MLB The Show 17 News Post

The official website has posted some MLB The Show 17 Franchise mode and Pave Your Path RTTS details. A lot of it is stuff we already know, but we should start hearing much more about the modes soon, more specifically on March 7, 9 and 14.

With that said, another livestream on Twitch is scheduled for Thursday, going over presentation and commentary improvements.

PAVE YOUR PATH IN ROAD TO THE SHOW
  • For the first time, Road to The Show takes you beyond the walls of the stadium with Pave Your Path.
  • Take your character on an epic odyssey through the world of a professional MLB player. Control your career and write your own Hall of Fame story both on and off the field.
  • Interact with coaches, managers, representatives and more as you make off-the-field decisions that can affect your career in unpredictable ways.
  • CHOOSE WISELY. Anything is possible on the Road to The Show, but nothing is promised.
FRANCHISE MODE - MORE CONTROL, LESS TIME
  • Make your moves and plan your perfect strategy as you take control of an entire MLB franchise. Choose what tactics to employ and where. Take over Coaching, Player Development, and GM duties. Or easily have your staff auto manage them with the flick of a toggle.
FRANCHISE LAUNCH PAD PUTS YOU IN CONTROL OF HOW MUCH TIME YOU SPEND PLAYING AND HOW YOU RUN YOUR TEAM.
  • CRITICAL SITUATIONS prompts you to take the plate in late-inning, critical situations so you have a direct effect on the standings even without playing full games. You’ll also get prompted to complete statistically significant games like hitting for the cycle or no-hitters.
  • QUICK MANAGE puts you in complete control of all managerial decisions during a game, while finishing full games in a short amount of time. Jump back and forth between gameplay and Quick Manage and only play in what you decide are the most important at-bats.
  • IF YOU’D PREFER TO SHUN RESPONSIBILITY AND JUST HIT SOME HOMERS, the updated Player Lock makes it easier than ever to pick a player on your team and play short Road to The Show style games in Franchise Mode.

Stuff with your teammates would be great, we really need to know our teammates, how they feel, a better in-house system in which you live and breath baseball.

I just hope RTTS will have a lot of talking points, not all text questions, because then I'll be in trouble! Either way, sounds awesome! We've never had story in RTTS!

I don't know man, I think you may have a Metal Health issue.

Be careful, it will drive you mad!

Another thought on PYP in RttS - I wouldn't be surprised if there is no actual "story". Which is fine with me, again with the NBA 2K setup where you are playing a role for a pre-set story isn't exactly engaging to me. As long as my choices actually create different results with what I experience in my RttS careers. So if I have 3 different RttS careers going, I could have 3 noticeably different experiences with the mode.

Critical Situations sounds like a fantastic addition!

Cool additions. Really liking the sound of Critical Situations.

Well I am really excited to say the least.

This may be the first time I actually play RTTS long term since MLB The Show 11.

Really excited to see what Pave Your Path is all about. Looks like it will be a lot more immersive.

Very excited about the new options in Franchise mode to move seasons along quicker. Although I play every inning, every pitch, I can play other seasons/classic seasons/and even a new franchise concurrently with my 2 main ones at a far brisker pace.

These options are long over due and look to be game changing for hardcore franchise players!!!

Can’t wait till the next few streams (Presentation and Franchise/RTTS).

I'm hoping they bring back some of the owner mode-like features lost after MLB 12.

IF YOU’D PREFER TO SHUN RESPONSIBILITY AND JUST HIT SOME HOMERS,

NO! I prefer to take the responsibility and the challenge of competing! So I hope this Player Lock option style of play is still available!

I don't find it as boring but 2K, no thanks. I just want my player to have a choice to be a nice guy. Like the Spike league experiment - you're a smart ***, you had to have a drug dealer as your best friend, you have a discussion with your family about staying in school or getting drafted - end of the day you had no choice you went to the draft. Why even have a discussion? Just a few of the things I hate about MyCareer mode.

End of the day I hope it's not about personal life, me texting or on my cell or playing a game at my apartment. Just make it about you and your teammates.

RttS has always been my most played mode but I would love the option to edit players equipment and even edit the generated players that get introduced.

Exactly this.

Please SDS, in the name of all that is holy, never let Spike Lee anywhere near your corporate offices.

Dang, no mention of an expansion/relocation feature this year.

If that's something they are waiting for the Franchise unveiling to show us, I doubt they'd just casually leak it like this... They'd be waiting for the unveiling.

Still, I am not as optimistic as I was, say, a month ago.

Not happening this year. 99.99% certain of that.

Does this mean you can continue to play games without having to exit to the menus? If so, that will be awesome!

I hope we can set ticket prices etc and change grass patterns again. Those 2 things should have never exited the game.

If our RTTS player does have a personality I hope we can choose to be either like Pedro Cerrano, Wild Thing, Willie Mayes Hayes or Jake Taylor.

Take over Coaching, Player Development, and GM duties.

That's not necessarily a change from last year but in one video I saw missions and xp in a franchise screen.

I may be jumping to a conclusion but I would not be a fan of xp in franchise although the current progression definitely needs some work. Performance based progression is too mercurial. I guess we'll find out in a couple weeks when franchise details are released.
