EA Sports today announced a new ratings hub for Madden NFL 17.

This hub will come complete with a completely searchable and sortable database of every player in the game, updated in real time and dynamically with in-game roster updates.

Also, EA pulled back the curtain on how overall ratings for players in Madden NFL are calculated. Check those out in the chart below:

I wish pass blocking had a 2% impact on HB rating

People will still go crazy, but this chart shows why folks shouldn't grip so hard about OVR. A player can be poor in a couple of areas, and that will cause him to possibly be like 3-4 points lower than another player in OVR, but he will still ball out if you use him correctly.

Where it says... "And if you’re ever interested in how we calculate a player’s Overall (OVR) rating, check out the grid below."

Can anyone access that image? It's very tiny for me here at work (everything else on the page was fine), and I can't click on it or anything.

This also makes for a great cheat sheet when adding xp in franchise...

id still like an excel dump

that ratings thing doesnt allow search by age/catch/years as pro for example, and if they dont improve the interface from m16 finding trade targets or ps members goona be painful

Anyone who wants to go through and compare this new weighting chart (the one on the OP's post) to the old one (below) gets extra credit:

Man it would be aobcool to be able to adjust these in game. We sort of have where schemes can affect ratings. But if I want throw power to be 100% of my overall for qbs then I should be able to set it. Would be super useful in free agency rather than having to scroll through and look at every rating for every player to find guys I want to sign and trade for.

The era of the "ratings guru" seems to finally be coming to an end, mercifully.

I'm comparing and contrasting asap.
This has me thinking POSITION CHANGES!
Yep, if say a DB has high ratings in a few of these areas.
AWR, SPD, CTH, or RTR.
Scouting/Drafting becomes even more interesting!

Brings up an interesting question....does coach scheme already affect those percentages (even as simply a modifier)?

It's important in a way. Based on the chart, RT overall is weighed more heavily for RBK than PBK (vice versa for LT). What if I have a lefty QB?

Yeah, it adjusts those weights based on what the scheme is that you have set. That's the only way it could work, I believe.

It's probably best to think of that chart as it relates to exhibition/out-of-season rosters, that aren't affected by the schemes. That's how I thought of the old chart. And then I just applied my franchise scheme to that to get a vague idea of how much the weights would change (not really any way to know the exact numbers unless they tell us the scheme formulas, of course)

This is all very nice, but how about the schemes in CFM?

Would be cool to know how a Cover2 MLB is different from a 3-4 Tackler MLB. I guess it would be too much to ask for...

Anyways, I love the transparency!!

Anyone know how I can make the ratings info spreadsheet larger so I can print it?

# 16 Ueauvan @ 08/06/16 05:35 AM
my preferred skills are not in one scheme

different teams rate rookies and fas differently depending on their needs, priorities, schemes, likes etc.

i want my safeties to have high zcv, ok mcv, better than average prc/pur, fair speed and mcv, and fair tackle

dont think any scheme has that for a safety, why cant i make one?

Shouldn't the percentages add up to 100%? QB only adds up to 87, unless I'm misinterpreting something

That's weird. Lol. Surely the equation used strength for QBs. That rating isn't included in the equation. Or pass blocking for the RB. Something's off for sure

Exactly! That's what I've tried explaining to people over and over again! The player's overall doesn't really matter. What is most important is that their key positional attributes are good!
