3 months ago....i was set firm in my belief i was no way going to buy madden 13 this year...i was just sick of the yearly let downs...
but with the new physics engine and new commentary team....i am now willing to say i am 50/50 on the game. but here are some things that still concern me
1. in the e3 videos i saw, the commentary was a lot better than 12. but there were quite a few dead spots. and the commentary didnt seem very organic. they didnt say players names very often. and the intro's seem to be very similar. i would like to see commentary from a franchise that is say 4 or 5 years in to see how it adjusts. hopefully they work on the dead spots also.
2. penalties...we have heard them address several major complaints from past years games as being "fixed" in this years game...but we havent heard them talk about penalties...it will be a huge let down if there still arent any realistic penalties in this game such as pass interference, chop block, intentional grounding, etc.
3. this is by far the most important aspect to the game for me. ratings. can we please spread them out. waaaay to many ppl are rated way to high! i proved players dont have to be rated high to perform in my madden 12 roster edits.its no fun when every starter on ur team is in the 80's after 2-3 years of franchise mode. and the removing of potential just made things worse. now you can throw xp at players. what they should have done is kept their xp system....toned down how many xp you get but still allow you to get points to throw at players. but keep potential...but have a players potential rating only be revealed after 3 full seasons in the league and based on his numbers and stats verse his peers along with how well his skill set fits in the offensive or defensive scheme of the team who drafted/signed him.
that is how true development works... it takes 2-3 years the majority of the time to see if a player is going to really develop or if he just isnt cut out for the nfl.
i think we really need to see alot of things in franchise mode as far as ratings go and what they look like after 3-4 years of simmed seasons...before the demo comes out. so they can tweak or tune or patch or whatever. cuz i know i am not the only one who gets bugged by this.
thats where i am at.
where are you at with the state of the franchise that is madden football.

EA, and the dev team are trying to increase sales by catering to a "new and casual market" that would not buy the game normally. They believe that their recent decline in sales is an effect of not being able to attract new customers.
It's corporate agenda to increase bottom line sales, period. They are making an extremely poor attempt to "change" how sports video games are played, when it's not about "how" they are being played, but the quality o "what" is being played.
I won't say F ea, bc I think some of the games are made well. However, I cant say the same about the madden team. Yes, the economy is down, but you hold the rights the most popular sport in America, a sport with the highest ad revenue, and tv contracts, and your sales are declining?
Quality always sales, please complain with your wallets, and keep voicing your opinions about what is wrong or it will never get fixed.
Josh Looman is the skip bayless of designers. What a disappointment this year.
