I really liked madden this year. there were some things that really annoyed me, and some of the lack of improvements in certain areas bugged me too. but for the first time in 7 years i enjoyed a madden game. i was active in the forums. i was very active in my work with sliders and responding to questions with the community.
...then nba 2k12 happened.
lets jump back to 366 days ago, when 2k11 came out. it was undoubtedly the greatest nba game to hit any consol ever. the gameplay improvements were so noticeable. the michael jordan mode. the presentation mode. everything about the game was incredible and i know it was played for hundreds of hours by not just me, but by many.
heading into this year. 2k had a astounding game. with the announcement that nba elite would not be coming out this year. for the first time 2k would know what it feels like to be in EA's shoes. they are the only company comping out with a game. lets be honest. if there wasnt a lockout, many of us would buy the game with new rosters, and game mode additions/improvements.
but 2k improved presentation, took their already incredible commentary and not only improved it, but added a 3rd commentator in the booth. they added the legends mode and made presentation to replicate that era! they changed up the post game to make that more responsive and add more moves, they upgraded the ai logic. made mass improvements to my player. added my legends. improved the graphics and added more signature style, oh and worked with play calling too. lets not forget this game plays amazing sim basketball right out of the box. not really even needing any slider adjustments.
they did all this knowin they have zero competition.
then i think back to what madden 12 improved. collisons, suction, and added some presentation camera angles. the line play left untouched, the passing game is stale with no trajectory, psychic dbs and super linebackers still exist, franchise mode added new thigns, but its still way to easy to trade for players and draft talent and have an amazing team in 3 years. oh and commentary for madden back on ps1 is better in every aspect then the commentary on madden 12.
every year with madden its the same, wait til next year. thats our plan for next year.
and altho i did/do enjoy madden 12 this year. i look at what 2k did with a game where they had no competition in a year where madden hasnt had any competition in 7 years. and i am pissed off.
one can argue that the improvements and additions made from nba 2k11 to 2k12 are greater than the "improvements/additions" made to madden from 06-12.
although it may sound like i am bashing madden, its not 100% like that, i do enjoy this years game, but feel like i am getting cheapened on the leaps made from year to year compared to the 2k series. as someone who always tried to find the good in the company that is EA sports. i am now at a loss of confidence. nba 2k12 in my head shows ea's true colors.
well that is it for my rant/thoughts on what 2ba 2k12 is too me and the effects it has had.
my only complaint with the game is no rookies. i have a jones for kemba walker and want him in my association so i have to wait til someone makes the rosters with rookies.
p.s. if u know any roster for ps3 with this years rookies. hit me up! lol

I had madden for a week and took it back for ea's hockey and I really haven't touched that either gears of war 3 took care of that. However u are right! Super lb's and the same ole sh*t year in and year out. Hockey feel off too. 2k12 will have me gaming for 366 days. I'm 41 years old and was like a little kid waiting for Christmas to come! The best sports game.....PERIOD!

i agree also.it's funny my boss asked me if ea was being lazy because of no compettion but he palys madden on the ps2.i do have to say madden is better than ncaa . i made the mistake of only playing ncaa 12 twice when i rented it waited 6 days then bought it. but then of course thats when i seen the bad oline paly . i had my LG,LT AND HB all get jazz hands on a pass play got sacked in about 1.5 seconds after the snap of the ball is was like WTF , this is what made me stop playing ncaa 12 for good. i went to pick up splinter cell hd trilogy last thursday and asked how much ncaa 12 is worht on tade in they said 15 because they have alot of copys used .i though OMG but not surprised .

I was, without a doubt, one of the most diehard Madden players in the whole world. Seriously.
I had the original Sega Genesis Madden when that came out, I literally grew up on it. But the same thing that happened to you this year happened to me last year. I didn't even bother trying to pick up Madden this year, for the first time in my ENTIRE life.
There's just no more excuses after playing 2k11-12, the year to year upgrades and improvements can be as robust as they want it to be. It's high time they start getting back on track...

Yea 2k12 is amazing I am in love with my player this year. Plus I love all the different camera angles at different arenas. Great Stuff 2k! and the presentation is amazing as well. Not to mention improved gameplay. Greatest Mode is cool too. but my player takes the cake for me. My Player blew my mind today in the few hours I played it.

The same for me. I just sold my madden 12 on amazon for 41.50 and dont feel the least bit sad about it... You ask why. Only the best sports game I have ever played came out today. It's a wrap. 2k is the new king in town and I will vote with my wallet next year if Madden doesn't step it up and deliver. One last thing. I would take a day off of work every year for maddenholiday. Not anymore. My holiday is around early October these days!

Myself and many others fell for the madden hype machine for the last time. I bought Madden12, believing that the game was fixed, and added all these great features; boy was i wrong. Madden12 lasted all of three weeks in my house, and that was a first. I felt like placing a brown paper bag over my head. written on the bag would "Another Madden SUCKER"; i should have went with my gut feeling when a bunch of the dev-team bailed on Madden before it was done; as nothing good come sfrom an incomplete project, as we all have seen for ourselves.
2K on the other hand has had it's luls over the past years, but has bounced back like a champion posessed to regain his title. 2K to me has taken over that seasonal sports game that i got to have syndrome ever year, by leaps and bounds. NBA 2K12 has set the bar really high for sports games, and i don't think madden will ever recover from being knocked off it's "Untouchable" perch! It really does pay to listen to your gaming community, and not some suit trying to pad his own pockets! EA
cheers

I can tell you I am at the same as many but for the hockey which is not as bad as madden but there just is not that many improvements in the presentation and the commentary or heck just plain flash the people at 2k are doing a phenomenal job and I am not that big of a basketball fan but something this good cannot be passed up so I have to part with some games but it is coming into my inventory very quickly!!!

Madden doesn't know how to improve friends. I bought 10 and played it for about a month and sold it on craigslist, then I played 11 at my nephews and saw that it was the same unrealistic moneyplay setup and decided not to play it. I gave up on Madden and changed over to NCAA it may not be great but I refuse to ever support Madden again at this point. On the other hand, I think it is amazing that 2K could ever even have the ambition to outdue EA in basketball. I grew playing Jordan vs Bird and Lakers vs Celtics so I was a EA fan but 2K was better from the jump 2K1 in my opinion and the gap only widen sans a couple of years at most. 2K deserves it, I just wish the lockout would work itself out because this is going to hurt sales. Without the lockout they could have easily reached 5 million again this year and they may do so after the lockout works itself out.

I really enjoyed Madden this year, played it pretty steadily for a while, then it happened. FIFA 12, then the 2K12 demo dropped, and I realized I couldn't really go back to Madden. I barely have enough time to play my 360 as it is, and I value my "game" time by playing only AAA titles. Couldn't agree more with the OP. 2K is incredible, and being a hoops head, it's almost too much basketball greatness to take!

I have not bought 2K12 yet but I did rent it today and I agree. I only played 2 of the legends games, the Dr. J one and the Bird one and was blown away by the commentary in particular. I had 2k11 but really didn't enjoy it, so throw in the fact that gameplay is alot better IMO and I am sure I will be getting it soon
