Did we get an explanation as to why Staples center still isn't dark?

Here are the on the fly defensive adjustments:

Scott said these take the place of the old POE's and have a much more noticeable effect than they used to. Near the end of the stream he said we not only have these team concepts, but also the same concepts on the individual player level. I'm really interested to see what all defensive settings we have in the menus this year.

He also mentioned that they tried to make everything that ACE was doing under the hood available through menu options so we can build our own defensive strategies.

Hopefully all of this is available in scrimmage mode this year so we can really lab it out.

Edit:

I'm not sure if this has been confirmed or not yet, but we also caught a glimpse of the quick plays being available for all players instead of just being determined by ratings. Bring up the play call menu, select the player you want using the icons, and the first page will be the quick plays.

I went back and grab a lot of Scott's A.I. notes didn't touch the park, pro am or team stuff just ACE notes.

Scott Notes from Stream

1. 19m29s Brand New Switching Animations for you X's & O's heads(switching screens)

2. 20m52s Over 700 off-ball animations

3. 21m40s Transition Off/Def re-written guys getting back in tandem.New concept this year “Back Flow” getting to their assignments on the same side of the floor

4. 23m26s You can control the type of “help D” off of drives/dives

5. 26m40s Consulted with 26 NBA teams in ref. to “ACE”. Adaptive Coaching Engine now has over
6,000 adjustments which will be getting updated throughout the year.

7. 28m43s Extended Pressure option is in the game for end-user

8. 30m9s Scott's Custom Camera(WINNERS WIN) on display, which is a blend of 2Kcam and Broadcast.

9. 43m45s Player Awareness “what he can and can not see”

10. 47m07s Signature “hedges” e.g. Draymond Green and Guard to Guard Switches

11. 48m37s All new changes to PnR Def. all new concepts to if I'm back

12. 51m Help defense sliders are back

13. The Majority of “ACE” options are now available to the End-User to architect your own D

14. 55m37s “Smart Coach” asst. coach has own animations on the bench he's charting the game and will offer advice during time outs based on the flow and situation of the game.

15 56m27 Lou Will drove the Lane, KG had Randall in the corner and he provided Help D bailing on Randall because he can't shoot, Scott states if there was a better shooter KG would have more than likely stayed home.

16. 58m29s 30 total freelance offenses, formation recognition.

17. 59m33s Difficulty Matters you will not get the full experience of the A.I/ACE unless you play on SuperStar and above according to Scott. Why leave out AllStar?

18 1h11m59s Lots of offensive double team logic for spacing

19. 1h18m44s “Mismatches” in the Post, they added over a hundred new walk down animations, different off ball post ups for size mismatch

20. 1h31m4s New on Focus option “Stay Home” which means no help D and “JUNK” shows man then converts to zone

21. 1h49m20s Points of Emphasis are now ACE packages. The ACE packages are more specifically defined, they are now on the “TEAM” and “INDIVIDUAL” level

22. 1h49m45 Players will get a boost based on the coaches Rating based on his strength. So if you come fro D'antoni to Nate Mc you will get a ratings boost.

People can't be serious acting like its the end of the world that a developer blog won't come out before the game drops.

You're buying it anyway and that's not going to stop you.

I'm sure your entire videogame collection is full of purchases that were made without a developer blog. Get serious.

It's a shame what 2K threads have turned into.

Yeah, it also looks like there's a Custom difficulty now.

I guess they merged the sliders into the difficulty setting this year?
Hopefully it stays tuned to realistic FG%'s throughout the year.

I don't think you're right on this one, although what you're saying is certainly true with many new-released games. I really do feel that 2k17 has improved, although I haven't personally played it yet. The game just looks different from 2k16 and that's not based on the fact that this is the latest installation of the game.

Or perhaps that is exactly how they feel. Maybe you are just being negative for the sake of it, I don't know that for sure so it wouldn't be prudent of me to accuse of that outright.

Its only my opinion but I think you should stop guessing how people think and feel.

The game does look amazing though.

Makes zero sense from a marketing perspective. When everyone complained about a lack of news they always said "we do this every year." Waiting tell after release is definitely not the norm so they bs'd us on that.

I'm reminded of what happened to Commodore, the computer company.

They released the very best computers for their time, including the best-selling computer model of all time, the Commodore 64.

Their last model, the Amiga, was quite far ahead of what PCs and Macs could do at the time...and few people in the US bought it, because by then, their marketing department was complete trash.

Complete trash in the US, that is.

Australia was a different story...

Or maybe I just needed an excuse to spread that super-catchy jingle. Who knows.

Anyway, my game's downloading now! HYPE!

Everyone's praising the good things, which are many, and nobody saying there was a lot of discouraging stuff from this stream.
I might appear as the negative type, but I just can't unsee what I didn't like:
- just let OG and Czar play instead of those two bofoons. That's the way we could get REAL insights from a gameplay standpoint.
- Staples Center audience in full light. So much for the arena authenticity they so much boasted.
- the AI coach subbing in Minnesota's starting lineup with less than a minute in the 4th while being up by 20+.
- animations aren't that improved TBH. During the Raptors-Pacers game, Al freaking Jefferson had 2 steps PLUS a 2-step gather basically going from the free throw line to a dunk.
- Cory Joseph standing out of bounds causing a turnover when the ball got
passed to him....
- Ronnie throwing the ball off the back of the backboard during an after the basket inbound from the baseline.

Basically I saw much of the same of 2k16.

Ummm... No. I'm a very objective person when it comes to games I enjoy, and I always err on the side of caution/negativity.

However, this gameplay showed animations and movement that FLOWED and didn't look like a VIDEO GAME, it looked smooth and realistic.

I've played countless hours of NBA 2K and I never saw animations and movement like NBA 2k17 shows. I would always notice obvious hitches when an animation would be triggered in previous games, and it always felt like I was just moving from one animation to another to another. 2k17 looks like it has removed these hitches and drastic changes in movement, instead providing subtle animation triggers and transitions.

I like it. That does NOT mean I think the game will play perfectly. Hell, I'm a slider guru, and I know I'll have a LOT of tweaking to do to get it to play as realistic as it LOOKS.

So hard to judge 2K games before release because most people just don't know how to play.

# 114 GudStuffzz @ 09/14/16 03:46 AM
Game looks much smoother and fluid but there are some concerns to me. At times it seems a little ice skateish if that make sense. like there are some times where players seem to just slide & glide around the court. And that out of bounds force field is still there. Other than that and some weird animations and floaty passes here and there the game looks good. It's a shame that crowd audio seems unchanged though, it really does help with the immersion factor.

I'm wondering if you actually watched the full stream or if you played basketball in real life. Because calling it "smooth and realistic" seems like a bit of a stretch to me. Scroll up a bit to read a list of just SOME of the things that should never happen in a realistic game that I saw in this stream.
Granted there were A LOT of good things and improvements, but please let's not collectively pretend that suddenly this game is perfect.

# 116 Staffan54 @ 09/14/16 05:32 AM
Yes, they have added a lot of things.

For me it was most important so see if they got rid of the 2 problems that I can not accept.

1, skating/sliding still there

2, physics. The ball can still go right through a players body which makes it uninteresting to play good positional defense. An example at 2.35 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ladhW0v580

So for me it is unplayable.

This. A good player making efforts to make the player movements natural and the ball movement realistic could make the game look like a real one.

Who was acting like it was the end of the world?

Several people said they were disappointed because they were looking forward to seeing Czar and Scott go in depth about the new features that they worked on all year but no one was acting like it was the end of the world. That's ridiculous.
