Madden NFL 17 News Post

Madden 17 begins with an authoritative stamp: You’re thrown in Memorial Stadium, right in the thick of a NFC playoff game against the Washington Redskins. The crowd is ferocious, the commentary is well timed and filled with chemistry, and everything that is happening on the field has a manic pace to it. Before you know it, your heart is beating in the same way every sports fan has felt as the clock winds down.

Fortunately, just about everything that makes Madden 17’s intro so great carries itself over to the base game. All at once, Madden boasts improved presentation, feel and gameplay. From the moment the game kicks into gear, a sense of overwhelming confidence on the part of EA Tiburon sets in. Madden 17 may be the best football game put out by the studio this generation.

EA Access is the closest you're going to get to a pre-release demo, for better or worse.

The best reviewer is yourself if you trust them.

This Madden seems to be getting good scores around the net, so, I don't see where OS is different vs "all the other sites."
As a side note, we're not striving to be in the aggregate, or even thinking about it. I get frustrated when people call out an outlet for having a score that's high or low based on the aggregate because why is that a negative in a vacuum? These are singular opinions, variance should be a thing. I get agreeing or disagreeing with a review, but if one outlet gave the game a 6 and seven others gave it an 8, it doesn't mean the 6 score is inherently wrong or crazy.

Some people just don't like Madden no matter what, and that's fine. Others defend Madden no matter what, and that's fine. But like with every opinion, it's a single opinion and if you want to get hung up on outlier scores you'll be miserable -- especially if you don't factor in what was actually said.

this is what i want to know, before I buy. no mention of improved penalty calls leading up to the game or in the review.

I love the site, don't get me wrong. Maybe it's just me but it seems like all major sports games here get a 7.5 or higher. Honestly I haven't liked a copy of Madden in a number of years, but buy it because it's football. I almost wish someone would have said "it's the same garbage you hated last year" the last ten years, but being honest I know that and I buy it anyway.

Why in the world don't RB's push off of the O-linemen when running into them? How many years are they going to let go by before they address this? I'm sorry to sound negative but if baffles my mind how some of these glaring issues aren't fixed by now. I hate to bring it up but 2K5 had RB's pushing off lineman over a decade ago & you mean to tell me Madden has yet to figure this out? The sad part is Madden actually has a push off mechanic in the game but it doesn't trigger when it should smh. I love to run the ball & this is one aspect that I can't stand about Madden along with players just falling down on phantom contact. This type of stuff should not still be happening in 2016.

Yeah based on that demographic the number of penalties called in head to head isn't going to change anytime soon.

Total shame - head to head being a separate arcade mode needs to change. A certain basketball title doesn't do this - why does Madden.

After watching gameplay I can't see this game as a 8.5.

GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot believe how H O R R I B L E this game is....... My FAVORITE aspect of a Football game is the running game, never in my life have I seen such poor line blocking and disgusting suction blocking and warp tackling.

This about a game like NFL2k where you have PROPER line blocking and when running through cuts your ball carrier will get "skinny" and push off of lineman. In Madden you press a button but it does;t really work and you're constantly running into the back of your lineman.

Also let say on a pitch play your receiver will just run up the field after engaged with a cb, like honestly this is like the worst AI I've seen. Then when you finally do break a long run it makes no sense......

Every year I try to give Madden a chance and they never fix the horrible blocking, running game and just overall gameplay. It's a ZOO out there.........

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE NFL allow other developers to have a chance at the license again. Madden imo is a HORRIBLE video game.... I played like 3 games and deleted off of my Xbox One.

Also the commentary is poor.....

The only thing I can think is the graphics look nice, but everything else imho doesn't work at all. I would even go so far as saying that the game is BROKEN. On a SWEEp play imagine having to blocker for you and they both run right past a defender...... I mean it's like WTF........

End Rant

Despite gap assignments, contain is almost non-existant. One of the hardest things to do in the NFL is to take the corner. I'm seeing this happen regularly in vids I'm watching. Stretches & tosses still look like the go to run play. And QBs still escape the pocket too easily. When there is contain, it's only because the d-linemen or OLB disengaged. They can't maintain outside leverage while engaged. Very binary.

Despite the emphasis on special teams, still no gunner interaction. In the NFL, those guys try to engage the gunner asap and keep him from getting up field. In Madden, blocker(s) turn, run and set up blocks near the returner.

More special teams, the o-line on field goals are still pass blocking instead of the bend don't break style used in the NFL. I'm sure there's some things I won't notice in a vid, but the only special teams improvements I see are a new kick meter and designated punt/FG blockers.

Footwork is still poor. Still no tiered defensive play calling. A lot of stiff animations that standout against the newer ones. Defensive matchups? No huddle / hurry offense differentiation, and players still get to the LOS too fast. No short yardage blocking animations. No special teams depth chart? No SOLB/WOLB or SS/FS alignment. I'm going to stop before I turn this into my wishlist.

Not the reviewer but I've played 5 hours of my EA Access trial so far and I don't think I've seen one penalty called other than maybe a false start.
