Critically acclaimed franchise to give fans early start to this year’s MyCAREER experience, ability to play collegiate games and more!

2K today announced “The Prelude,” a free downloadable experience for NBA 2K17, the top-rated and top-selling NBA video game simulation series*, which will be available on September 9, 2016. For the first time in NBA 2K history, gamers – both new and old – will get to start their MyCAREER experience prior to the game’s launch on September 20, 2016 on Xbox One and PlayStation®4 computer entertainment systems. Gamers who download “The Prelude” will choose from multiple authentic Division I collegiate programs and have the ability to boost their stock for the NBA Draft. Additionally, “The Prelude” experience will include enhanced MyPlayer personalization through new mobile phone face scan technology via the MyNBA2K Companion App, and an all–new tutorial mode in 2KU, featuring 2016 USA Basketball Coach Mike Krzyzewski (“Coach K”).

“The Prelude was designed specifically to introduce new fans to our franchise, and give them an introduction to our legendary MyCAREER mode that puts the user at the center of an epic basketball story,” said Greg Thomas, President of Visual Concepts. “Veterans of NBA 2K will also love getting a head start on their MyCAREER, so when the game launches they can be ready to jump in and compete.”

During “The Prelude”, players will watch their draft stock fluctuate dynamically based on their performance across the participation of multiple authentic college games. In true cinematic form, they’ll also catch a glimpse of exclusive MyCAREER scenes through their customized avatar, which include interactions with high school coaches, teammates, and more. Players’ in-game performance during college play will ultimately influence where they are drafted upon entering the league in NBA 2K17.

“The incredible excitement during the first week of NBA 2K16’s launch showed us there was an opportunity to connect with even more fans prior to the formal release of NBA 2K17,” said Alfie Brody, VP of Marketing for NBA 2K. “We think we’ve given our passionate community something special with this year, and can’t wait to see the response from not only existing fans, but new ones as well.”

Included in “The Prelude” is 2KU, a tutorial featuring Coach K, focused on fundamental basketball strategies including pick and roll execution, proper defensive positioning, ball movement, boxing out, court awareness and more. Gamers can also use the MyNBA2K17 iOS and Android companion app to scan their facial likeness into their MyCAREER avatar within minutes. This new mobile phone camera fan scan technology serves as the perfect introduction to the custom experience, as players begin playing MyCAREER. Additionally, after September 16, 2016 gamers will be able to purchase and download playable “all-time great” teams for each of the playable colleges as well as special collegiate MyTeam cards representing legendary players.

The NBA 2K17 Standard Edition will be available in both digital and physical formats for $59.99 on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment systems, and Windows PC platforms on September 20. The NBA 2K17 Kobe Bryant Legend Edition will be available in digital and physical formats for $79.99 on Xbox One and PlayStation®4 system. Also available for pre-order is the NBA 2K17 Kobe Bryant Legend Edition Gold offering fans the ultimate value at $99.99 with all of the regular NBA 2K17 Legend Edition contents plus bonus items. All fans who pre-order any version of NBA 2K17 will receive their copy at Early Tip-Off four days early, September 16.

No more bundle attributes.......that is the best thing ever. No we can actually have different player styles for real for some distinction

Typically don't touch my Career at all, but absolutely will for all of this. Would love some clarification as to....

How many schools there are?

How many games we get to play in college?

Is there an NCAA tournament?

Will there be an Olympics mode?

If so how many Country's teams will be available?

Will those national teams be available for play now exhibition games?

Will the 1992 USA Team be the only classic USA team or will there be more available such as the 2008 or 2012 USA teams?

Will there be classic national teams for other countries?

With the All time classic college teams, will we be getting Magic Johnsons Michigan State team or Iverson's Georgetown team etc?

Will there be more than one classic college team per college? (Ewing's Hoyas and Iverson's Hoyas)

Will the all time classic college teams be available in the regular copy of NBA 2K17 and for use in play now Exhibition?

Will we be able to edit the National teams and classic college teams?

Now I have to make my hard decision... Pass First PG or Athletic Freak SF

Looks like the agent is Matt Walsh

Too bad the CAP looks to be the same....looking forward to finally creating a pure defensive center!

Love this, the archetypes is my favorite part of it all. I love being able to model my player after someone and I'm guessing those who pick someone like Lebron or Curry will more than likely have to work to get them there given how good they would be whereas a specialist would get to their role faster. Just absolutely a breath of fresh air to everyone having similar skills.

Being able to play early and experience this? Just icing on the cake. I'm hopeful that it's not just limited to one and done experience and that you can start multiple careers since I love playing PG for careers but also have to work on a C for Pro-Am/Park.

New attribute speed with ball.

They also brought back shot off dribble as opposed to moving shots. Hopefully that means dribble pullups wont have so big of a shot penalty if the rating is high. Someone with a high moving shot rating would get b minus shot grade on wide open pull ups.

I kinda thought all time college teams meant teams of all time greats who went to that school... Like MSU would have Magic, Steve Smith, Jason Richardson, Draymond, etc.

Disappointed as hell this isn't on PC.

Also disappointed we're apparently once again stuck with a railroaded MyCareer story, and a character referred to only by his nickname in spoken dialogue, with no way to opt out of the story and just play a freeform career mode.

But at least we get attribute buckets spread out further, from six to ten. I'd still rather have the ability to raise stats individually, but this is a step forward.

Now which one governs free throws? I don't wanna shoot the three!

For the record, the I in the trailer is for Illinois, not Indiana. Unfortunately it doesn't look like IU is licensed.

im all the way hype now!!

the only thing that concerns is "different body types". i didnt see anything like what we were looking for but im hoping theyre still trolling us for that and its in game

i am hyped for different playstyles!! ofcourse a few are going to be overused as the meta but its always fun to find different builds ppl arent using

Are they really trying to force me to buy a console?

Did anyone else notice that we are going to have 150 upgrade slots opposed to 100 in 16'. 50% increase. Making it rain them VC transactions...

I'm strictly an online with real teams player. Never really been interested in Myplayer. I may dabble in the park here and there, but very little.

I don't play Myplayer either but I just view this as a demo. Very welcomed.

I doubt they're trying to force you to buy a console, but it's all about sales -- PC gamers make up a very small portion of 2K's sales I'd imagine, especially since the Xbox One and PS4 are, essentially, low-to-mid tier PC gaming rigs.

I kinda understand why the PC guys got left out of this -- one would think that if they can make the Prelude and Facescan stuff tie into the Xbox One version of the game, they can make it tie into the PC version (since the majority of PC gamers run Windows and the Xbox is made by Microsoft) but I imagine it has something to do with the absolute insane amounts of software/driver/graphic cards combinations a PC rig could have ... it would be difficult to account for all that. I don't blame them too much for taking a pass on it.
