in my madden 12 roster edits.its no fun when every starter on ur team is in the 80's after 2-3 years of franchise mode. and the removing of potential just made things worse. now you can throw xp at players. what they should have done is kept their xp system....toned down how many xp you get but still allow you to get points to throw at players. but keep potential...but have a players potential rating only be revealed after 3 full seasons in the league and based on his numbers and stats verse his peers along with how well his skill set fits in the offensive or defensive scheme of the team who drafted/signed him.

that is how true development works... it takes 2-3 years the majority of the time to see if a player is going to really develop or if he just isnt cut out for the nfl.

i think we really need to see alot of things in franchise mode as far as ratings go and what they look like after 3-4 years of simmed seasons...before the demo comes out. so they can tweak or tune or patch or whatever. cuz i know i am not the only one who gets bugged by this.

thats where i am at.

where are you at with the state of the franchise that is madden football.

none of these except for penalties are a real deal breaker for me

I heard from the guys that went to community day that the commentary is quite a bit better now than it was at E3 and that there are hardly any dead spots. I also heard from them that physics have been tightened up and there is very little ice skating and almost no zig zag running now. One guy said him and another guy intentionally tried to zig zag run and were unsuccessful in their attempts.

To be quite honest, I've been very disappointed with every version of Madden on the PS3 to date and the last version I bought was Madden '10.

It just doesn't have the feel the game had in the PS2 versions !

I Stopped buying in 09, this is gonna be a buy for me! I could care less what color arm bands a player has or what kind of shoes he has on, the connected career was it for me, I am an offline franchise player only and this addition was music to my ears. I really don't give a crap about importing draft classes either. Hopefully EA can build on 13 and Madden starts to get better every year

I'm already pre-ordered up...but I would like to see some of those dead spots in commentary to be filled as well. Everything game play wise are minor to add in the future to be added/tweaked. Like re-adding field goal snap delays, having a option to have the QB drop to the ground and take a sack, etc. After playing the build at E3 there seems to be more emphasis on differentiating players traits and characteristics. (Like a 4-3 DE vs a 3-4 DE, or a Deep threat WR vs just a Big possession catching WR) I didn't see anything regarding chop blocks, but illegal touching and pass interference seems to be tweaked better.

i could honestly live without commentary being made better and even without penalties....too me its just so stupid that every player is rated so dang high! it drives me crazy as a offline franchise player when i lose interest after 2 seasons because my team is too good. those are main reasons i stop playing madden in the firstplace.... it gets boring because building a team is too easy

I was originally 50/50, but then after I read about the physics engine and Connected Careers I made my pre-order. Several days later that pre-order was cancelled after finding out about the editing restrictions on the rosters in CC mode. The fact that I can't create myself on a team and still play as a 'coach' to do the GM aspects at the same time is a deal breaker for me since that's the only way I want to play Madden. I enjoyed Madden 12 and will playing that again this year with an updated roster.

The editing restrictions and not being able to import draft classes was the death knell for me. I have always had the newest madden for close to 20 years now and I will not be buying this one. Importing the draft classes is one of my favorite aspects for connecting NCAA with Madden.

I also will not be buying NCAA 13 as I will keep 12 and wait until the 14 editions. Especially since the BCS will be changing to a 4 team playoff. NCAA 13 is pretty much not worth it.

I watched a few e3 vids on Youtube and honestly I just wasn't blown away at all like I expected I would be. Does the tackling look better? Absolutely, but to me the running animations have actually taken a step or two backwards. It's the same old argument every year: is it worth the full $60 to get a slightly better version of last year's game, with roster updates of course?

I was unaware of the draft class fiasco, but that certainly doesn't grease the wheel anymore for me. I fear that we can continue to expect subtle changes like this every year for as long as EA has the license monopolized.

Its zero percent buy for me. No NCAA import and I decided not to buy either game. I will wait til NCAA 13 is out then go get 12 used and do the same when madden comes out.

i love the idea of the cc mode in the game..... i was playing madden 12 lastnight i drafted a 5th rd cb in in the prevous draft, and champ baily is now getting old. So i can paly and make that cb the next great thing, now since hes rated lower its going to take me awhile. Which i am completly fine with, now practices matter all games matter. Its not just oh here week 13 im 11-1 what am i playing for now? just stat padding.. no im in control of who i want to get better it matters now if my rb scores 25 td in a season i get more xp points it matters if i lead the league in any catergory. The editing and import woes while kinda sad not a huge turn of for me especially since ive been wanting franchise mode changed for years! So i will buy the game i will be out there at midnight son! plus the ncaa imports were broken last yr players model were horrible i couldnt even play it, and the rating sysytem is terrible most times if i have phennom in college he is a 99 ovr he come to the league as a 60 sorry not accurate i might have a higher ovr but a lower potential but 99-60 dosent compute....so i tried it a few times last year didnt like it the madden created rookies were more fun to play with honestly.

Also not trying to ruffle any feathers...but if you play 2-3 seasons and draft correctly and have pretty succeful teams with potential youre guys are going to get better and have high ratings......happens in all game 2k in 3 seasons ive built a crazy good cavs team in baseball in yr 2 my mariners are highly rated. So its the same in football. Now once contract time comes up you cant pay all of the highly rated players in football so thats when the cutting the fat some into play. So like i said i dont understand the high ratings complaint.....are youre teams suppose to stay below 75 and 77's after 3 years?

I was all set to buy for the first time since '10, but as soon as I read that you can't edit players ratings and attributes, it was OVER. Forget it. Not buying and won't ever buy EA again unless they give us back an option we've had for YEARS. Absolute worst decision ever. Person or persons should be fired for that decision.

well. when was last time the rams made the play offs?? what anout the bills? browns?? before this year the lions and 49ers. this issue u stated was IF you have a good draft. they made drafting so easy that its impossible not to draft well....on top of that free agency poses no challenge at all. so it is a big deal cuz there are quite a few teams who miss play offs year after year

Hey people, my beef is no multiplayer offline franchise on the same console. It boggles the mind how stupid they are to take out such a thing. i'm gonna post this link on as many threads as possible on the slight..SLIGHT chance EA will do something about it after receiving adequate votes. please vote if you feel the same.
